  1. I got this from a place I can't mention, but thought you guys might be interested in this information about the lateral perch. I have no stake in their company, other than I would like to try this thing around boat docks myself. Just trying to save some of you guys some money if you are going to get one anyway. "The price is going up from $10.99 to $13.99 on November 1st. If you would like to place an order please contact They went on to say that places like Tackle Warehouse set their prices accordingly so they will go up there as well.

  3. I throw the Tru-Tungsten frogs, anyone who buys one needs to make sure the package says new softer material though. When they first came out they were too hard and not worth anything. I like them over the Spro because of the way they sling the water out on the cast so you never have to squeeze them out. I still have Spro poppin' frogs, but I am not happy with the smaller hook they have. I am excited to try the new Paycheck baits frogs, they look awesome, I just don't have one yet.
  4. Oh and I didn't have the KVD trebles on the bait unfortunately, it will have them before I throw it again haha
  5. Those were precut lips from Jann's The guy these went to called me the day before yesterday to tell me thank you because he and his son-in-law took the baits to the lake and caught 10 fish from 2 1/2 to 6 lbs. Thats why I make a few baits from scratch every now and then. I went yesterday to the same lake and caught a few fish in the same range, but I lost my 6 lber at the boat haha. I was throwing the first one of this design that I made.
  6. Baitsmith makes a topwater, the lateral perch fishes like a flipping jig they are very different creatures. I hear its killer around boat docks, but I have not gotten one yet to try for myself.

A few more custom painted baits from this weeks efforts
  8. If your around fish, you should still get bit on that color even if its "wrong". Its hardly if ever only about color, you may get more bites with the right color, but if your fish are still there you should get bit at least a little bit.
  9. I was catching 20+ fish a day no matter the weather conditions for a few weeks, but I too have lost contact with my fall fish. I can see some probable signs of the turnover, but its more subtle than usual. I have tried shallow and deep with limited results for both. I believe the turnover needs a little time to stabilize before the bite will get good again. The fish are just spread out and not concentrated like they were before.
  10. I used to bass fish with a fly rod and this was my best fly type, I was unable to locate a place that has them, but I can't imagine that they no longer make them. I had 3 colors, olive, black and purple. Olive was my favorite but I caught many fish on them all. I had a lot of fun fishing ponds with the fly rod, lots of big fish that were weary from pressure, but were willing to eat the subtle flies.

waters getting cool here, i gotta get my Jfowler flat side put together and painted so i can try it out.
  15. Based on my design drawings, this is what Nate rendered, he made it better than the drawing. This is going to be a cool bait.
  16. Indian summer usually means a week or so of really warm days after its already been cold for some time and brought the water temperatures down significantly, I think of them in winter more than fall where I am at, but either way they can mean good fishing. Summer haunts are usually deep areas the same as winter, an Indian summer can put the fish back to fall haunts in shallow water and bring on a frenzy.
  17. its a great winter technique so if you have done well all year so far then it sounds like you'll be fine to keep fishing it.
  18. I paint a lot of pink baits for guys from up north who use them for smallmouth. I also fish a pink trickworm myself from time to time with success, though I must say I don't have a pink crankbait of my own.
  19. Thanks everyone There are two different styles there, the difference is the lip angle. Two of them go about 6 feet deep and the other two go about 3 feet deep. Nate, Circuit board is basically just thinner than lexan of the same strength, therefore it cuts through the water easier. Usually you get a little bit more depth out of the circuit board than the same size, but thicker, lexan lip. The down side is they wear faster on rocks and such, so you can wear out a circuit board lipped bait a little bit faster than a lexan bait. You can still get several good years out of a circuit board lipped bait even if you only crank rocks with it, so its still a good choice.
  20. Thanks guys! McMaster Carr has the circuit board in sheets, and several of the lure parts places have the lips already cut if you don't need a special shape.
  21. after painting
  22. The top lure is the Luhr Jensen original paint, below are 3 lures I painted matching it for someone. Not that spectacular as painting goes, but you other painters know how hard matching factory colors is haha.
  23. As the fish move shallow when the water starts to cool your frogs will become more effective again, given that the rest of the conditions are right of course. I like the popping frog, but with the hook was just a bit larger, you can't upgrade to the next size up without losing the weedlessness.
  24. they make a very nice jig
  25. We pitch the 7" senkos texas rigged with great results, its something the fish have not seen and at the right time it can be awesome. I have caught some fish on the 5" as well, but I don't use it Texas rigged as often.
