  1. I cast with both. I found that when I was learning to use baitcasters my right hand was used to a spinning rod and so I didn't have the correct technique. I tried my left, which had never cast anything before. It helps when I am on the bank so I can cast paralell to the shore in both directions. There are a few times I have been on a boat, fishing from the back and it really helped to cast with my left hand.
  2. I will check to see if that spacer is there. So is this pawl cap something that goes out of adjustment frequently, or only when it gets disturbed?
  3. I thought you were supposed to wait to feel the weight of the fish so you didn't pull it away from them too soon. Or is that just for poppers?
  4. Shimano Curado 301 DSV.
  5. I am not good at fishing buzzbaits and need some help. How do you know when to set the hook?
  6. I bought a citica from them and it was $99 shipped. They had excellent service. I would order from them again.
  7. I got a nasty backlash today, and while I was trying to pick it out and the line (20#braid) got tangled in the worm gear/level wind. I managed to get it out but then the level wind wasnt' moving. When I got home I took the spool out and tried turning that little screw on the level wind. That seemed to fix it, I think. My question is did I really fix it and what is purpose of that screw? If anyone who works on baitcasters could shed some light on the subject I would greatly appreciate it.
  8. This year I am trying braid. I am using it on all of my setups and I don't bother with a leader since I almost never fish in anything other than dirty water. I am finding that it works well for everything with a few exceptions. It isn't very abrasion resistent when fishing rip rap. The bullet weight on t-rigs wears out the line quickly. Fishing with a buzz bait gets messy if you set the hook and miss the fish: the line gets all tangled in the lure. I used it on an ultralight and caught a bigger fish than I intended and the zero stretch and big fish bent the hook and I lost the fish. That being said, it is all worth it for the sensitivty and strength/diameter ratio. I used 10# Power Pro on spinning and 20# Power Pro on baitcasters.
  9. Last summer I tried some old deer meat, beef liver, beef heart. Just stuff that had been in the freezer for awhile. Didn't work well at all. I even tried putting stinkbait in with the meat as well. Didn't work either. I caught more catfish by accident on bass lures last year than I did on purpose. LOL.
  10. I have wondered this myself, but on a much smaller scale. I fish a small farm pond, maybe a couple of acres at the most. There are some really nice bass in there, as well as the usual catfish and sunfish. I usually go there on the weekends, and there might be one or two other people that fish it on occasion. Sometimes I worry about the fish getting too used to me.
  11. I would say shooting is a good description. The bait already has momentum when it leave the rod and it goes much further with less effort from the cast itself. It also has less of an arc and direct forward motion that would be great for shooting under low hanging trees.
  12. That looks like what I was seeing on the KVD video. It is hard to tell though because it happens so fast. You can see something different happening on the cast, but it is not clear what. J Francho, can you describe what you are doing?
  13. I get what you are saying. I was trying an underhand spin, I don't know if I would want to do it the other way.
  14. I agree. The warnings on tv have improved, the narrow it down to the path of the storm. The sirens still sound in the whole county. Lately they have started sounding the sirens even if there is strong straight line winds. I think people are going to get used to the siren not meaning anything. Not good.
  15. I was watching KVD's "Pitchin' to Heavey Hitters" video and in addition to pitchin' and flippin' he discusses a third cast. Before casting he whips the bait around the tip once. I started trying it out today and it is pretty cool. Whipping it around like that really adds a lot of momentum and it goes really far, on a low trajectory (sp??) with just a little snap of the wrist. Pretty cool.
  16. I usually take one or two rods, which vary upon where and what I am fishing for. I have a small soft sided tackle bag I leave in my car for spontaneous stops, or if I have to walk to fish. If I don't have to walk far to the water I bring my big tackle bag and more rods. How many rods I bring also depends on how much time I have to fish, and if there is a safe place to put them when I am not using them.
  17. Someone gave me one of those and it had no skirt so I took a spinnerbait skirt and glued it on and it works great.
  18. I tried it myself and ended up burning the wrapping at the tip. I would find a local tackle shop that might do it. There used to be a place in my city that did it for a few bucks.
  19. Just to let you guys know, I was trying out a combo I intend to use for crappie fishing and didn't expect to catch a big bass. I am not sure what brand of hook/jig it was. I bought it in a local tackle store and it was packaged in a small ziplok bag with no label. I was using braid, I like it for it's sensitivity and it's strength/size relationship. So, what should I do if I ever catch a big fish on that little combo? Would loosening the drag help?
  20. That sounds cool. How much of it is pink, skirt and blades?
  21. As they say "@$! runs downhill". Those companies aren't going to feel the increase in input costs, they just pass it down to the consumer. That's how it works with everything we buy. I was thinking about buying a boat, now with the prices of gas I probably won't.
  22. I was fishin' a farm pond today and for fun I was using an UL rod with an 1/8oz jig and twister tail. I laid into what must have been a huge bass, the pole was bent in half and the drag was just screaming! I had 10lb power pro, so I wasn't worried about the line. This hog kept trying to go under the dock I was standing on when my lure came flying back at me. When I examined it I noticed that the hook was pointing up, not forward. Next time I will choose a bit heavier jig. Nevertheless, it was a fun fight.
  23. Yes, that is exactly what I was talking about.
  24. It was where the knob connects to the arm.
  25. I was looking at the two smallest sizes of Trion spinning reels today and noticed that the handle had a lot of play in it. Are they all like that, or was it because it was a display model?
