  1. That sucks Waterloo. You need to ensure that the way the line comes out of the filler spool is the way it goes into the reel. You can use a heavy book to put the line on with some tension. What lb test are you trying to spool on?
  2. SD jam is all I really use anymore; check the first few feet of the line every few casts or more frequently, and retie as and when needed.
  3. Sufix siege/ elite and Berkley big game.
  4. Man, I gotta get myself some of these Cavitrons. I'm still looking for my first buzzbait fish.
  5. Yes, that's what it is. CP, it's dark blue on top, and the rest is chartreuse. IAbass, that bluegill was a hair under 12". Not the biggest bluegill I've caught though; I once caught a 13" bluegill on a - believe it or not- half oz jig.
  6. Here's the bait that I call skunkbuster. When nothing else produces, you tie it on, find some shallow weedbeds or brush, and go from fishing to catching, within a few casts. No guarantee you're going to catch a fish of any impressive size, heck, no guarantee you'll even catch a bass; but you'll catch something. Good times. Number 100, fifteenth week since I got the bait.
  7. Well, here's a tidbit from a book that I have read. "Most of the time you will catch the majority of big bass in 10 feet or water or less, year-round. These big fish are up to feed. When they decide to eat, they have to abandon some of their avenues of escape." (Bill Siemantel/ Big Bass Zone) While I personally don't agree 100% with it- having caught a few what I'd consider nice-sized fish on the top, the bottom and every depth in between, I still think that's an interesting observation.
  8. I haven't read his book, so just a quick question. Did he mention that depth in relation to Florida reservoirs specifically or in general?
  9. ^^ PM inbound.
  10. You're hardcore! Congrats on the fishes!
  11. And y'all can get yourselves some strong perches right now if you act fast...
  12. Hardgill man, hardgill. Kinda difficult to *not* catch fish on it, no matter how you fish it.

    Thanks Steve.
  14. Cool man, thanks. Maybe I'll pick some brass bullet weights up. Strange thing is I looked it up, and brass seems to be less dense than lead (unlike tungsten)!
  15. Could you elaborate a little?
  16. deep replied to Big-O's topic in Fishing Tackle
Quick question Steve, when and why do you think this would be significant? In other words, when would I want to fish these as a jig trailer over the standard rage craws? Bait looks good. Thanks,
  17. If I were you, I'd 1. buy a 400 size reel if I was planning to fish 8"+ baits more than smaller baits (a bigger reel can throw smaller baits on heavy (25#) line if the rod loads up correctly. or, 2. buy a 300 size reel and spool with 15# or 20# mono or, 3. if I had to fish braid- I don't like braid- I'd spool at least 80 lb braid AND tie a leader on to prevent possible cast offs. Good luck. P.S. Apparently there's a lexa 400 in the works.
  18. Between those three, the 'Rado. The problem with running 25# line on 300 size reels is that at the end of a long cast, your reel is half-spooled; and that cuts down on IPT. That Okuma might have a hard time throwing a 6 oz bait too. It tops out at the ROF5 hudd (~4 ozs).
  19. I don't like the term "slack". To me, that means yards of line laying on top of the water. I prefer the term "semi-slack". When the bait is dropping, you can follow the bait down with the rod, keeping contact with the bait all along while allowing it to fall vertically. Be aware that lots of bites may (will) come on the fall.
  20. Yes, I believe you did the right thing.
  21. If you're just watching your line (I'm assuming you're talking about semi-slack line techniques?), you're probably going to miss quite a few bites anyway.. Tell me this, does your rod have a foregrip? That is a rhetorical question. I hope you, and anyone else who'd bother to think, can figure the rest out.
  22. Yes, thicker line would tend to dig in less in your casting reel.
  23. Maybe you can consider returning the line and getting some 50-60 lb braid or some 12-14 lb mono instead. What do you mean when you say **Aquaholic, I've fished with a spinning reel before but never with much success and its been years.**?
  24. Think I did a little punching one day with a Curado G, and it worked out fine. I don't have a Citica G, but I'd take a chance with it without fear of breaking something. (The regular punching reel is a Citica D btw.)
  25. Seems like I'm a little late to the party, but the correct answer starts with an S.
