  1. I'm a jig fisherman at heart so I put on a swim jig with a grub or paddle trailer trailer and start power fishing. My main targets would be casting parallel to weed lines and the first drop off near that weed line.
  2. My wife enjoys going Bass fishing with me so it's a win-win situation.
  3. Persistence pays off my friend, I primarily fish two bodies of water that are both less than 150 acres and they're both decent for size and numbers. It took me over a year to develop patterns on one of the lakes for big fish but I had to fish it every way/time possible to figure out where/when the best time is. The average catch for that body of water is 14-16" but with what I know I can estimate one out of four/five fish is going to be a 19-22" fish for me. With the biggest being a 6.25# Bass, nothing big but a good catch for my area.
  4. I've done some research on targeting Largemouth Bass through the ice and quite honestly there isn't too much information on the subject. I was hoping if anyone else out there has gone out of their way to catch bass through the ice. I'm aware that there are other species of fish to ice fish for but I don't care for catching trout and perch through the ice. I have a good idea as to where the Bass will be holding in the small body of water that I fish, ice fishing is also legal. Live bait is illegal to use where I live so I am unable to use live shiners on a tip up which would probably be the best way to catch them. I'm also unsure on what kind of rod and lure presentation I should be using. Should I use micro jigs on a light rod or should I pick up a stiff rod and try jigging a regular bass jig? Also are there any alternatives to using live bait on a tip up for bass? Maybe a senko dead sticked under a tip up?
  5. I stumbled on that method early this year fishing for bass in 45 degree water on my float tube. I was thinking of resorting to that technique when all else fails.
  6. Thank you for reminding me on this product. Someone else in person was telling me about them, I was going to order some and forgot (story of my life). Does anyone else have any positive or negative feedback on this product?
  7. Howdy, I'm a Colorado angler but I live on the western side of the divide. There is a pretty snazzy website for the eastern side guys, Fishexplorer.com... not trying to plug other websites or anything. Off the top of my head there are quite a few different places to fish, Aurora, Chatfield, Boyd, and Quincy all being places to check out. If you were coming closer to my neck of the woods I'd be able to help out out more.
  8. I know some people look down on bait fishing but a half inch of crawler on a #6 baitholder hook, with a #4 split shot, 14" above the hook is lethal. Fish it as you would a nymph or jig and let it drift the in the deep pools and eddies and you'll catch fish after fish for hours.
  9. I'm a line watcher when it comes to Bass fishing. I get a rush every time I see/feel a tick in my line followed by the adrenaline fueled big daddy hook set.
  10. I own both a Caenan and a Curado and the Caenan is hasn't failed me yet. I wouldn't go and say it's as good as the Curado but it's not too far behind it quality-wise. I use my caenan with a 6'6" MH rod for my spinnerbaits and crankbaits and can cast 1/4oz lures a good distance not as far as I could with my Curado but far and accurately nonetheless.
  11. I like the Berkley Havok Pitboss on a 3/16th tungten weight. A close second would be the smallie sweet beaver in CA 420 on a 1/8th shakyhead.
  12. So, how much does the fish weigh? Pictures are deceiving, there's nothing to compare the fish to if we don't know how tall you are but I can tell you that you need to hold a fish that size like a man. Look, your wrist is limp in one of those pictures, . I have pictures of my 5'1" wife holding a 3.5# bass and it looks like a 5 pounder cause she's so petite and because I'm 6'2" with large hands when I hold a fish it doesn't look too big. The fish in my avatar was a 4.5# trash fish but it looks so small. To me that looks like a 5.5-6# fish but it looks like it's full of eggs and been around the buffet a little too much so it might be 6.5-7# lmb. There is no way any of us are going to guess the exact weight of your fish unless you tell us the length and girth of the fish and we'll probably get somewhere close. /thread
  13. Yessir, can't go wrong with a package of green pumpkin of all three of those around my neck of the woods.
  14. The bunch of you must be psychics or everyone must be on the same page around here because I was just thinking about using a swimbait hook on a rage craw as well when I woke up this morning. I fish a lot of timber (beaver lodges) and was looking for something to drag across the wood without actually falling into it and a rage lobster and a keel weighted hook seems like the answer. I was going to head out in a bit so an update is required from me as well.
  15. What advantage does a 3" ika have over the 4"? All they sell in my town are the three inch ikas and all I seem to catch on them are dink smallies and rainbows.
  16. This last year I found a somewhat secluded fishing location where I live. It's a man made reservoir owned by the city that's about 145 acres and is one of our town's water sources. Since it's a water supply making contact with the water is prohibited so no boats or wading. Also it's artificial flies and lures only but it's been established that scented plastics are okay to use there. The times that I've been there I was targeting rainbow trout and walleye but have caught <10" smallies on accident. Next spring I want to exclusively target the bass that I've seen patrolling the area and reach a good 3 pounds but not much more. I've read a lot of threads and articles about fishing smallmouth bass in rivers, streams, and larger lakes/reservoirs but nothing on smaller bodies of water. Here's what the reservoir looks like: Overall there's not much cover around the lake but there is are a lot of deep structure around the dam where I focus most of my time. If anyone has any insight they'd like to shed fishing a similar location would be great.
  17. I'd jump all over that deal.
  18. I need to find fish that are big enough to hit a swim bait before first >

I hope the lazer lure catches more fish than the banjo minnow.
  20. One of these days I'm going to start tying my own jigs
  21. I have basic cable and there's not that many fishing shows on any more.
  22. There's always Trout, Salmon, and Walleyes to be caught this time of year.

  25. I'm usually at a local city park pond with many people that are just there walking and are usually more than happy to snap a shot of me. If I'm alone I'll just whip out the measuring tape and get a shot and release it. There have been times when I've caught 17+" Bass and have waited a minute or two before I land it so someone walks by and I can ask them
