Soft plastics
It depends on use, you have to watch the spot where the o ring compresses the bait and relocate it slightly for longevity. constant compression will degrade the worm. I slide the hook under and use it to move the o ring some. Not hooking the worm makes them last longer. I usually loose it to a branch or similar situation where the hook gets pulled into the tip and ejects the worm while you are attempting to recover it. I do have worms with a good 5 -8 fish and still go back in the bag. When I fish with my wife's god son [buys yamamotos in bulk] goes thru a bag or two every time we fish together and I usually loose ONE... I haven't bought a bag, other than to try a different size to try, in a good 5 years now though I didn't fish that much before getting a boat 2.5 years ago

Soft plastics
I use Yammoto senko with o rings and put them back in the bag... last two years I caught 90% of my bass on just two of them. Always have one of them tied on and they last, usually slide up the line as you land the fish.

Trust Your Instincts
I carry at the lake, early or late. I'm always surprised how few people seem to notice is when I come in and dock among the yak and paddle board board gang clustered around, especially with the amount of NJ plates I see in the parking lot.....

multi bank charger questions.
I sent acid trucks to a few battery plants many years ago, had delivery guys buying batteries at East Penn's plant but no longer. Used to see 5 or 6 different companies, a few are gone too...have to consider the amperage needed. and consider the 'get what you pay for' calculator.....

Vintage Rods and Reel
1965, my first trip to Ontario [11 yrs old] and Pappy hands me a short, pistol grip steel rod with red glass guides, a no name level wind reel with 30# 'squidding line and a home built 36" leader [all from Herter's catalog]to troll for northern pike in the one shallow, weedy, lake on the way to he bigger lake where we fished for large mouths on spinning gear... He had two, I think they were 'True Temper' rods..

multi bank charger questions.
I was reading that a maintainer will work on both batteries when they are parallel when hooked to just one and I'm starting out wit a pair of new batteries. I'm trying insure increased life. I have a 'shop' charger that I used after every trip at 10 amps with the batteries separated and only got 3 years from a set of WalMart 29 series so a maintainer appears to be in order

new tow vehicle
My little alumacraft [14' crappy jon] sits on a 1000# max capacity trailer with a stripped boat weight of a little over 300# so I feel the whole towed weight, loaded up, is around 1000#. My Silverado Crew 4x4 doesn't notice it back there with the small V* and I'm looking at a Tacoma crew 4x4 when I replace it. I used to see an older couple with a small aluminum boat and a Scion they said that was the max towing weight for the little car and they had no problems on the ramp at Assinpink, front wheel drive keeps the drive wheels on the drier part of the ramp

multi bank charger questions.
I have two M31 batteries in parallel with starter cable size wires connecting the large posts and it is just connected to my trolling motor via one set of the threaded terminals. Is it possible to connect a two bank charger with out disconnecting the large connections between the two batteries? I added a 20 amp hour battery for my 'hotel' needs so I'm already thinking of a separate 2 amp charger for it and don't want to complicate adding a maintaining charger to the two motor batteries.

Strong line pull, was this a bass?
One of our two week trips to Ontario [late 60's] and nobody was catching anything. Pappy kept diggin deeper and deeper into that old huge tackle box pulls out this black and white feathered monstrosity with a mother of pearl spinner saying "I haven't seen this in many years". First cast, about 1/2 way back and his favorite Shakespeare 'President' bends in half and his 15# mono goes 'Twang" and he never saw that ugly old spinner again! We were getting close to the deeper section where the locals fished for lake trout. Whatever it was, it was BIG.....

Fishing It Wrong
During a period of unemployment, I was fishing and got a call from the wife who WAS working....stopped bringing a wacky rig 1/2 way back. Finished the call and almost instantly hooked a bass. You never know

Missing a lot of Smallies on a Wacky Rig Senko
O rings and Gama Circle hooks [the point is curved back towards the eye] end of the day I put the worms back in their bags. 4 of the last 6 bass were on the same worm, always hooked in the upper lip. Feel the fish and just start winding, the hook themselves. worm slides up the line, sometimes you think the dinks are weeds till they start to fight back....

"Upgrade your Split Rings". Yeah right. Whatever...
Hmmmm....looking at the 'Herters' built stuff my Pappy left me. Big GLH, ruby eye and daredevil spoons with huge hooks added and every split ring soldered shut... home built wire leaders, etc. I still remember being 12 and my first visit to Ontario and watching him change out my line and started using his home built fiberglass rods along side level wind steel rods with glass eyes and braided 'squidding' line with 36' leaders to troll those big spoons for Northerns... I'll bet he had his reasons.....

