  1. It's the Chiefs and Raiders, one of the oldest, best rivalries in the NFL. When they're playing you can pretty much forget about win loss records and who should win, it's always going to be a close, hard fought game. If the Chiefs had a better O line then Smith could just give the ball to Charles and let him run wild, but we don't so he didn't. Smith certainly isn't flashy, but he keeps doing just enough to help them win games. I agree that the Chiefs aren't as good as their record shows and will probably get spanked both times by the Broncos, but their defense is going to get in Rivers head and make him make mistakes like he always does when he's getting pressured.
  2. Sounds more like it got crushed in shipping to me. I've stepped on a few of my rods and never had one do that.
  3. Bass Pro, Cabela's, Roger's, Academy, and Tackle warehouse is where I get most of my stuff.
  4. You can fish any of them, just can't run fast or at all on them. You need a special permit for Shawnee Mission and Kill Creek, neither of which are worth it for an out of state guy. Gardner sucks, it got LMBV a few years ago and it's nothing but dinks. Olathe is probably the best of the bunch with good numbers and decent size. Cedar has low numbers but good quality but it's only 50 something acres and about 1/3 of that isn't fishable because it's so shallow. If you want to stay on the Missouri side you're really limited without having to buy a permit for every lake that gets pretty pricey. Belcher Branch is less than a hour north of KC MO on the Missouri side and is a pretty good little lake. Lots of weeds and timber and some good quality fish up to 5-6 pounds. Not sure if there's a HP limit but it's small enough to get anywhere on the lake with a TM and just use the big motor to load. On the KS side you have Perry Lake at around 11,000 acres about an hour from KC. No HP limit and some studly fish, green and brown. Problem is they're hard to find at times and if you don't know the lake it can really be a lot of work just to get bit. To the south you have La Cygne at 2,600 acres, also about an hour from KC. Also no HP limit and produces the biggest largemouth in the state pretty much every year (up to 10lbs). It's a warm water discharge lake and it's stocked with Florida Strain largemouth though so they can be very hard to catch despite the highest population densities in the state. To the southwest you have Melvern at 7,000 acres a little over an hour from KC. No Hp limit and a good population of Smallmouth and decent population of spots, and a moderate population of largemouth. Usually pretty easy to catch the smallmouth from 8-13 inches but the bigger fish can be tough to find but when you get them in the 18" range they are tanks. Hillsdale is probably the closest lake to KC with no HP limit. It's about 4,000 acres with lots of standing timber but the bass population is pretty low. I've been catching some decent numbers of fish and decent size lately out of there but it's really easy to blank on that lake too. You might check out Kansas Department of Wildlife's website also and check out the where to fish part for region 2 in KS for more ideas on where to fish. You can also find the fishing forecast that shows sampling numbers for most of the public lakes in the state. http://kdwpt.state.ks.us/news/Fishing/Where-to-Fish-in-Kansas/Fishing-Locations-Public-Waters/Region-2 Missouri Department of Conservation has a similar feature on their website also but I have little personal experience on the KC MO area lakes. http://fishing.mdc.mo.gov/
  5. Actually illegal to shoot in some areas in KS. They even have the right of way in traffic Don't ask how I know this http://www.skyways.org/towns/Marysville/squirrel.html
  6. 6-0 They actually have a good shot at staying undefeated until they meet the Broncos if their defense keeps playing well and the offense keeps doing just enough to win games.
  7. It's actually a temperate bass while largemouth, smallmouth, and spots are in the sunfish family. Just looking at it that fish does look like a white bass more than a wiper to me but it's impossible to be 100% sure just by looking at them. http://tnfish.org/PhotoGalleryFish_TWRA/FishPhotoGallery_TWRA/pages/TemperateBassKeyNegus_jpg.htm
  8. Shimano Sahara or Symetre 4000 will work just fine but you could go with a 2500 or 3000 size of either and slap some 20lb braid on them and have much more trouble free fishing than even 12lb line will give you.
