  1. 6.x:1 or 7.x:1; either should serve you well (just reel a little slower or a little faster as and when needed).
  2. Caught 6 keepers (in spite of the cold front) pitching 1/4 oz jigs today on my new (to me) NRX 893C JWR. The rod pretty much blows my older Powell Max out of the water- which it rightly should, considering the difference in price. I'm not sure I would have caught less fish with the Max, but the NRX sure makes it a lot more fun. Fishing with 12 lb Tatsu, I could feel every submerged dollar pad leaf, every stem; even some algae that the jig occasionally picked up off the bottom (jig would feel "funny"). The level of crispness and clarity is amazing, I couldn't feel (distinguish between) half the stuff on the bottom with the Powell, and that was when I fished with braided line. Rocks vs brush vs weeds vs laydowns was never a problem with the Max of course, but this is like watching a movie in a much higher resolution.

  4. Thanks Dwight. Much appreciated. Not sure if it's the angle, but the 50 appears to be of the same size as the 100? Jeff, yes, if you could do that, it'd be very helpful. You don't need to take pics, just lmk if the 50 size feels much smaller in your hands than the 200 size. Like I said before, I never owned/ fished a 50/100 size reel. Maico, yes, still talking about LP reels. Retiredbossn, I knew you can do that; but I couldn't find the actual physical sizes of the reels. If could show me how to, that'd be great. Thanks Teal, Junkie and Norcal'.
  5. Rod is here! Yay! I was surprised how the blue is a very toned down blue-green. I was expecting a bright shade like I saw in the pics on the web. I was wondering if the 50 and 100 size reels are significantly smaller (in size, not line capacity) than the 200 size ones. If someone could post some info (a side-by-side comparison pic would be awesome) about two different sizes in the same model and series, it would be much appreciated. Thanks once again guys.
  6. The important issues are line capacity and how the reel would hold up over time to the stress of casting and retrieving heavy baits. The Cardiff is a proven reel (I have three!); haven't heard much about the Lews in the big bait side of bass fishing. P.S. Hearing good things about the Lexa too, lately. But I fish only Shimano reels. P.P.S. The slammer pushes a lot of water, and you probably want a reel would good strong gears.
  7. I have a 753 Max for jigs. In my opinion, and for my tastes, it's a little too heavy (in power) for anything lighter than 1/2 oz jigs (with a trailer).
  8. What's up Paul? Nice fish!
  9. Words of wisdom, Don't know how many hours I have wasted on cruisers and bed fish that weren't going to bite instead of fishing for fish that were or would be feeding.
  10. 100% LH retrieve, spinning or casting.
  11. I assume that's a soft plastic bait. Is the weight (insert) on the flattish belly of the bait on on its back near the hooks? Do you see an insert inside the mouth of the bait for line-through type rigging? P.S. I'd have put it in a bucket of water and see how it falls and sits on the bottom (sounds like it's a sinking bait).
  12. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm not very fond of round reels for conventional bass fishing. I'm not very fond of reels smaller than 200 size either, but I may have to rethink that. I got plenty of time to think though; since I won't have cash to buy another reel till mid-May-ish. Till then, one of my 3 Curados will have to hold the fort,
  13. Yum sweet cheek?
  14. Depends on the bait, rod and reel; but usually in the 30-35 yard range.
  15. a blue Loomis NRX 893C JWR? It needs to be a Shimano. Thanks,
  16. That's nothing! Heat the tip, take it off, put a new tip-top on. Takes less than 5 minutes.
  17. LOL, did you forget that you're the one who started the topic? To answer your question, I like fishing jigs and big baits.
  18. Impressed. Good job. May this be the first of many.
  19. I liked them (Pit Boss) for punching applications. I haven't tried Havoc baits (also fished the Devil's Spear while punching) for any other sort of fishing. I have my favorite baits for T-rigging and jig trailers, and they're made by SK Rage/ Reaction Innovations/ GYCB.
  20. This. If you have a Dicks Sporting Goods nearby, see if you can find a Daiwa Samurai spinning combo. Costs around $20 in mine. It's way more decent (IMO) than the Shakespeares etc I see in walmart. My walmart also has some Abu Garcia Cardinal and Berkely Cherrywood rods for around $20 I think (you'll need to buy a reel). The Cardinal I have has been good to me.
  21. Powell Max 753 Jared Lintner FB jig rod is what I have and like. A 1/4 jig might be a little too light for that rod though; unless you're talking about short line situations (pitching/ flipping) which I don't think you are. P.S. Lintner is now sponsored by Shimano/Loomis; but the rod is still available on TW.
  22. Lol. no absolutes in fishing; although I probably won't start with a jerkbait. WW2farmer gives some good suggestions.
  23. Wow! WTG T. Joe.