trolling motor questions
Just a little 14 alum boat, I mounted two battery boxes in the rear. I ran the motor wires up one side and placed the junction box on the other. Looking at the transducer wire i do see a small nick that exposes the shielding, have to look at that. finder on the left, motor on the right with the transducer coming across the bow and follows the shaft down the motor doesn't come close to the motor wiring. i did read about ground wire with a 3 amp fuse grounding the skeg to the trolling motor negative may help. The brush kit comes tomorrow or Thursday I will leave the transducer off the motor at first then mount it and see what happens; I already had most of the components to replace the steering cables, etc. so a refresh to the motor was a good idea anyway.

trolling motor questions
Have an old M K 'all terrain' that I had initially set up with two 29 batteries in parallel after removing an older 24v Evenrude. Being a novice I added a junction box with (4) breaker protected circuits to the same batteries for my house circuits not knowing about depth finder interference. I picked up a New in box Hummingbird and mounted the transducer on the trolling motor. At first there wasn't any noise in the finder. Working with two batteries I had attached the motor to the opposing + and _ with jumpers to make a series connection and then hooked the junction box to the opposite opposing + and - with good results. The first summer I ran 7 - 8 hours in windy conditions. Starting out this year, I start hearing the finder alarm, repeatedly, when moving in the highest position. This had gradually worsened to the point where the finder screen fades out but comes back when I release the pedal. As I read up on causes of interference, I decided to divorce the batteries making one just the TM and the other just the junction box supply after a night run where, at the end the TM was pulling enough power to dim out the LED running lights. Testing the batteries showed both still had over 12v so I charged them and re-arranged the wiring. Sunday I'm out and the Finder still constantly sounds the alarm with out fading out until I shut it off to stop listening to the constant sound. A bit later I notice that the TM appears to be running out of power so I used the gas engine to run up wind and drift along the shore. Arriving home I grab my old analog meter and find the TM battery still shows over 12V. Would used up motor brushes start to build up resistance enough to drive a motor mounted transducer nuts after I separated the power supplies? Would that also slow the TM down? The Batteries are WM 29 deep cycle new 9/17 used more the end of 18 and again this year so far and always recharged at 10- amps as soon as I return from the lake. I'm thinking the brushes could be shot and arcing enough to make the motor mounted transducer notice.

Wire Leader?
I remember being 12 and on my first trip to Ontario. My pappy rigged our trolling stuff w/ 30# woven 'squid' line and 36" wire leaders he made from stuff he got from Herter's. Then he re-rigged our spinning rods w/ new 15# mono and 12" plastic coated wire leaders he bought. Those Bass used to inhale those Jitterbugs leader 'N all! Of course he had been fishing there since the 40's and knew what to expect; he would add larger treble hooks to the spoons we would troll and solder the split rings shut...

Vintage Lures
I searched antique fishing tackle and the first guy was close by. He went through the stuff I pulled out of my grandfather's tackle boxes. Looked at old rods & reels. He took every lure w/ a box, every old working reel and hand picked thru showing me what was collectible and what wasn't and offered $250.00 cash for what he wanted. Later one old worn wooden lure showed up on his website for $75.00. It was the only worn wooden lure he wanted. You'll find alot are not worth all that much. I also moved alot more at the Columbus Flea market & I saved all the stuff we used in Canada, giving a bag containing about 1/3rd of the duplicates to my friends son 'cause he will use them. I still have my dad's split bamboo casting rod & a few early fiberglass rods Pappy built w/ blanks from Herters. but all my fishing gear is newer & lighter stuff.

Which Glue to Reapply the Edge of a Bassboat Decal?
We used truck decals w/ 3M adhesives, They also sell an edge sealer that you can brush around the edges to prolong the life of applied signs, etc. That helped the longevity of signs on aluminum tankers that were frequently exterior washed w/ hot water pressure washers.

Hobie Kayak
I see a guy w/ one alot at Stone Tavern lake. he has a cooler and several tubular rod holders behind him and a fish finder mounted on the front & a canoe paddle hanging on one side to get away from the ramp. He needs to get some depth b/4 setting up the pedals. I saw the mechanism one day and there is a gearbox so the foot pedal power is multiplied to the paddles... I'm impressed w/ the speed he can get out of it. He covers the whole lake and catches alot of fish. He said he paid $1,700 for it...

When and where to use white?
As a kid we fished white belly frog jitterbugs in Canada...they used to make one w/ a little red right behind the metal plate and the really looked like the local frogs. Pappy, dad & me all fishing the same white belly frog all day. Most days we caught fish, some days more than others but they worked.

Deep hooked bass
I read about this method the other day. Yesterday I had a loop come off the spool after I cast my worm. After untangling things I started to wind in the line and found a fish on. I use Gamy circle hooks to reduce the chance deep hooks but this one was almost out of sight. I didn't see my worm and figured the worm and O ring were gone! I reached up thru the gill and turned the hook down. Then I reached in to pull out the point and along comes my worm & O ring! I never liked cutting them off and I'm glad I was able to learn how to do this! Thanks alot... 8-)
