  1. For those of you who have used it how did you like it? Is it an option for spinning gear or is it too stiff? Going to be fishing some really clear water this weekend and I'd like to get some good floro for my shakeyhead/wacky rigging rod but I can't pop for Tatsu or anything that high end. I might put some on my pitching rod also if it has good abrasion resistance. Let me know what you guys think.
  2. Got my first one in the mail from Tackle Warehouse the other day. I was surprised to see no split ring on the front of the bait. I didn't feel like I should tie directly to the front of the bait but I couldn't imagine my $25 wouldn't include a split ring if it didn't need one. I didn't want to use a loop knot because I have little confidence in the strength of loop knots (not a good thing with an expensive bait on the line). I ended up using a tiny snap and didn't have any problem catching fish and it seemed to have plenty of action. So what do you guys do with this bait?
  3. It kills me how many times I've seen people put spinning reels on trigger rods like that. How in the world does that feel "right" to someone? I don't ever bother saying anything, I'm afraid they might want to argue that it doesn't matter what kind of rod you put a reel on.
  4. I played last year and hope to again this year. My only problem is for some reason I have a terrible time judging distance of the ball? It was a ton of fun but it cracks me up how serious some guys take it. I like to win as much and probably more than the next guy but come on, it's men's slowpitch softball easy on the trash talking.
  5. I'm from an Irish and German background, I get burnt under bright lights nevermind the sun . I spend a fortune on sunblock but it's better than that feeling of admiring all the red all over my arms and legs and thinking "that's going to hurt tomorrow."
  6. When I bought my first boat, a '92 Ranger, my dad was going to go with me the first time I got to take it out. I back the truck up and he drops it down on the ball, hooks it up and we take off. I get to the end of our long gravel driveway and slow down because of the big washout hole at the end of it. My back tire dips down into the hole and I feel one quick jerk and then a loud bam! and the truck jerks again. I put it in park and got out to see what happened. My dad swears to this day he locked the trailer on the ball but when I got to the back of the truck my trailer was firmly embbeded into the fresh new dent in my tailgate and was no longer on the ball where it should have been . He said it was my fault for hitting the hole but I've hit potholes going alot faster and a few parking lot islands and never had it happen again so I have my doubts .
  7. Thanks in advance! We'll be headed down that way Sunday afternoon, can't wait!
  8. Nice fish! Where'd you get her at?
  9. Make 100% sure the knot stays wet the entire time you cinching it down. It sounds to me like it got heated up when you were tying it and weaken your line.
  10. I don't fish the 100's very much but I do fish the 78 pointer a lot. It's my go-to jerkbait and I have some with more scratches than paint to prove they work . I have lots of other types of jerkbaits that all have their place but if I had to pick one it would be a 78 pointer without question.
  11. I like them in areas with too heavy of cover for a spinnerbait or chatterbait. It does seem like they tend to attract larger fish for some reason.
  12. I might add a red 1/2 trap of some type to that list, other than that I'd say it looks right to me.
  13. Spro Bronzeye frog in the hollow body, Zoom Horny toad in solid frog.
  14. Zoom Super Fluke JR is a killer bait on the back of a Scrounger.
  15. I like the YUM Wooley bug. Fished the Havoc Pit Boss Tuesday and did pretty well with it though. With the price tag on it, it's hard to argue against using them for just fun fishing.
  16. Depends, how shallow are we talking? I love the 1- for really shallow water or fishing over shallow weeds. For a little deeper shallow water (if that makes any sense) I like the RC 1.5, Bandit 100, and Xcaliber squarebill.
  17. That's great! I find anymore I get just about as much enjoyment out of watching someone that is fishing with me catching fish as if I'm actually catching them myself.
  18. I'd say you are probably pretty close with your guess. Nice fat fish btw!
  19. I fish a lot of smaller lakes and I keep some pretty simple rules. I shouldn't be able to cast and reach your boat or to the spot someone is fishing on the bank and if you're going to get in front of me on the bank I'm fishing it better be about a football field in front of me. I always try to give other people room to fish. If they're on a spot I want to fish I'll just check back later and fish it then.
  20. I have to agree with everyone. I'm a member on a couple other sites but I enjoy and spend time on this one far more than any others. There really is a great group of men and women on this site of all different abilities. Nobody seems to act like they are above anyone else because of their skill level and take the time to answer any question someone might have. Makes me really glad that I found the site!
  21. I wouldn't worry much about the cold front. I'm at least a few hours north of you and we caught fish on everything we threw Tuesday and it never made it out of the 50's after being well below average temps for several days in a row.
  22. The first couple days after most of the fish pull of beds is usually really tough. My favorite post spawn bait is a wacky rigged senko. Even fish in the post spawn funk seem to have a hard time passing it up.
  23. I read a story about a guy trying to chew through heavy shock tippet while he was tarpon fishing. He was trying to hold the line tight between his teeth when it slipped and split his tooth lengthwise. He said the pain was so severe he had to ride all the way back to the marina with his back to the wind. I don't know if it was a true story or not but the thought of it makes my legs weak
  24. Sounds like you need to maybe do like Chris said and slow down. Try a hard jerkbait with long pauses. If that doesn't work slow down even more. Try a texas rigged soft plastic, shakeyhead, or a wacky worm.
  25. Yea that would suck if you forgot boots. I always have my rubber boots in the back of the truck and some neoprene gloves to keep them dry if it's raining and cold out. If you go back this summer make sure it's before it gets too hot or wait until it starts to cool down. That lake is flat out tough when the water gets hot!
