  1. I have decided to keep my BPS and Cabela's catalogues as a reference on reel specs for models that aren't made anymore. You never know when you might stumble on something old at a garage sale or on the flea market. Sometimes it is hard to find these specs online.
  2. I have chore jeans that I wear when I am out working on the farm or on outdoor projects. I take them off in the laundry room as soon as I come in. Those will get worn for a while, it depends on what I am doing and how much cow manure is on them. For hangin' 'round the house, maybe a day or two. For work I wear a new pair every day.
  3. I was getting gas yesterday and the station has a really nice outdoor store and I picked up a Shimano Sojourn for $25. It is a new model I think, but it looked like a good rod. I got the Medium/fast 6'6" in a 2 piece. I have tried several other cheap rods that said "medium" but they seemed too whippy at the tip. This one wasn't. I figure for $25 I can't go wrong for something that will live in the harsh environment of my car!
  4. I don't own a boat, but I have a PFD. I have a friend with a boat and when I go fishing with him it is understood that I am to wear one at all times. It's a good thing because I almost fell out a few times by leaning on the butt seats and having them spin as the boat rocked. For those of you who think you are good swimmers, do it with clothes AND shoes on and see how you feel. Be safe and wear it.
  5. I agree with you, the clarus is an awesome rod. My favorite BC is a clarus. But I am just looking for something as a backup, something to leave in the car for spontaneous trips.
  6. I just picked up the Daiwa Exceler for $39.99 at Gander Mtn. That's an $80 reel. It's last year's model, which I have heard is better anyway. Plus it comes with an extra spool, which the new ones don't.
  7. I just bought a Daiwa Exceler for $39.99 (retails for $79)at Gander Mtn. It's last year model, so it still comes with a spare spool.
  8. I just got a new reel for my favorite spinning rod. The old reel isn't bad and I intend to still use it, but I don't like the actions of my other spinning rods and was thinking about getting another one. It doesn't have to be expensive, and should be something I could find at Dicks, Gander Mtn, or Wal Mart. Any brands/models you guys could think would be good for less than $50?
  9. I have never used KVD, but I have used the ardent and what I don't like is the oily film I see on the water the first few casts. Does KVD L+L do this?
  10. I have a friend who is making me a couple. Find someone who makes their own spinnerbaits and they should be able to make something.
  11. I called my local store and they didn't really have a clue about the sale, but they did say just bring in a printout of the ad and they would honor it. I might have to go pick one up.
  12. I got to use my new citica yesterday and man it is SWEET! I have another one on a different rod, which I love, but this new reel really makes my shimano clarus an incredible combo.
  13. Practice. Imagine if you had cast that rod as many times in your life as you have put an eating utinsile in your mouth. You don't miss your mouth when you eat do you?
  14. A few days ago I went to Gander Mountain to buy another Citica 201E. I was going to try to get them to match an internet price, but right as I walked in the door was a table with some reels on sale for 25%off. There was ONE citica 201E. $89!!!! I get tired of manufactures that only make select models in LH. Finally using a lefty made life easier, or at least cheaper.
  15. The other day I went on a mission to get some round nose pliers for bending spinnerbait wire. I went to three hardware stores and they all thought I was crazy. They had never heard of such a thing. So I decided to stop into the Michael's craft store near where I work and they had a wide variety. Go figure... So if you are in the market for some stop by your local craft/hobby store.
  16. Thanks for the help. I did happen to find a bunch of blades in a sale bin at Gander Mtn in the colors I wanted. I still might try painting some in different colors just to try it.
  17. When I don't have time to fish, it is warm sunny and no wind. When I do it is cold, cloudy, and windy.
  18. I used to work in the music retail business and people did this ALL THE TIME. The customers that were habititual offenders did not recieve good service after long.
  19. I have always wondered this myself, but never tried it. I was watching a KVD video the other day and he was saying that he uses curly tail grubs with the tail going down and a trailer hook. The grub wasn't on the trailer hook.
  20. I bought a bunch of spinnerbait blades in a sale bin at BPS and was thinking of painting some of them. Any tips? primer? #of coats? colors to try? I fish off color (stained to murky) water with multi species including LM, SM, Walleye, and Pike.
  21. I bought a bottle of Gulp spray one time to try and it said on the bottle to spray it on cranks in addition to soft plastics. I never tried that though...
  22. Sometimes when I fish on a friend's boat we cast on to rocky shores on purpose and plop the lure in the water. Also, I can't count the number of times I have finished picking out a backlash to find a fish on the end of my line. I guess I need to slow down my presentation.
  23. I went fishing with someone once who had this funny reel (a bc) on a windy day and he had more backlashes than good casts. I thought why would anyone want to use such a beast. But my curiosity, and quest for a challenge got the best of me. Now I love baitcasters. I have been using spinning reels longer, but I feel more comfortable on a bc and can do more with it because I spent time practicing off the water. I still have my spinning outfits and use them as well. Good luck. ps. get yourself a croche hook to pick out backlashes.
  24. I ordered something from amazon once, not fishing gear, but it was sent from a completely different company. The transaction was problem free. Maybe it is like a consignment sort of deal.
