So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
quick report from this weekend. fished sat. 6/30, 530am-9 and literally caught nothing. Fishin partner and I were trying to force a grass pattern. Fished Points, and Humps that had scattered hydrilla in depths of 12-20 feet. It actually confused me that these fish wouldn't eat. i know they were there, cuz i caught them there a week before. C-rigs, T-rigs, drop shots, and cranks. Nothing. Very frustrating morning. Went in, got lunch, napped and regrouped. We decided to avoid grass all together in the pm. Went to a deep hump that only covers about 30 square yards with no real cover on it. Top of the hump is 24', surrounded by water ranging from 35-37 feet. It turned out to be a good decisiion. We got to the spot at 545 and fished until 830 and caught a total of 26 fish. 21 Largemouth, 15 being over 14". Our biggest 5 weight right at 18 lbs. other 5 fish were, 3 white bass, 1 spotted bass, and 1 drum. As for the pattern, all the fish were suspended off the bottom, ranging from 17-20 feet from the water's surface. Caught 5 fish in about 15 minutes on 6XD crankbaits. Then the school slowed a bit, Made a switch to 3.5" jiggin spoons. It was on fire from then on. Caught 20 on jiggin spoons and lost 5-6 more. ok, sorry for the long post..

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
thanks, cajun... my thinking IS MOST LIKELY FLAWED, but i've been throwing around ideas in my head that i want somebody who doesn't know the lake, and might use some of my spots if his aren't producing... i fun fished thursday evening, only hit 3 spots, only fished from 5-815 and my best 5 (i only had 10 total) were around 16.5lbs... now im hoping those holes will produce earlier in the day when i'll need them, but im not really counting on getting to fish them... so MAYBE just maybe, someone who isn't familiar with the lake may use a spot of mine, since i fish this lake in excess of 50 times a year. well that's at least what im hoping.... now, in all honesty im really only fishing this event to try to learn from a ""pro"".. maybe see if i'm overlooking something out here on the bend, or see if they might try something i had never thought to throw here, and if it works, i'll employ that technique in the future... fishing 1 lake so often people tend to get caught up doing the same 4-5 techniques in the same holes... so i'm definitly looking to learn something.... how great would it be to get paired up with tommy martin, jim tutt, todd castledine... the biggest delimma i have is trying to decide what tackle to bring in my bag... i bought a tackle bag that holds 7 (9"X14") boxes, and 5 sippered pockets to stuff other stuff in... I'm gonna try to be out of the way of the ""pro"" so i'm thinking only 5 rods, that's i'll have to use multiple techinques with the same rods, so im going to leave my normal drop shot setup (which i don't use very often) at the camp, if i need to drop shot, i'll just do it on a baitcaster instead of my spinnin rod... My A-rig rod loaded with 65lb braid is going to have 3 uses, arig - frog - and c-rig ( i keep pre-tied leaders in a box, Jig rod, Crankbait rod and topwater... life jacket, drinks/snacks, rejuvenade, culling clips, spare reel already spooled up incase i backlash the hell out of one, spool of line, general fishing tools... and looking at the weather i won't need rain suit... am i forgetting anything???

No appology needed catt... Most of the fish have spawned, just not all... now for report... fished tuesday-friday. Fished every morning from 6:30 - 12, spend parts of each day in 6mile, housen, ind.mounds, toro/pirates, and slaughter.. Caught decent numbers everywhere except toro... 80% of the fish i caught were in the 12-18 foot range. All the rest were caught on spawning flats in 3-5 fow. All fish came on cranks, and A-rig, most on cranks though. Now, most of the fish i caught were post spawn, and a few still spawning, and 1 fish for sure pre-spawn. the pre-spawn fish i caught was thursday near ind.mounds, in 20 fow and was FULL of eggs. Didnt' catch any real big ones, lots of fish in the 2-3 range. Did get a nice 6lb post-spawner though.

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
fished housen and 6mile.... flipped buck brush all day... almost all fish were caught in 1-2 fow.. I MEAN SHALLOW!!!!... we flipped our baits as far back into the brush we could.. some of the fish were in water as shallow as 8-10 inches.... there was lots of other boats near us and i noticed they were struggling, mainly because they weren't fishing shallow enough, most of them were just casting up to the bushes, not back behind them.... we saw upwards of 40 beds in the 3-4 foot of water range, but those fish were simply uncatchable.. they had seen hundreds of baits and boats, and they were spooked....

What depths were you throwing???? Inside grass line? creek channel edges? reason i ask, is me and my partner has a steady bite this weekend on the edge of creek channels with jigs. The cold front that came through on friday pushed them back a little bit and we found them in the same staging areas that we've been catching them on for the past 3-4 weeks. These creek channel edges were in the 10-14 foot range. All said, Sunday we had 16 fish with 12 keepers... 1 fish @ 4 1/2 , and 3 fish right at 3lbs... and many more in the 2-2 1/4 range.... nothing of spectacular size but was definately a great outting.

Good luck... nearly most the guides on fork that advertise heavily are already booked up through april, and have been for months..... Maybe you can call one of them, and they'll let you know of some other guides that might have openings,

Toledo Bend 14.62
i thought some of you would enjoy this. Saturday Feb. 25 on Toledo Bend Ryan Pinkston caught this 14.62 during the bass-n-bucks tournament. This fish, along with an 8.0, helped give him a 36.60 bag.

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
just a little report.... Fished today 1/28 from roughly 7-1. Wind was ridiculous on the way to the first fishin hole. The pattern was consistant all day. The fish were in creek channel bends and on the edge of flats very close to the creek channels, ranging from 8-15 fow. Caught fish on multiple presentations, cranks, spinners, jigs, and plastics. Pics of the best 2 from today, a 4.0 and a 6.0

That rocky point on the northwest corner Tx island is a good summer/fall/winter place to fish.. i personaly have caught many fish there, I usually carolina rig that point... If you're gonna fish mill and pirates anytime in the next week or two, concentrate on secondary points near creek channels.
