  4. In my opinion lead from fishing tackle is most likely not having any significant impact on the environment.
  5. Sweet boat. I just picked up a used Sea Eagle SE8, basically the little brother to your boat. I absolutely love it and it fits easily in the trunk of my car.
  6. I work on computers for a living, and virus prevention/removal is a big part of my job. You don't need to pay for AV software, AVG Free is as good or better than the stuff you have to buy. In my experience having Norton software on your system is as bad as having a virus it hogs resources so much. Absolutely DO NOT run more than one active AV program. One AV will think the other is a virus and vice versa. They ultimately will bring your pc to a crawl. As far as Linux, if you are willing to go through learning it (and it isn't hard at all), you pretty much will never have to run AV software at all. Also it is free, and software for it is free. The one downside is some Windows apps won't run well on it, particularly games. If you are a PC gamer, Linux is not for you. If you don't game on your pc, you will be able to do everything you can do with Windows on a Linux system, and in a lot of cases do it better. I currently have a dual boot system, I boot to WIndows 7 for gaming, and boot to Ubuntu for everything else. I haven't had to clean a virus for myself in years. Good luck!
  7. I have never used a buzzbait, but I found your pictures and instructions to be easy to understand
  8. Just picked this up used for cheap. I am on the water baby!
  9. You know it is really quite remarkable how good this forum is. I have never been on any other forum that comes close to the civility and goodwill of this forum. Couple that with the wealth of useful knowledge and you have something truly rare and unique.
  10. a little rural town in Cumberland county called Greenwich.
  11. The small town i grew up in was a commercial seaport preceding the revolutionary war. After the boston tea party, some local revolutionaries got together and dressed as indians and raided the seaport. Instead of throwing the tea in the water, they piled it up in the town square and burned it. On the street i grew up on the house still stands where the guys met before going into town to burn the tea
  12. I have owned the Ibanez above for a couple of years. Plays really well, has active electronics, and both "j" and "p" pickups. Very affordable and I can get anywhere from a mellow jazz tone to a punchy high end punk tone with it.
  13. It's bad everywhere. There is a lake at a state park that I fish, and last time I was there pretty much every good spot to fish from the bank had an empty nightcrawler container or beer can. Most within ten feet of a trash can. Some people just don't get it.
  14. When I set the hook, I basically give a hard jerk to 12 o'clock with the rod, and I have been trying to use alot of wrist action.
  15. Well i got aout to the lake early yesterday morning to give the new setup a try. Even being as inexperienced as I am I could tell the difference over the $20 wallyworld combo I started with, it was like night and day. The reel in particular was ALOT easier too cast with. I fished 5" senkos for about 3 hours, had what I think were bites but couldn't get a hookup . I assume they were bites because after i tried to hookup and reeled back in, the worm was slid all the way down the hook ( i was rigged weightless on a 3/0 EWG offset hook). A guy fishing next to me said that usually means you ripped it out of a fish's mouth.
  16. I'm a newbie to fishing, but know quite alot about sound, and imo on a boat you will be ok as long as you keep the bass turned down. If you installed big subwoofers it would probably be an issue, since the low frequencies would pass through the boat to the water. I have heard it said you should step lightly not to spook fish, both on a boat and shore, so it's basically the same concept. and everyone knows the big bass prefer the blues! ;D
  17. Thanks for the feedback. I can't wait to get out this weekend to put it to the test.
  18. Hi all. I just got into bass fishing this summer, and the following is what I just purchased to be my all-around rod and reel combo. 6'6'' St. Croix Triumph MF Shimano Sienna 4000FD spooled with 10# Trilene XL I am planning on fishing 5" senkos t-rigged weightless or wacky with it. I was wondering what are some lure types/sizes that would work well with this setup, and also if there are some lures that would be terrible with this setup. I am not opposed to switching out the line if need be. btw I fish primarily from the banks, as I don't own a boat of any kind. Thanks in advance!
  19. My grandfather started taking me out flounder fishing with minnows when i was around 3 years old. We did that every summer until he passed on when I was 11. I then gave up fishing until this summer when I decided to give bass fishing a try. I thoroughly enjoy it, even though I have only caught 3 fish so far. I really wish I had stuck with it after my grandfather passed. I am finding fishing to be almost therapeutic. So I guess I have been fishing for about 8 years and a couple of months, with one hell of a sabbatical!
  20. Thanks, I wasn't sure if it should even be done at all. Now off to practice a blood knot!
  21. Newbie question here: Is it ok to connect some line onto a spinning reel that already has some on it? If so, what knot should I use to connect the new line to the exisiting line. The line in question is 10# mono. Tahnks in advance
  22. Thx for the welcomes, and I would like to report I caught my first largemouth bass yeseterday. He was just under 12 inches. I think i may have a new addiction!
  23. Hi all. I'm from South Jersey about 45 minutes from Philadelphia. I am a complete newbie to bass fishing and hope to learn the tricks to becoming a successful bass fisherman. My previous fishing experience was when i was from about age 3 to 10 and my grandpop would take me flounder fishing inshore.
