  1. First time I fished in a boat with someone throwing a LC pointer. I sore that my husky jerks were just as good until I got outfished about as bad as I ever have. I have dozens of them now.
  2. Man you can fish almost any bait in 60 degree water and have success. I'd start with some faster search baits like a crankbait or spinnerbait and if you can't find anything doing that slow down with a jig or shakeyhead.
  3. Snagged a dead deer last spring that had drowned and mostly decomposed under the ice Getting my pointer back was not a fun deal. I did get a decent 8 point rack off of it though, figured I'd already got my hands dirty might as well go all out.
  4. When I bought the Ranger I owned for a couple years my dad pulled it home behind his Buick Le Sabre. Looked pretty funny seeing that car pulling an 18' bassboat but it got it there alright. I pulled that boat with a 2 wheel drive S-10 the whole time I had it. It didn't pull it very well and I of course ruined the transmission in the truck but I was a dumb teenager at the time that didn't know any better.
  5. I've lost a thumbnail that got smashed between cinder blocks, fell and tore off an index fingernail jogging, and I split my right toenail down the middle playing football. My right big toenail never grew back right, it is still split down the middle from the end of the toe to the back of the nail and another nail tries to grow on top of it. Usually it doesn't hurt too bad but sometimes it gets to hurting pretty bad.
  6. I downsize my line on my jig rod. It isn't for the clear water but because I switch to smaller, lighter jigs and the lighter line makes them easier to feel. Plus bass don't have as much fight in them in the colder water so I can handle even really large fish on lighter line.
  7. Never, I have 2 powerplant lakes an hour away and if it's a mild winter the river never freezes and I hit the deep holes for big blue cats.
  8. Yep, I'll still take a jig over a crankbait any day.
  9. ***.com is where I get mine. I just spend over $50 and shipping is free.
  10. I've never fished Lyon but from the people I know that do fish it, there is lots and lots of bass in there, so many that they encourage people to keep fish on the under size of the slot limit. One guy I know goes out there with his wife and regularly catches north of 100 fish, he keeps a clicker fish counter to keep track and I've fished with him and know he can catch them like that. Melvern was tough last week but with this cold weather they could really turn on. If you fish rattle traps or shallow to medium running cranks out there this time of year you can catch every type of fish that swims in that lake.
  11. I have never even started to feel like I figured Hillsdale out. We could have caught quite a few white bass but we were trying to get some walleye so we had to keep away from the whites if possible. On a brighter note I hit Gardner from the bank along the dam and did pretty well on a spinnerbait and rattle trap. First fish I hit was a solid keeper, probably 16-17 inches and thick, one of the biggest bass I've caught from Gardner. I'm hoping this means Gardner is coming back. I only fished it twice this year for maybe 5 hours total and caught a keeper both times and know of one 5 pounder caught out there this year.
  12. I don't know about the KVD rods but I have a 7' St. Croix Pro Glass and love it for shallow to medium runners. It fires baits a long ways and keeps skin hooked fish on but has enough backbone to pull big fish away from heavy cover.
  13. I love the competition and I love fishing. In the example the OP gave I'd go pro in a heartbeat. I've fished for hours for days on end and never started to get close to being bored with it, even when it's tough. I think fishing professionally would just add that much more excitement to it for me.
  14. I'll second that, I like the full handle for moving baits.
  15. The prices I found ranged between $85 and $110. They seem to take pretty decent video and sound. I was also wondering on the quality of the lenses. I doubt they'd be like my CDM's but who knows. If I can find the expendable income I might try them.
  16. I like amber for cloudy days when it isn't too dark out. When it's really low light conditons I switch to yellow lenses.
  17. I pay more attention to the water temp than the air temp this time of year. Depending on the clarity and the lake with 57 degree water I'd be fishing a rattle bait, spinnerbait, crank, shakeyhead, or a jig. Try a few diffrent baits at each spot and listen to the fish if you get a response!
  18. Fished Hillsdale Monday with the old man, hopefully I learned my lesson and will never go back there. Fished from 9-2, trolled cranks, casted cranks, casted grubs, jigged crawlers and grubs, drug shad on a 3 way rig. I ended the day with 3 whites, 4 crappie, 1 walleye, 1 catfish, all while casting a grub, dad caught a drum jigging a crawler. We were fishing for walleye but I still have yet to catch a keeper walleye from Hillsdale. Should have just gone to Wyandotte, at least I could have caught some bass and still had a shot at catching some walleye.
  19. That will depend a lot on where you live and what strain of bass they are. More than likely the 12" bass you're seeing are from the previous year. Most bass will grow a few inches to several inches long but it will vary between individual fish also even fry from the same brood.
  20. Nice fish Cliff! Looks like it has a pretty bad infection in it's right eye like you said. Hope that isn't the end of the big girl
  21. Has anyone tried these? Seems like a pretty cool idea and they aren't too expensive. Would be a lot nicer than a hatcam I would think. Wouldn't mind trying them out but hoping to get some feedback before I try them out. http://hunterspec.com/updateable/update_display.cfm?pageid=2603&categoryID=8
  22. Anyone having any luck yet? I haven't been out hardly at all but I've seen nothing but squirrels and a coyote the last couple times I've been out Put up a stand on a new piece of property that is small but has lots of promise. Hoping to get a Halloween buck this year
  23. I'm in, A-jay hooked me up last year and got me hooked on Xcalibur squarebills in the process
  24. I use mine mainly for jigs, plastics, and carolina rigs. I feel like I fish too fast with most everything else. They are really nice to be able to reel in quickly to make another cast or to quickly catch up to a fish that is coming right at the boat.
  25. Always nice to start the morning like that!
