  1. Welcome Austin! Good to see you on here! Hope to see you and Blake at one of the get togethers sometime. I've never fished it but I've considered it many times. Anywhere that's produced 13lb fish that's within a decent drive is going to get my attention
  2. Straight, steady retrieve, like slowly retrieving a spinnerbait. You can reel them faster but a majority of my big fish on them come on a very slow retrieve, just fast enough to keep the blade moving, bonus points if it's occasionally contacting bottom.
  3. 12-16lb Fluoro is what I use for jigs 90% of the time.
  4. I've owned the President, Supreme MGX, and Supreme XT. Save your money and buy the President unless you just want the lightest reel possible, then get the XT.
  5. Strike King and H2O makes up a majority of my squarebills anymore but I love the Spro line up as well.
  6. Pretty hard to beat a Super Spook Jr for overall production around here. Smallies, spots, and largemouth love them and they're super easy to walk.
  7. Texas rigged plastics probably catches more fish every year than anything else.
  8. Top 1 3/4 bottom 4.5
  9. That's what I've always understood that phrase to mean. They'll actually survive just fine with a broken bill in most cases. I've caught them with the entire thing missing, they look a lot like sharks without it. Not trying to give you a hard time, just trying to keep you from unknowingly breaking the law, but if OK is like KS keeping a fish long enough to take a picture is considered possessing it. Neat fish and cool story
  10. A lot of fish being caught on Biffle Bug rigs, light carolina rigs with french fries or fish doctors, and a spinnerbait if the wind blows. Some topwater fish being caught early on the Fin. Secondary points and small pockets are good places to look, especially if there's some brush in the water. Every bedding fish is different but craw and beaver baits are usually a good starting point.
  11. No, they just wiggle back to the boat like any other crankbait. I've heard if you bend the line tie down on the Fat Jon 50 that will make them hunt but I don't really want to bend up the line tie on a $12 crankbait that's already catching fish.
  12. They regularly get over 4' long in the lakes and ponds around here. They love cattail stalks if you can find a way to hook and present one. Berrys (strawberrys, blackberrys, raspberrys) and grape tomatoes work as well. They're very spooky and difficult to hook. Flyfishing can be very effective for them as well. Or you can just throw a 7" swimbait at one and watch it slam the thing like a giant bass
  13. I hope you had your paddlefish permit and you didn't catch it yesterday... Paddlefish daily limit is one daily on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Any paddlefish caught on a Monday or Friday must be released immediately. Anglers cannot possess a paddlefish in the field on Mondays or Fridays.
  14. I like the way Ethos feels over the Cranking Stick. The Cranking Stick just didn't seem to load as evenly which hurt my casting distance and made it easier for fish to pull off. Both are nice rods though and I think you'll be happy with either.
  15. I've never noticed it with my LTB's, new or older, but maybe I'm just not as sensitive to that kind of thing. I like the feel and sensitivity of them and that's all that matters to me
  16. I never fish a bladed jig when I need a fast retrieve anyways, that's what spinnerbaits are for I've caught some fish with my homemade ones fishing fast, but the bigger fish always eat it when I'm fishing them slow.
  17. Not at all. The Mirrolure is designed for saltwater use and makes a great bass bait also.
  18. They're great trailers on jigs, swim jigs, and bladed jigs along with being a great flipping/pitching bait. The little ones are great on a shakyhead and they're awesome on a Biffle Bug head.
  19. Get some suspend dots and a size larger hooks and you should be good to go.
  20. They work just like a regular Little Jon, at least mine do. They're a really good bait though. Never had a problem with the Scatter Raps breaking, pretty much the only wood Rapala other than the Shad Rap I can say that about.
  21. Mepp's without a doubt. I don't use them often anymore but the Mepp's was always the one to catch the biggest fish.
  22. I don't know if they're as good as the Rage Toad (never fished one) but they're a good bait and extremely durable.
  23. Sounds like the perfect recipe for a bladed jig! I've caught lots of nice fish in muddy water on a black and blue bladed jig with 2/3 of a stick bait for a trailer.
  24. Very good looking fish!
  25. Shots fired!! Shots fired!!
