  1. what about those that actually pay for aol and that is their ISP? they still cant signup, even though their account isnt free. i dont think its fair to those people. Yes, some people still do pay for aol... what your friend might have to do is find a free email from a site that glenn hasnt filtered out, which means stay away from the popular free email sites...
  2. hahaha no, anything more than 3 is probably a luxury
  3. definately suspending jerk baits as many have mentioned already
  4. ill make many casts to one spot repeatedly, as i dont have a boat and fish from shore mostly. went fishing on my small farm pond today. the bluegill still arent out swimming around the bank in mass yet, nor the bass. i had been twice previously this year the week the ice melted off and had caught nothing. started out today working a worm around the pond with no luck. at the advice ive read here about jerk baits being good cold water baits, i tied on my rapala husky jerk. a few casts later, i pause the bait and go to jerk it again and the rod loads up and i set the hook, caught about a 4lb bass. my first of the year and first winter bass ever. next cast i made to the same spot and hooked up with about a 1lb bass. so essentially i made the cast to the same spot twice in a row and got two fish...never got another bite in about an hour more of fishing though...
  5. im right handed, and have reeled with my left hand all my life and held the rod in my right hand. i feel i have much more control fighting a fish if the rod is in my power hand, and in addition i feel i have much better grip on the rod. i bought my first baitcasting reel two weeks ago and went with the left hand reel, so no switching for me. ive tried right handed reels and they just didnt feel comfortable from holding the rod in my left hand and cranking the reel with my right hand...
  6. youre not the only one that doesnt have a rod and reel for every specific technique. i use my few combos for a wide variety of techniques as well and im perfectly fine with that
  7. Are you implying that all buyers of box store reels "Will Learn" to ONLY buy Shimano and Diawa. Maybe - time will tell. But time may also tell that these reels will give good service at their price points. If a person is happy with their gear - then good for them! On "learning", I'm sometimes glad I don't "learn" everything on this site. Just the other day I hopped in my 23 year-old car, drove to the lake, flipped the bail on my 25 year-old Shakespeare spinning reel, attached to my worthless broomstick BPS Extreme rod, tossed out a chatterbait on my also worthless 10lb BPS Excel mono, caught a 9.06lb LMB, released the bass, and then drove home. As I picked up some scissors that I've been using since about 1968 to cut my line to retie the chatterbait I started thinking, man, what I did was impossible - I should have had a new truck to drive to the lake, a ShimaDai reel, uber-expensive flouro on a St.CroLoomis rod, and at least used a new pair of line clippers to trim my line. How can you catch fish with this old equipment...everyone knows that this cheap stuff doesn't last or catch fish............. just sayin' : AMEN!!! i know exactly what you mean. Its nice to have quality gear and theres nothing wrong with paying good money for it if thats your thing. but at the same time, theres no need to be snobby and act like a man cant catch the same big fish on a cheap and/or moderately priced but effective combo as another man can catch on his highly touted and also effective expensive combo. specifically, a lot of people here are very high on shimanos and make comments like "wouldnt have that problem with a shimano" etc., not that shimano doesnt make a quality product(i have a lightweight shimano spinning combo that i love), theyre not the end-all be-all. plenty of people catching quality fish on a bunch of quality products that are available to us that are not shimano. i just wish some didnt act like the brand of their rod or reel makes them a better fisherman than anyone else here. just because you drive a 2011 rolls royce doesnt mean youre a better driver than the guy driving a 1958 vw beetle...

Crickhoppers are indeed fun. They do catch a mixed bag as the hooks are small enough for bluegills to take. In fact, i was fishing a pond one day and looking off at cars go by when i felt a small tug on the end of my line. i had hooked a small 3 inch or so bluegill on my crickhopper and was like "aww man, i hope he can shake the hook" so i let him swim around and fight a few seconds then all of a sudden a 3.5lb bass comes out from under an algae patch right there at the bank and crushes this bluegill. i sit there watching in awe not knowing what to do watching him eat this bluegill tail first with my hook in the bluegills mouth. i finally just swing for the sky as the bass jumps out of the water, i see the bluegill go down his throat and my tiny crickhopper hook sets into the basses mouth, it was truely amazing to see, and to catch the bass in the process. hows that as a 2 for 1? anyways, green belly colored ones have worked best for me. i also have a crawdad by rebel that has caught a few bass. they have been pretty productive in ponds for me, not so much on lakes, maybe if you found the right conditions though...
