Fellas What makes a "trick worm" different than the hundreds of others? How do you guys fish them...wacky? They seem awfull thin to T rig 'em Thanks Mike
  4. Thanks for the reply's I can bend the tip down a lot less than 1/3 of the way down. Other rods I have if I shake them I can see the tip move. Fast rods a little, med a little more, but this one doesn't move at all! Thats why I thought it was x fast. Thanks for the line and usage. Any thoughts about what to rig a reel with and how to use the Med light? Mike
  5. Fellas: I was given a Johhny Morris 6' 6" Signature Series bait cating rod model #JX66MT. It says 1/4-5/8 wgt and 8-17 lb. 2 questions if I may... 1] It doesn't say any where on the rod what the action is, but it is VERY stiff so I assume it is x fast, would that model # indicate it is? 2] What weight and type of line would you rig your reel with and what type of fishing would you use it for? Also... I have a 7' 6" Shackspere Titanium med light rod. 8-17 line Same questions... What wgt and type of line and what would you use it for. Thanks Mike
  6. How about the Johnson Century! Some of you "old guy's" may remember it Mike

OK thanks, I guess what you all are saying is that they are better than the straight shank but only to keep the bait from moving down, but hookup's are worse unless we bend the point up. Thanks for all the reply's Mike

HiYa Quick question if I may... When and why do you guy's and gals use a wide gap hook over a straight shank offset one for soft plastics? And if you do what size's do you use? Thanks Mike
  11. My wife bought me a Shimano spinning rod that has no inserts in the guides. The guides are rounded and smooth but bare metal. Mike
  12. I agree the binder lets the bait lay flat and the bag folds taking up a lot less room. The only problem I have is that the bags tend to rip at the oppisite side of the zip opening. Mike

Gents... Under what conditions, type of presentations, or with what kind of plastic do you feel it is better to peg the weight on a T- rig [Florida style] as opposed to letting it slide? Thanks Mike
  15. Thanks fella's for your advise. I do plan on learning to use a baitcaster very soon, I guess at this point its just a confidence thing. I just wanted to make sure that I match what I have now correctly...rod, line etc. the best way I can to maximse my chances to be successful, and I guess not to embaress myself. Rat l Trapper...I do have a 7'6" med/light rod that I'll use now for cranks, thanks for the tip. Mike
  16. Guy's Please give me your advise about how to mate the equipment I have to cover as many applications as I can. I just joined my first Bass club (at 60 yrs old!) as a co-angler after thinking about it for years. If the concensus is to dump everything and start over then that is what i'll do. This is what I have now, do you agree or should I mix it up, change the line type, wgt ?? 1) 6'6" Med Heavy rod, size 30 spinning reel with 12 lb P-Line co poly for worm, jigs, tubes etc in cover. 2) 6'6" Med Heavy rod, size 30 spinning reel with 20 lb braid for top water frogs, spooks etc. 3) 7'0" Med Action/fast tip rod, size 30 spinning reel with 20 lb braid for ?? 4) 7'0" Med Action rod, size 40 spinning reel with 10 lb Vanish Floro for spinners, crank baits, carolina rigs. I know I should learn how to use a baitcating reel but I just got up the nerve to join a club in my old age...All things in thier own time :} So what do you think? Am I ok the way it is, should a reel with one line be changed to another rod and used a different way?? I know I'm very new to this board, but I'd appreacite it VERY much for any advise you can give me. Thanks Mike
  17. Where do you guys get this stuff? I tried a few local shops and they don't carry it Thanks Mike
  18. Guy's Useing a bullet weight when you're useing soft plastics as opposed to freelining tubes, worms, crawfish etc. changes the action and presentation so much (a nose dive vertcal fall and jigging type of cast instead of a sloooow horizontal fall) I was wondering..other than for casting distance what do you guy's prefer? I read some where that a lot of the pro's DON'T peg a bullet weight to the end of the line and jig it, they use a barrel weight and let let it slide. Thanks Mike
  19. Thanks Fellas
  20. Hello folks, I've been lurking around for a while since I found this site and decieded to ask a question if I may... I've been Bass fishing for many many years and I've used mostly mono line because thats all there was. Now we have florocarbon and braid which has it's use's and which I still do. Now there is "copolymer" I'd like to ask... What is this stuff??? When do you use it? For what type of lures? What knots work best? Is it closer to Mono, Braid, Floro or is it totally different? Does it float, sink or just kinda hang there?:} Any info you can give me about it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike
