I also heard of someone catching a 7lber from Gardner this spring. I heard it was a homeowner on the lake that caught it on a goldfish while he was catfishing. I did catch 2 around 4 or 4 1/2 in March on a spinnerbait but other than that I caught one over 15inches on a jerkbait early in the year and that was it. I fished it a bunch because it was only about a 5 minute drive but I stopped going because I didn't see the point when there really isn't any chance at a bigger fish.

I grew up right by Milford and have fished it tons of times. October is a great time to be out there usually as long as you can dodge the wind. Jigs and cranks are usually good but day in day out the most reliable bait is a shakey head rigged finesse worm, either watermelon or green pumpkin. I like either french fry style worms or BPS Stick-Os in the 4 inch size. I've also done really well swimming a grub and on Chompers style grubs on chompers heads or football heads. Wiggle warts have been pretty good to me out there. I would definately have a topwater rod ready at all times. Not only can you catch bass on it but you'll probably see some wipers and whites chasing bait and that's always a nice bonus. As for location you had it pretty right on. I like points and coves towards the dam. I've never fished the actual face of the dam much but after the last two state record smallies coming off of it I might need to start! Hope that helps! Bone Creek is about 10 minutes south of Ft.Scott. Cedar Creek is about 10 minutes north west of Ft.Scott. Go to kansas department of wildlifes website kdwp.state.ks.us and go to the fishing tab. then click on where to fish in kansas. it lists almost every fishable body of water in the state by region. It has been a very useful tool for me.

I fished Bone Creek Wednesday and Cedar Creek Lake Thursday. The crazy weather on Wednesday made it pretty tough at bone. It really sucked when I noticed it was getting ready to start raining and I realized both pairs of my rain gear were at home in the garage :'( . We still managed to catch a bunch of fish but nothing over 18 inches. Wish I could find the bigger fish in that lake! Cedar Creek was at least 2 feet high after all the rain but still pretty clear. All the standing timber in that lake makes it interesting to fish to say the least. I caught fish on tubes, cranks, worms, and spinnerbaits but again nothing over 18 inches. I did have one crush a 100 series bandit then see how many laps around a tree it could swim before my line broke. Going to go back to Bone Creek next Wednesday and probably Banner Creek Thursday. If I figure out how to post pictures and I catch anything worth showing I'll put them on here!
