Someone asked how they are different than the gammys, they have a short shank, and they are 2x strong wire. In the smaller sizes the gammy EWG hooks are 1x wire and tend to bend easily. Someone asked about the owners, I know a lot of people like them, but by definition of an Owner hook is a "cutting point" and I feel they make too large of an entry hole and I get better results with any of the EWG style hooks than Owners. I have been using the EWG gammys because they have a shorter shank than the Mustad EWG hooks, but the KVD version is the shortest of all, and I have been having wonderful real world results with them. I will be changing over as I can afford them for all of my baits.

I hardly ever shoot colors other than the basics right out of the bottle, I mix right in my gravity feed cup.

i think its lurecraft.com that has soft plastic paints, google them and you should find it, even if thats not the place.

Just think about the patterns you are likely to do, things you will use a lot you need at least 4 oz of. If you are planning on doing this for a while get at least 8 oz bottles of black and white. I would guess that Gold, Red, Blue, Yellow, Silver, pearl white, and Chartreuse might be some that would require 4 oz. Some of the pearls and specialty colors could be bought in 2 oz. Also as you go you will learn what you use a lot and know to up the ante next time on those. Plan out the colors you have in mind and see how many colors you are going to need, and pay attention to how many are on several of the patterns and it will give you an idea of which colors to buy more of than others. They Rock! by far my favorite jerkbait these days, I still have pointers and rogues, but hardly ever pick up anything except the vision 110 when I throw a jerkbait.

Saw them making a rod the other day on the TV show "how its made" it shows the whole process of making the blank. You might get lucky and catch it on, or DVR it if you have one.

by plastics are you saying soft plastics? or just large hard plastic baits?

never paid too much attention to exactly how deep they are diving, but they certainly catch fish, and i usually throw it in 5-6 feet of water and find the bottom easily.

Almost everything people have suggested has a wide wobble. Why are you needing it to have a tight wobble in wood cover? your bites in wood are most often from the deflection not the wobble. My vote is the Lucky Craft RC 1.5, or 2.5

there are guys out there who love the chow hound cranks, but all the ones i have repainted always have the spinner cut off. I've never seen one with the spinner still on it except in pictures.

the top two are luhr jenson chow hounds, unless the models with the spinners had a different name, but thats what the model is without the spinners.

The new Mustad KVD trebles are short shank, and hold fish on amazingly well. As soon as I can afford enough they will be on all of my cranks.

The farther out you are the more power it takes to make it walk, hard snappy, but short rod movements. also if your rod is too soft tipped its really harder to walk the bait at long distances.
