Anyone Ever Used A Bluegill Twitch Bait?? I'm Confused

Featured Replies

I'm at a loss on how this works. The instructions are clear, except where does the line tie on at? Guess ya gotta provide your own hooks?

Can anyone make sense of this?

My guess is tie to front split ring...hook up a topside treble on the back?  Where did you stumble on this thing?

ya where did you come across it at? looks home made to me

I picked it up on Ebay...its made by Poorboys baits...they're website says nothing about it.

I hope it didn't set you back too much. The fact that it comes without hooks would be a red flag for me. The pour looks hand carved for sure.  Ya never know, could end up to be a golden ticket. Let us know how you do if you fish it.

Well I emailed em and am waiting to hear back...I won't use it if I can't figure it out.

Some swimbaits like huddlestons come without hooks.

Dont own any Hudds so i cant comment there. I will say id never buy a lure that doesn't come with hooks. That's just me.

All Hudds have hooks LOL

not the 8 inch ones I am sure of. They may come with them but you have to put them on yourself.

what exactly is the purpose of a fishing lure without hooks?

maybe you can use it in the tank at basspro.

I assume that's a soft plastic bait. Is the weight (insert) on the flattish belly of the bait on on its back near the hooks? Do you see an insert inside the mouth of the bait for line-through type rigging?

P.S. I'd have put it in a bucket of water and see how it falls and sits on the bottom (sounds like it's a sinking bait).

The 8in rof 5 and 0 huddlestons do not come with hooks. I would not junk this bait without playing around with the rigging and seeing how it performs. Its look makes me think of a stocker trout which is simple and ugly. But it has stuck many pigs.

That's a great bait through the midwest.  I used them with great success for a few years until they became pretty much unavailable.  Single treble on the rear split ring, I use an Owner ST41 1/0, line tie on the front ring.  Don't over work the bait; twitch it a couple inches and let it fall on a semi-slack line.  Fish it more like a jerkbait, in terms of speed.

Many, MANY high quality baits come without hooks.  Slammers used to, a lot of Swimbaits come without, ROman Made Baits come without, Black Dog baits used to come without, Moreau, Bettencourt, Catch Em Caro comes with hooks unattached on some baits, some without hooks at all.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the bait; in fact, in most cases it's the higher quality baits that don't have hooks attached to protect the finish of the bait.

It sho is ugly,But anything different is always a good thing .Something the fish haven't seen yet .

Id try it out myself.

Poor Boys baits replied back to an email inquiry I sent. They told me they haven't had it in their inventory in such a long time, the person responding forgot what it even looked like. They requested a pic...I obliged and am waiting to hear back.

So I heard back from the company and they were surprised there were even any still in existence. Exerpt from their reponse below.

I remember now…..lol  Put a treble hook on the back split ring and tie on to the front.  When you fish it, twitch it and it swims erratically.  I didn’t even know there were any of these around any longer.
