  1. Is it possible that someone was fishing for flatheads the night before? After a flathead eats a bullhead that's on a hook they often end up looking like the ones you're seeing if they don't get eaten in the first place. Bass actually like them as well so it's possible a big momma bass was terrorizing some bullheads too.
  2. Oh I will go at some point. I've caught some shovelnose sturgeon in the river around here, but those are nothing compared to white sturgeon.
  3. Just glad they're up shallow again, so catching my flathead bait isn't so much work!
  4. I throw mine on a 300E Curado and couldn't be happier. You can find them on Ebay for less than $200 with free shipping like I did.
  5. The H2O Mettle is a sweet little reel for $60 (on sale for $49 right now). I bought one last year and put it on an H2O Ethos rod (got the reel on sale for $29 and the rod for $49). This little combo has all but replaced my Avid/50E combo for jerkbaits and walking topwaters. It casts a mile and while it doesn't feel quite as tight as my higher end reels (which is all of the rest of them ), but I've put it through it's paces, expecting it to quit on me, and it just keeps taking the abuse and coming back for more. There's a guy on another forum that uses them on Beaver Lake to throw A rigs for stripers! If they can stand up to that then they can handle any bass applications you can throw at them.
  6. The Savage bait is actually over 3 ounces
  7. Oh, and get a Cavitron, best buzzbait advice I ever got Any color works as long as it's black on black My first time fishing a Cavitron resulted in this, all on a 3/8oz black on black Cavitron.
  8. I've had several pairs of both, Costa blows Oakley out of the water for fishing. Oakleys are way too small for my fat head too
  9. I've broke dozens of War Eagles, after catching dozens of fish on them. They catch fish better than any other for me and after several dozen fish on one I can't really be mad when it breaks at the bend in the wire, just part of the spinnerbait game.
  10. Sometimes it's a tap or thump, a lot of time it's either just extra weight or it feels "mushy" like you're stuck in the weeds. That's why it's so important to weigh your bait carefully before you move it with these techniques.
  11. A lot. I did it once with some stuff I had in the Flea Market, never again unless the buyer wants to cover the shipping cost, but at that point they could have just bought new stuff instead.
  12. Once in awhile I can deal with, but if it becomes a habit the invites will stop or I will leave without someone. I'm super patient on the water, getting to the water, not so much.
  13. When you're at the ramp at night, turn your headlights OFF! Almost all vehicles now have the ability to turn the headlights off while keeping the rest of your lights on for backing and everything. If you've ever tried to look in your mirrors to back while someones headlights are in your eyes or in your mirrors you know what I'm talking about. Ramps are usually pretty well lit anyways, and your headlights don't help when you're backing down anyways.
  14. A vast majority of my good friendships started the instant we found out both of us fished.
  15. Thank you for your service sir and for making it possible for the rest of us to go about our everyday lives! I believe you'll be able to appreciate the quote at the bottom of my post.
  16. It should be rated much heavier than it is IMO. I use it as a backup swimbait rod and have no problem fishing 9" slammers or Savage 3D trout. I'm sure you could make it work in a pinch, but I wouldn't use it for a flipping rod.
  17. Crocs are the way to go for fishing. They're comfortable, lightweight, dry quickly, and your feet get plenty of air. They're about unbreakable too. I stand all day when I'm fishing too, don't even use a butt seat, and I'm usually feeling pretty good still by the end of the day.
  18. Sounds like a Santee Cooper rig
  19. Big sturgeon are for sure on my bucket list. Looks like a blast!
  20. Live baitfish or cutbait works really well. My preferred bait for gar is a fiberglass arrow with a barbed tip though
  21. I recently switched to 10lb Power Pro Super Slick with a 10lb Sunline fluoro leader, couldn't be happier with my decision.
  22. I have the 7' 6" XH/F Ethos rod that you're looking at. I wouldn't use it for a flipping rod but it does make a pretty decent swimbait rod, especially for the $40 I paid for it
  23. The puppies are harder to walk for sure. It can be done with casting gear but spinning gear with 6 or 8 pound test will make it much easier. Slack line at the start of each twitch will make them walk much better.
  24. I love the War Eagles but they are thin wire that breaks after being bent and straightened several times. I'd prefer a bait that works and eventually breaks over one that doesn't work though. I've had lots of problems with the blades coming off Terminators when fish jump and shake.
