  1. really? Cause i know for a fact the Skitter pop is balsa...
  2. I'm very unfamiliar with fishing weightless plastics. Last year, i tried to fish a weightless senko: i threw it near a dock, waited for it to sink about 4 feet, twitched it up to about a foot, let it sink another 4 feet, repeat. I got bored with it so quick, i switched back to my crankin rod. Am i doing it right? If so, how can you guys stand fishing weightless plastics? It's worse than fall jig fishing! (maybe i'm just not patient enough ;D )
  3. Any suggestions? Where do the bass spawn? What techniques work best? Thx
  4. I'm going to fish Lake WA more often in 2009. The only hotspots i've fished are the various large bridges and the UW bay area. What are your favorite hotspots? What lures and techniques work best there? ALSO (IMPORTANT): Where do the bass spawn in Lake WA? Multiple locations will be more helpful.
  5. After watching a Angling Edge episode on OnDemand, i had to purchase some Skitter Walks (also because one of my 2009 goals is to catch more fish with topwaters). Anybody have experience with them? How are they? Pros/cons? One thing i feared was that it was going to be too light seeing how rapalas are made from balsa, but the weights they added made it about 1/2 ounce, so i'm atleast already happy about that. (i'm getting them delivered around tuesday)
  6. A great value (i've seen it), but it's SO DANG big! i don't have enough tackle to fill 8 humongous utility boxes, and the bag itself weighs 30 pounds, so i'm doubting i'll consider it. There are smaller versions of Okeechobee Fats right?
  7. So i've had a good ol Plano drawer system tackle box for a long time, and i think it's time to upgrade from this obsolete system of storage. What tackle bags do you guys recommend? I'm searching for one that carries about as much tackle as my old tackle box ( http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_52238_100011009_100000000_100011000_100-11-9 ). actually, maybe a bit more tackle because the BaitMonkey is holding me hostage for ransom ;D I've been looking into Brownings, falcon, plano, Okeechobee Fats, etc.
  8. it seems more solid than my old Quantum energy pt baitcast reel... i like it ... alot ;D nothing better to spark more cabin fever than a new reel
  9. Your profile picture fits you well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D are you a tourney fisher? or are you just plain rich? or rather, have you been struck with the BaitMonkey syndrome like all of us?
  10. Call me a nerd, but i spent like 2 hours just inspecting the beauty inside out lubing everything i can. Quantum factory hot sauce application has nothing on my skills ;D Anyways, i'll make sure to post a pic of the first bass i catch with it next prespawn season (march-may)
  11. it's fishing experiences like these that we live for... :'( (tears of joy) also, NICE FISH!
  12. astonishingly enough, i landed a 40 pound carp at Lake Washington, WA with my BPS Bionic Blade (M power). and this rod is my designated bass baitcast rod, and i was not expecting to make it undergo such stress, but hey... it still performs like new so it tells you it's a great value on sale for 59.99 right now!
  13. it isn't flashy, but i'm sure it performs like a beaut. but personally, i wouldn't hold any "pride of ownership" if i bought that reel. And personally, when i buy a reel, 20% goes into hope for performance and 80% goes into pride of ownership : ;D a branching of symptoms of the BaitMonkey Syndrome perhaps? : but i guess that doesn't apply to when i bought my Quantum PTi-A spinning reel... i put 100% into performance cause i needed a spinning reel that would last me through college and beyond.
  14. Thx you guys! I don't flip or pitch a lot, but when i do, i'll know how to properly utilize the switch now Yah, i just needed to put in a bit more muscle for the switch to go down. i just didn't want to break it. I don't think i'll use it much (also, it's another toy that COULD break upon frequent use), but when i do, i guess it'll be helpful. So overall, i really like my purchase. I was also sad to see them off the Quantum line up. But hey... makes our reels the more special and unique ;D 8-)
  15. i just got my quantum accurist PT, and i am dumbfounded on how to use the flippin switch. I tried to "flip" the switch (haha), but it just won't budge. I'm afraid i'll break it (but i doubt it will), so i want some raw experience backing me up. Also, the stupid owner's manual has ZERO on the flippin switch. What in god's name does it do?
  16. If you're a smallie hunter like myself, nothing beats a quality finesse jig. My favorite being Strike King Bleeding Bitsy Jig. Small profile, 1/4 ounce, and ofcourse S.K signature bleeding bait characteristics (red hooks, etc). The Eakins Finesse Jig is another choice, but you can buy two or three S.K BBJ with the price of one of these.
  17. 4/6 of them i need to get me some of those lucky crafts... but they're just too d@#n expensive. My philosophy is, with the money i spend for one lucky craft crankbait, i can get 6 bomber crankbaits of a spectrum of colors and sizes. do they actually catch more fish? or is it just a baitmonkey placebo effect?
  18. also, i would like to add you have a kick-a$$ reel
  19. I'll be honest and straightfoward from experience with the Ugly Stik when i was first starting out with fishing: it SUCKS!!! > it was made for people who shop too much at Walmart If you're looking for a bargain with 50-100$ to spend, check out Bass Pro's XPS rods like the bionic blade or the extreme rod. If you have more money on hand, look at some G Loomis rods. For a bit over 200$, you can get a nice rod for a nice price (especially if you consider the quality of these rods). With even more money on hand, the Daiwa Steez at around 500$ is truly a dream rod. but these are only my opinions. but a basically universal opinion with most of the members here is that the Ugly Stik sucks for bass fishing, but performs well with still-fishing tactics for carp/catfish. because frankly, rod sensitivity and performance don't matter crap with still-fishing. ;D sorry if my post sounds aggressive or angry. it's just that i got so fed up with the whippiness of my ugly stik, that i managed to snap it after the last straw 6 years ago
  20. Hurray! ;D 8-) It looks like a beauty, feels like a beauty, and hopefully catches fish like a BEAST!
  21. Are some of your new crankbaits Lucky Crafts?
  22. looks like you hit the jackpot! "early" christmas gifts i received/bought: 4 new baitcast reels 20 jigs about 10 crankbaits/jerkbaits 3 poppers 1 spinning rod 5 bags of soft plastics soft plastic hook kit 2 rattlebaits and now maybe another spinning reel combo
  23. The best thing you can do is to watch a video of a fleeing crawdad and try to imitate that. Same goes for any lure. For example, crankbaits. Watch a video of a fleeing or injured baitfish. Frogs/poppers/surface lures: Watch top-feeding baitfish, or a swimming frog. But then again, there are things like creature baits that really don't imitate anything (maybe ALIENS :), but those generally are fished to imitate baitfish or gigantic water insects rummaging on the bottom for algae. What's really hard to pinpoint are wacky-rigged worms.... well, i guess they imitate injured baitfish struggling to swim????
