  1. Between deer, ducks, coyotes, pheasents, and quail, there's a lot to keep me busy around here. Plus there's 2 powerplant lakes within an hour drive so my boat never gets winterized! The bass aren't always biting but white bass and wipers still pull really hard and get you through the winter!

  4. Wow, 13 bass from Hillsdale. That's a pretty day anytime I've been out there!
  5. Is that Killcreek? I didn't know they had any channels that big in there if it is. Maybe that's what broke me off in the deep timber out there!
  6. Jerkbaits are the best thing going for me around here in the spring time up to early summer. 78 LC Pointers and 97LC slender pointers. Casting a Gulp minnow on a jighead on flats and points was really good this spring too.
  7. You don't have to throw 12" trout baits. I have a friend that lives on Minnetonka and I've done very well up there with the Strike King 4" king shad. Fish them along the edge of docks, weed lines, rock piles, whatever. The only problem is the price and the potential for toothy fish. I got lucky and didn't get bit off while I was up there but he loses 1 or 2 baits a month to pike and muskies. I'm sure you could use a fine wire leader but it may kill some of the action. The Spro BBZ shad is a very good one to fish above the top of shallow weeds also.
  8. I've never been to Kentucky but you're right about it being flat and windy here. Unfortunately that's a bad combination for being on the water! There is some pretty good hunting up here but the pheasent and quail have gone downhill the last few years it seems like. You don't have the exotic or saltwater fish here but there is still pretty good variety. Unfortunately there aren't any of the monster bass here that Florida grows! :'( There are several guys on the board from Kansas and I'm sure several of us would be willing to show you around some of the area lakes!
  9. I caught one like that several years ago on a jig. It was in a small 30 acre lake that we were tagging fish with twist ties to see how many fish we were catching multiple times and if they were growing or not because some of the fish seemed really unhealthy. She was 23 inches long and about 5 1/2 lbs. That summer we took out a bunch of small fish and any that were skinny and unhealthy looking. I caught her again that fall and she was just over 7lbs. With the right management and some time she'll get heavy again.
  10. I didn't do any good in the river, all my fish were on the main lake with the outlet being the best area by far. I caught fish around the island and along the bank by the island. I caught fish on spinnerbaits, swimbaits, rage craws, XR50 rattlebaits, and tubes. It wasn't a really fast bite anywhere other than the outlet and a lot of those fish were white bass and wipers but it's better than nothing! I'd like to get back to melvern one more time this year but work may mess that plan up.
  11. Don't know if any of you guys fish La Cygne very much but if you go there any time soon the lake is pretty low and there are several stumps visible that would normally be under water. Some of these stumps are a long way from the bank and in places where someone may run their boat. The fishing was really good despite the wind last thursday. No big bass but lots of nice wipers and you could have filled a boat with white bass at the outlet. It was an expensive day though, I was catching fish on a strike king king shad and broke or lost 4 of them. At 20 bucks apiece, that hurts :'( , but you don't buy them to just sit in your tackle box right?
  12. Blue-I'm a police officer basser-I fish for bass 86-my birthyear
  13. I can't give exact locations but I'm not trying to hide anything, I just don't know the lake very well so I really don't know what the arm I was in is called . I can tell you this, we went into the very back of the western arm, all the way past highway 39 and fished back out. All of our fish were on chunk rock banks from 4-12 feet deep, almost none of them were right on the bank but they were close to it probably using it to pin the shad in and get an easy meal. We launched from Ruark Bluff and caught some fish around the highway H bridge but no keepers (minus one nice walleye that ate a jerkbait but he won't be making that mistake again!) Later in the day when the bite got tough we went back under Highway H into the next arm over and ran almost all the way to the Greenfield public use area (takes a long time with a 16ft aluminum boat and a 60hp motor). There is one stretch of docks on the outside bend a little bit before Greenfield and the bank just to the east of those docks was loaded with fish as it was last time I fished Stockton. Sorry I don't have specific names, I just knew where I wanted to fish and went there! If you have any more questions I'll do my best to help you out!
