I think I need medical attention!!
Take your kids fishing and teach them a skill, hobby, and obsession that will keep them occupied and out of trouble for the rest of thier lives. Your wife will think your a genius and you can say you did it all for the kids. And someday, maybe, your kids will thank you. Remember there are a lot of addictions worse than fishing.......

The end of Hooker Bait and Tackle
I hear ya...I read on another thread that Everglades Pro Bass down here is shutting down (Griffin and University). Every time I go to Bass Pro Shops, I make a point of going there first. Unfortunately, it's hard for them to compete with that monster BPS store right down the street. Last week I went to Everglades Pro Bass and bought some stuff...my credit card strip wasn't working on her machine. She bagged the items up and said "next time you come in you owe me $21". I went to the ATM at lunch, went in and bought another $30 worth of stuff for the bait monkey... Like to know if that's true.... I thought bad economies were the best time to start a small business??? That's what our government would have us think

New to fishing please help
Murky water + weeds= Weightless Senko rigged weedless. Cast along the edge of the weeds and let it sink. Then slowly twitch it back. That's all you need to know, for now...

Got Skunked
I believe in the post RW says if you fish several times to no avail, you need to find new water, you may want to take his advice. If you were to give more information about where you are fishing (like location, water clarity, type of vegetation, etc), more helpful information would come your way. You are geting hundreds, if not thousands, of years worth of experienced advice from this site. Don't give up, once you "get it" things will change. Good luck my friend...

Jig vs. Plastic
A lot of people say most hits happen on the fall with a jig, personally I don't find that to hold true. Most of my jig bites happen while working it along the bottom. I'd have to agree with above sentiments though, some days one works better than the other, and you won't know which til you try.

Need some advice
Since both of those baits are worked on a slack line, you don't have much of a choice than to watch the line. That's the way I've always done it... Braid should be providing you with the most sensitive "feel". Don't know much about that rod/reel set-up, but it sounds like you have exceptional equipment. Just gotta get the hang of it. Good Luck!

Yesterday I was called a wuss ,wimp bass fisherman-
To be honest I never met a bass fisherman that wasn't a wuss, bass fishing is fun if you don't have anything better to do. You did well to land the fish, most couldn't because they don't know how to, you can't drag a pelagic species like you do a bass. I'll take saltwater any day of the week. That's funny I find the same holds true when I go out bass fishing with a saltwater angler. After 30 minutes of casting they start complaining.. all they wanna do is troll aimlessly around with a beer in thier hand. Same sport, different worlds...

What is Happening?
I've had this happen before. If you inspect the tail of your worm you may find bite marks at the end, or even halfway up. This tells me that it was probably small fish grabbing the tail and running with it. Seting the hook is useless in this case, because the hook is not in the mouth. Of course I have no way of verifying this but it's the only thing that makes sense to me........ I know I have had small LM hold on all the way to the boat before releasing too.

alligator alley
Everything I wrote above was verified today. Fished for a few hours (9:30-12:30) today at MM35 with same results. I caught 6 in this time. 4 came from deeper water and all came in between 1lb-2.5lbs. Threw a senko fo 15 minutes and caught 2 dinks, put it back in the box and went back to deeper water. Pray you have clouds, wind, rain, or all of the above. Today was sunny with no wind. It was hot as heck and the laziest, slowest bite I've seen all year.

Deep South FL fishing. Dade/ Broward County
Hello to all my fellow South Florida fisherman. I am wondering how fishing has been for everybody in the deep south. For me, the bite has slowed down over the last month, however it is still there. I do 99.9% of my fishing in the everglades(Broward County area). At this point a normal day of fishing for me (6am-12noon) will produce 10-20 fish. Most range from 1lb-3lb and that seems to be the norm for me. My biggest this year was 4.5lb. I'm dying to break that 5lb mark and I know they are down here because I've seen pics posted by local members (like Capt Shane) that verify it. I would like to know how you guys are doing, average size, biggest this year, and where you are fishing. Peace guys and if anyone is up for some glades fishing let me know.............

The Show "Lost Lake" a Fraud?
This goes way past the "norm". The premise of the show is not watch the host catch tons of fish on the baits that he is paid to fish. The premise is watch the host/guest angler go through the process of breaking down a body of water that he's never been on. I'd call it a fraud and never watch it again. I watched a few "Day on the Lake" episodes where the anglers were launching their boats on the "lake" without a ramp (barely even a dirt area to launch). I agree with Tyrius, we've all been there, first time on a lake and you're going through a multi-step process to determine where to fish. I would much rather observe an angler going through this process than watching him haul in fish after fish in an area that he already knows produces. If you watch the show, Dave "finds" a real small sweet spot and starts ripping in 4 to 5 pound smallmouth like nothing. Lake Chautauqua in not a huge lake (just over 13,000 surface acres), but it is not a lake you could expect to find these sweet spots that easily, especially in a half of day. I agree with you guys that it's a load of crap trust me. For anglers like us, we would rather you "teach" us how to fish and find patterns on new waters, rather than just watch you reel in fish for 30 min and show us your brand new flashy lure in between. However I have heard so many rumors about so many bass fishing shows, at this point I take everything at face value, and that ain't much. So many shows you will see guys reeling in fish, but you don't see the cast or the hookset, why??? I've learned more about bass fishing from this site than any tv show. Why is that? Becuase I am not being sold anything and real people aren't afraid to say "hey fishing was tough today". People on here don't have there reputations to worry about becuase they don't lose money when they have a bad day. And the advertisers on here with good product don't have to promote thier product because we do it for them.

Oh I guess I misunderstood you above I thought you were talking about a +6lb bass above.... :-?

alligator alley
Hey Tommy, I take it your fishing that tourny you inquired about a while back. The bite has slowed way down out there over the past few months. A combination of higher water, more traffic due to good fishing reports, and high heat have made geting a bite much tougher. The fish are there, however different tactics are working now than last time you asked. The fish have gone deep, and they have a very lazy non-aggressive bite. What does that mean? Fish slow, fish deep. Large T-rigged worms are the ticket, along with jig n' craw. Or you can beat the banks all day with a senko and pull in dinks, I'll leave that up to you. If you fish deeper then here's the tip of the day: look for the drop off usually 8-12ft away from the edge of the lily pads. I have pulled a lot of fish off that drop off while most guys have thier boat right over it casting into the pads all day. Good luck PM me if I can offer you any other help.
