  1. Sounds like a nice day of fishing. The put and take trout lakes around here seem to bring out the poachers in mass. One of the lake it's a $100 fine per fish over you limit. A couple years ago they busted 2 guys 36 fish over their limits for trout and a dozen or so over their limit for catfish. Could have bought a lot of fish at the store for that kind of fine. I see lots of guys that catch their limits, go home and clean them, then they're back on the water a couple hours later keeping trout again. I don't eat the nasty things and they die once the water gets warm anyways so I don't really care about people keeping them but it's funny to see them get busted for it.
  2. Depends what you like and what your price range is. I use a 7' 6" MH/F LTB for flipping and it's my favorite flipping rod I've owned.
  3. I like the 7" BPS version for texas rigging with a 1/4oz weight for pitching into cover for big fish. It cuts down on a lot of bites but the ones I get are good ones. Never had much luck with them weightless like a smaller bait though.
  4. In Kansas it's so you can use 3 rods at a time. I spend quite a bit time fishing for big catfish on the river during the summer so the more rods I can have out the better my odds.
  5. I've never seen them do anything but give warnings to people and confiscate gear from people. Most people at the outlet it doesn't do much good to ticket because they don't exist in the system.
  6. I hate all the permits I buy each year. Lots of lakes and counties require extra permits on top of the state permit. Hunt/fish combo-38.50 3 pole permit-6.50 trout-12 state park vehicle permit 20.50 3 year boat sticker for both my boats-32.50 each and then the lake permits start adding on Wyandotte Co non-resident fish/boat/trout-77 Johnson Co resident boat/fish-27 Plus I buy my year Non-resident for Missouri-40 with trout-7.50 Arkansas 7 day nonresident permit with trout for the White River-29 Oklahoma 6 day nonresident permit-38.50
  7. After the 2 cold days in a row we're suppose to have I wouldn't have very high hopes if I was headed down there. All the zebra mussels pretty much take away most of the real cold water techniques I'd be using. I know the crappie fishermen are catching a few on minnows and crappie tubes though. Welcome to the forum! La Cygne has been really tough lately and it's usually worse on the weekend, especially if it's nice outside. 5 different members that I know of went last week and I think between all of us on 3 different days managed to boat 5 or 6 fish.
  8. One of my wife's shelties loves the water, the other one hasn't really gotten a chance to be around the water.
  9. She did really well, wasn't real excited about getting in the boat at first but after putting her in the boat she took to it pretty fast. She wasn't sure what to think of the big motor at first either but got over that pretty quickly. I bought a smaller dog bed for her that she laid on while I was moving with the big motor and then stood next to me watching the water while I was fishing. She's about 4 months old now and has started to show an interest in the water. She hasn't swam yet but she'll walk into the water without too much coaxing. I'm sure before long I'll be working to keep her out of the water.
  10. Took the dog out in the boat for the first time at Olathe today and fished for about an hour and a half. Water was 42.7-40.6. Fished a shakyhead, jerkbait, and jigging spoon, nada. Guy floating minnows under a bobber caught a decent crappie but that was the only one he'd caught in a couple hours.
  11. Looks like a very nice old boat for 2K but looks only get you so far. Will he let you take it somewhere to run it or have a mechanic look at it? I got a nice looking older Ranger for 4K several years ago, but it never ran well and I basically had a 4K dollar dock with a trolling motor.
  12. Very nice fish on a little bait! What rod/reel/line were you using?
  13. Isn't Curling an Olympic sport? I'm sure it takes a lot of hand/eye control and practice but how does that stay and wrestling go?? I'm not a big wrestling fan but it has to be one of the most physically demanding sports out there. I get to wrestle with enough people at work to know that minutes seem like hours when you're rolling around trying to get control over someone while they're trying to do the same to you.
  14. It's funny how rarely I snag a carp on a regular crank versus how often I get them on lipless baits. Maybe it's because I fish them quickly over shallow flats and grass where the carp hang out I suppose. It's always impressive when one of those big grass carp gets airborne. I caught a 35lb grassie on an ultralight several years ago that jumped and tailwalked like a marlin .
  15. I actually looked at that lake as an option but it seems like getting the permit may be a bit of a hassle?? I'm not afraid to get skunked fishing for big fish and I've seen a couple pictures of some monsters from that little lake.
  16. The Pro Qual is a great reel for the money, I have one on my deep cranking rod. Haven't used the slower speed Lew's but I have the 6.4:1 for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits and I really like it. I've got a E5 Curado on my squarebill rod and love it.
  17. A friend of mine got a couple for really cheap when they went on sale. He tossed spinnerbaits and traps on them for awhile before he upgraded and gave them to his boys to learn with. As for a cheap rod to put one on, Berkley Lightning Rods are tough to beat and the Shimano Sellus is supposed to be really nice for the money.
  18. X2, seems there shouldn't be any assembly required with a bait that expensive. As for the bait floating, it's all going to depend on water temps. A bait can sink one week, suspend perfect next week, and float the week after that because of water temps changing. There's times when a slow rising/sinking bait will get more bites anyways.
  19. I have 2 pairs of Costas that I wear fishing and nowhere else. I've got some of the $5 Berkley polarized glasses from Wal-Mart for everything else. I've tried my buddy's Solar Bats, they seemed really nice for 50-60 dollar glasses.
  20. Most of our local lakes are tough, some of the only lakes that I still occasionally blank on. It's more and more rare for that to happen and it's taken a couple years to get confidence on them but it's been worth it because they have nice fish, there's just a lot of pressure so they get pretty picky at times. One of the power plant lakes I fish during the winter is at times the toughest lake I've ever fished. It's stocked with Florida strain largemouth along with northern strain and the cold wintertime weather in Kansas does not mix well with Florida strain largemouth. It has some of the biggest bass in the state so I keep going back, but it still beats me more than any lake I fish regularly.
  21. I like to go through all my baits and admire the battle scars. Remembering all the fish you've caught on those baits can be a real confidence boost.
  22. My wife goes with me pretty often when the weather is nice. She's not much for going when it's really hot or cold but she'll go in worst conditions than a lot of folks will. I bought her a really nice combo a few years ago so she could have more trouble free fishing so it was easier for her to enjoy. She's still looking for a big bass, been close a couple times, just can't get one in the boat.
  23. Since we're coming down from the north would Hudson be any good this time of year? I've heard it's a really good lake and wouldn't be too far out of the way for us and since it isn't a huge lake it may be a little easier to find fish I'd think.
  24. That's what I normally pay attention to but I somehow missed that the biggest fish sampled from the "lakes" category was not from Nebo but from Critzer with a fish over 8.5lbs! I wasn't impressed with that lake but if it really has fish like that in it I may have to give it another chance.
  25. As long as you aren't trying to drag a big fish and 10 pounds of slop in with it you should be fine with that rod. I use a 7' M/F Premier with 50lb PP with Horny Toads and hollow frogs around what little grass our lakes have and have no problem hauling fish out with it.