  9. Pro Qualifier without a doubt. Catch them on sale and they're a steal.
  10. You can get 4 packs of spoons from Wal Mart for $.94 to save yourself the ear full you'll get for cutting up good kitchen spoons
  11. I put #3 or #4 on mine but I believe they come with a 4 on the belly and a 6 on the back.
  12. I'd go with a little heavier line but probably go with a copolymer like Pline Cxx in crystal clear. You'll be able to fish everything with it and it's super abrasion resistant and tough so you can put extra heat on them without having to worry. Personally I hate braid for jigs and t rigs but some guys love it, but with a strict budget it would suck for you to buy some, even the cheap kind, and not like it.
  13. I usually start with black, if that's not working I'll switch to black, if all else fails I'll go with black.
  14. That's some bassy looking water behind you! Good for you on catching your first bass and getting your son involved while you're doing it!
  15. Slender Pointer 97MR in gunmetal shad KVD 1.0 in silver sexy shad Xcaliber XR50 in ghost Keitech swing impact in black shad Super Spook Jr in bone Zman Zinker in pumpkin/chartreuse
  16. They're still really scattered out around here right now, a lot of junk fishing and catching fish on a little bit of everything. Wednesday and Thursday is Monster Quest days for kanasbassfisher08 and I. We'll be making a long drive to the SE corner of the state to fish a deep, clear strip pit that's stocked with 8-12 inch trout biweekly that grows some monster bass, for Kansas anyways. Not really looking to catch a bunch, just wanting to stick a monster!
  17. Shawnee Mission-electric only Olathe-5mph Cedar-electric only Gardner-10mph Kill Creek-electric only
  18. 166 pages of bassin all around KC on both sides of the state line! I'd be willing to answer any questions you have about any of the places I've fished around here. La Cygne is probably about your best bet this time of year, it's aobut an hour south of KC. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/41660-for-us-kc-area-guys-fishing-reports/
  19. He was going to get into it but I think the 60 and 70 hour work weeks kind of took up all his time to get into it.
  20. Lots of good blanks here. http://www.predatorbassbaits.com/id69.html
  21. Chris has an airbrush already for painting baits, pretty sure it's a nice one too. I'm sure he'd be willing to let you at least try it out to see if you like the one he has.
  22. Fished La Cygne by myself on Thursday. Started out a little slower than 2 weeks ago but then I busted 4 real quick from under and just past the bridge in the river, 1 on a tube, 1 on a trap, 2 on a spinnerbait. Got one more on a tube and one on a squarebill before I left the river, biggest in the 16.5-17 inch range. Was a little slower on the main lake but quality was better. Caught some off the rock wall, mostly on a shakyhead and trap. Fished the rip rap past the outlet for a long ways, caught a few more on a trap, same in front of the stacks. Caught one really fat one on a trap in one of the pocket by the main ramp. Went to the outlet and caught one on a shakyhead, 3 on a swimbait including my biggest of the day that was probably in the 3-3.5 pound range, also had 2 nice wipers. Fished the rock wall again, couple more on a shakyhead. Ran back to the river and got one more almost immediately on a tube then no more. I was going to stay longer but there was probably 15 other boats on the water fishing everything I wanted to fish so I packed it in. 20 bass, 2 wipers, and 2 whites made for a pretty decent day even without catching a big one.
  23. Forgot to report my short Friday trip. Went to Cedar Creek by myself in the gale force winds and expected I would be the only one dumb enough to be out, I was wrong! 4 other boats already on that little lake didn't inspire much confidence. Ran into skunked_again out there, surprised we haven't crossed paths sooner. One guy out there said he'd caught a 4 pounder and a couple smaller fish. I didn't get a single fish pitching the banks like I normally do. Caught a fish my first cast on a RES, figured I was doomed from there. Ended up with 5 dinks, the one on the RES and 4 on a homemade black and blue chatterbait. Bites were very light, just stopped the blade from vibrating. Water was a little clearer than normal for out there it seemed but still pretty dirty. Tried to get back to the creek and bridge at the east end, not happening! even in my boat with minimal gear in it.
  24. I'd be lost without mine most of the time.
