  1. Super Spook Jr, hands down. A 3 or 4 inch swimbait on a scrounger or darter head is a good option too. When they're working I'll throw whatever I have availiable at the moment though and it often doesn't matter. I had one come up chasing a shad a couple weeks ago and got him on the finesse jig I was just getting ready to cast again even though it was a craw color. When they're feeding they'll hit almost anything sometimes.
  2. I wish I had the money or garage space for a boat that size. I have to put mine in diagonal just to get it to fit. Nice fish man! I wish we could use that rig in Kansas, it's a blast to fish when they're eating it.
  3. It's a 16' Lowe Roughneck. I've had it on Grand, LOZ, Table Rock, Bull Shoals, and Beaver without an issue. The tournaments I was wanting to fish are team tournaments that mainly fish smaller lakes in Kansas though. They do fish Truman once but I hate fishing Truman anyways so if I missed that one it wouldn't hurt my feelings any. It's very similar to this boat but the livewell takes up the entire space in front of the console but is only a 13 gallon livewell. http://www.loweboats.com/2013/hunting-boats/frontier-1650sc/
  4. Certainly looks a lot like the Cabela's bait. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Fishing/Hard-Baits/Stick-Baits%7C/pc/104793480/c/104732280/sc/104605380/Cabelas-Fisherman-Series-Floating-Minnows/738599.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Ffishing-hard-baits-stick-baits%2Fcabelas%2F_%2FN-1100322%2B1000002949%2FNe-1000002949%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104605380%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104793480%253Bcat104732280%26WTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104793480%3Bcat104732280%3Bcat104605380
  5. Any of you guys ever done any mods to an aluminum boat? Specifically the livewell. Mine is just too small for me to be able to fish a tournament and the bug has bitten me big time recently. They make drop in livewells and such but they take up a ton of room and really don't hold hardly any more water than my livewell does already. Mine takes up a ton of space but for some reason they didn't use the entire space for livewell, there's just a bunch of dead space. I've thought about either cutting out the walls they have or taking it out completely and just rigging up a livewell with a big cooler similar to something like this. http://www.tinboats.net/projects/13-building-a-livewell
  6. Unless I have a pretty defined pattern or something is limiting the techniques that I can use then I'll normally start with 8 rods.

  8. That would be great if anyone knows someone with a boat that would be interested in fishing it and wouldn't mind teaming up with someone for an afternoon.
  9. They can be a tremendous bait early in the year right after everything starts spawning and you have tons of tiny baitfish in the water. Those and the Strike King Quad shad have caught me a ton of fish in the spring.
  10. Them suckers pull hard when they get that big. I caught a big one trout fishing that I thought was going to be a monster brown trout, what a heart breaker. The look on your boys face in that first picture is priceless, he's hooked for sure.
  11. If you could fish with a member/members on the board who would it be and what would you fish for? I'll get it started with a few of my picks Big O on Falcon for largemouth Dwight on Erie for smallmouth Fish Chris for Sturgeon or monster gills WW2 Farmer for largemouth, mainly because the guys bluntness cracks me up Catt for offshore largemouth because he's forgotten more about offshore bass fishing then I'll ever know JFranco for some of those monster brown trout Lots of others but there's a short list of who I'd like to spend a day on the water from the forums. So who would you fish with?
  12. That's what I use with mine, haven't had one fall out yet.
  13. Thank you very much. Always nice to get thanks in this mostly thankless job. No way I sacrifice as much as the men and women overseas do though. I sleep in my own bed each night, see my wife and family everyday, I get days off to do what I want to do each week usually. No doubt it's a difficult line of work with it's sacrifices, but there's no way I could do what they do. Like my buddy tells his kids "We go out at night to chase away the nightmares so everyone else can sleep."
  14. If there's any lurking boaters out there we're still in need of at least 2 more boaters for the get together. It's been a really good time the other two times we've done it with good food afterwards and some pretty good fishing too.
  15. Jerkbaits and jigs are usually pretty solid at Wyco in the spring. A lot of my fish Wednesday were on a 78 pointer in Pearl Threadfin shad color with about a 5 second pause. The jig fish were quick bites, tap tap and gone. Had to be really quick on the trigger to stick them. Funny thing was that the ones I got had the bait good like they must just be sucking it in and blowing it right back out. Never had much luck with a spinnerbait at Wyco until later spring or fall and that's usually only under perfect conditions. If you just want to catch some fish toss a jerkbait or a #5 shad rap and stick with them. What really has been surprising me this "spring" is how shallow the fish are despite the crap weather. Even at Melvern Friday they were in less than 6' of water, same with Wyco and Ft Scott.
  16. That's crazy. Did he just not see you or just plain stupid?
  17. X1000 One of the worst fishing lines I've ever used for bass.
  18. I don't use them intentionally for bass but I catch a lot of bass on them during the winter time fishing for wipers, mainly on a 3/8 or 1/2 ounce size in black shad or glow.
  19. shakyhead or weightless. Watermelon-red/purple/magic Green Pumpkin-red/magic Candy and redbug Black Sapphire South African Special Black
  20. I like to leave mine a little longer to give it more bulk and I like the flow of the skirt during the retrieve.
  21. That thing is looks like it's as big around as it is long! Freaking football man!
  22. Man I remember my first 5 pound bass like it was yesterday, always been the benchmark for what I've considered a big bass. Congrats to both of you and hopefully he'll break that mark plenty more times!
  23. I bet he couldn't have cared less that it wasn't a bass. At that age it's all about catching. Congrats to him!
  24. Fished a tournament at La Cygne today, wow it sucked. Neither Chris or I had a for sure bite until I caught my first 12 incher a little after 10:30. I had one close one that looked like a keeper when it first jumped but it went about 17 3/4. Only had 5 total, all on a spinnerbait . One team had 2 keepers and a little over 6lbs, another boat had 1 for 3 something, that was it.
  25. It's starting! Info on the KC area thread.