  14. We did go on Wednesday and did very well. My best baits were a green pumpkin purple coffee tube, a green pumpkin red flake trick worm on a shakey head, and a ghost colored xr50 rattlebait. My friend did well with a pb&j jig and a black magnum trick worm. We caught a few fish on spinnerbaits, rage andacondas, hula grubs, and shad colored cranks. Chunk rock banks in 6 to 10 feet of water was by far the best and it helped to have trees on it. We launche at rouark bluff and went up that river arm to the very back and caught fish all the way back out to the bridge by the boat ramp and then down the other river arm. I had one fish that was 4.29 on a shakey head and one that was 4.59 on the rattlebait (if I could figure out how to put pictures up I'd post them!). I would have had a pretty solid limit for Stockton! My friend caught his only keeper that was about 16inches at the end of the day on the magnum trick worm. We also caught white bass and a few walleye on various baits. We did not fish the main lake at all though.
  15. That smallie has some crazy colors. It looks like the meanmouth we catch out of Table Rock sometimes. Awesome looking fish.
  16. What type/color plastics were you fishing? I've had good luck with black neon tubes and green pumpkin purple tubes and green pumpkin trick worms. Not that I don't already have one of everything but just in case the bait monkey needs anything : . He already got me to buy a new baitcasting combo for this weekend.
  17. I haven't fished it since the last tourny I fished down there in 2005. If we go I was planning on heading up the river and fishing there since the shad (and hopefully the bass) should be heading up to the shallows there. I know last time I was there they were eating a tube pretty well in the river. That is the only time I've really fished it from a boat since I was old enough to actually know what I was doing!
  18. Any been to Stockton recently? A friend of mine wants to drive down and fish it Wednesday but it's a 2 1/2 hour drive I don't want to make if they aren't biting very well. Thanks in advance for any help!
  19. I've turned big ones loose before looking at the picture on the digital camera. Caught a 7lber a few years ago fishing with a buddy and after I turned her loose and tried to look at the picture all I saw was a really close up picture of his thumb > . Oh well, just have to catch her again and get another picture!
  20. The wind was pretty rough but we mainly just fished with it where it was bad and against it where we were out of it a little bit. When it really started to blow we were just fishing faster moving baits because you couldn't feel a shakey head at all. I went back the next day and did pretty good but not quite as good. I did catch a pretty nice saugeye on a hula grub that made the trip back home with me. I had another good largemouth on a spinnerbait and plenty of nice smallies. Most of my fish thursday were on a 78 pointer in american shad.
  21. Well we went to Melvern today and we killed them! Caught tons of smallies and whites. We also caught some largemouth, spots, and one each of drum, carp, and sunfish. Nothing huge buts lots of smallmouth up to 3lbs, white bass over 2lbs, and one of the largemouth was just shy of 4lbs. Caught fish on almost everything we threw. Shakey heads, rattle trap type baits, pointers, and LC rick clunn crankbaits were best producers. Also caught fish on poppers, chompers, spinnerbaits, and gulp minnows. I was such an awesome day I may have to go back tomorrow!
  22. Yeah that wind is a killer out there if it even gets much above 10mph. Did you get any walleye? I've been trying to talk my dad into a fall trip out there (we go every spring already) but he never wants to go out there in the fall. I've never fished for walleye out there in the fall but I've caught some nice ones fishing for smallmouth out there in the fall!
  23. Thanks for the report skunked, I was trying to decide where to go Wednesday. Melvern was on my list and that looks like where I'll be headed!
  24. If you are throwing what most of the country considers smaller swimbaits (3-5") then the MH will be plenty of rod. I throw a 4" hollow belly and a 4" TruTungsten along with a 4" King shad quite a bit with a 7' med/hvy mojo rod and 200 curado. If you want the bigger reel I would definately get the 300 series curado. It holds plenty of line and is a much better reel. I had a couple 400 Cardiffs I used for muskie and catfish and they only lasted a couple years before they got really rough and one of them just quit engaging after the cast. If you really want the round reel, spend the money and get a 400 calcutta, you'll be glad you did when it's still working many years down the road!
  25. So did you make the trip to Milford? If you did, how was it? I've heard from a couple different guys that they've done pretty good out there lately.