  9. sorry, but i dont buy that braid is a neccesity. while it may make some feel like they have an advantage with braid, i do just fine frog fishing with mono, it doesnt stretch like a rubberband as some people would have you believe...
  10. funny, i paid around $5 for my snag proof frog at walmart...it wasnt marked as on sale either... never had the tail sticky problem with a frog either. maybe youre not storing them properly or something...
  11. assuming youve properly stored it, your 1-2 y/o line and even line older than that should be fine so long as it isnt brittle and it isnt snapping when you pull on it from two ends. its probably fine to fish with, but should definately serve the purpose of backing well if thats your intentions. i have reels right now that have had the same line on it for 2-3 years and its just fine. for me, the only reason i see to respool frequently is if the line is running low on the reel(which is always the case with me) or if the line goes bad(which is never the case) or if i just happened to buy a bad batch of line(which is rarely the case)
  12. i really hope you learned your lesson after that. you put your life and the lives of others in danger, and there is no excuse for pure stupidity. theres so many other dangers on the water to worry about than having to deal with people being idiots too. sorry, dont mean to sound like im calling names, but one would think that you would realize now that running through thick fog at 50mph was a pretty stupid thing to do. you might be a smart person overall, but your actions at the time are inexcusable in my eyes...
  13. congrats Goose, thats one beautiful fish. i have an affinity for shakespeare products even if theyre not considered the best. while mine arent near as vintage as yours, they have served me well the last few years and hope they continue to do so as your old reel seems to have treated you well. ive had a chatterbait in the package brand new for over a year, im definately gonna have to use it this year. mine came with a trailer in the package, did yours not?
  14. and i always thought Sam was joking when he called it "one fish Anna" ;D
  15. i would never ever ever recommend the "screwdriver trick" to anyone, nor would i do it myself. everytime ive seen someone do that they end up destroying the oil filter and end up worse off than before, making it harder to remove the filter, its not even about getting oil all down your arm or making a mess...
  16. i would look for things like visible trees, stumps, and laydowns. also things such as lillipads and other vegetation. look for possible creeks that may run into the lake. also, points. if all else fails i would beat the banks...
  17. irfanview, best simple photo software available that ive used in my opinion. very easy to resize pictures and also reduces the file size a great deal too, which is great if youre planning to upload them. theres also a few other great options, though it doesnt have the options of a program like photoshop. its not the resource hog that photoshop is, doesnt horribly distort quality like ms paint will either. and the best part is its free. i recommend everyone looking for simple photo software give Irfanview a try... http://www.irfanview.com/main_download_engl.htm
  18. So, if you met Ike and he was cool with you and then you met another pro who you said you liked better, but he was a jerk to you.....would you still not like Ike because he "throws a fit on T.V.?" I'm tired of people using that as a reason to say they don't like Ike when his behavior doesn't effect anyone. seriously though. you would think some people want to persecute ike just because he shows some passion about what hes doing...
  19. this is good to know, im gonna call and ask about adding it now that i know this, thanks...
  20. the last best album that ive heard that impressed me the most has been: The Left - Gas Mask yes, there is hiphop/rap from detroit other than eminem
  21. i think this sums a lot of it up right here...
  22. LOL hilarious but really though, if its just a sprain, soak it in some warm/hot water with epsom salt, rub some cornhuskers oil on it, and tough it out.
  23. if youre looking for a trip you can do in a day locally, you could try butts tube inc. right here in loudoun county. they offer guided fishing trips out here where the potomac and shenandoah rivers merge together. i think the sign out front says its free if you dont catch anything. seeing as how its beermasters, i dont know how they feel about drinking if yall like to involve alcohol. i dont think there is cabins, but the website says theyre offering camping this year. but to make a day of it wouldnt be so bad as youre close enough to go home afterwards and save some money. though there is a couple bed and breakfasts out here too i believe. or also you can look at a map and gather info of the rivers out here near harpers ferry and plan your own trip here is the link incase youre interested in checking it out http://www.btiwhitewater.com/
  24. basically i agree with this. its also the reason i dont believe in so called "search baits" people talk about here.
