  1. Sorry, i have to give 3: relatively clear water with sparse cover: shad with bleeding red hooks rel. clear water with heavier cover: Perch/Firetiger stained water: anything metallic and flashy these are definitely my go-to colors for these situations
  2. Rapala Jointed Shad-rap 2" version, red crawdad color next year, it'll probably be the jig n' pig or t-rigged plastic creature
  3. I use blue fox and mepps around the 1/8-1/4 ounce range. Usually use a red colored spinner.
  4. wow thx! i also sent you a PM with more questions. thx for helping me out
  5. They're pretty comparable. I've fished both with about equal success. Although i must admit i own 2x more xraps than pointers becuase they are half the price They're both of really good quality, and i guess it becomes personal preference and a financial consideration
  6. Anybody on this forum a mechanical engineer? until i hear straight from one that Quantum reels are flawed, i will stay brand loyal to Quantum. long live Zebco!!!!! ;D (but yea, i have a shimano spinning reel, and it seems pretty well built. But i would take my Quantum Energy PT over it anyday)
  7. My biology professor bass fishes, and whenever he catches an absolute hawg he wants to remember for the rest of his life, he simply makes safe homemade tags, and then attaches the tag on the fish. With this method, in his lifetime, he has recaught approx. 3, and he says he's sometimes to the point of crying from joy seeing the hawg becoming an even biggr hawg as time passes. If you absolutely want to have a sense of "owning" the monster fish you've just caught, simply attach and aluminum wire hook around the spinal fin of the bass. It won't rust off and won't hurt the fish (always use thin wire. the bass will heal in a matter of hours).
  8. I believe in most major boat accidents (like car accidents), the passengers are knocked unconscious. So if you're not wearing a lifejacket, you basically are left to drown slowly to the depths.
  9. Anybody used these before? how do you like them? thx
  10. thx you guys. i'm happy about my purchase now. I had the choice between a 6'6" MH or a 7' H ... but i decided that the MH rod would be more versatile, and i don't think i'll really need a rod as stiff as a billiard cue for the type of flipping/pitching/frogging i do. Now i need to get me some 20# braid
  11. I just bought a Medium Heavy Daiwa Tierra rod because i have no bc rod beyond M power. I fish mainly for smallies, and i only plan on flipping/pitching 1/4-3/8 jigs and throwing finesse frogs over pads. will a MH rod do?
  12. I personally wouldn't think so because the bay is full of lily pads and weeds, causing the bed to be all mucky and too soft for spawning???? idk
  13. do the bass spawn in the back of the UW bay area?
  14. it seems like they've taken it off their website, but i'm sure it's still available via catalog or phone call. no worries.
  15. totally agree. either KVD or RealMagic. Every fisherman should keep a can of this in their tacklebox/bag/boat. Works wonders everytime. as M.R pointed out, while you still have your line on the spool, spray KVD line spray on generously (enough to make it look like you've doused everything). Let it dry overnight, and you have new line again. it's amazing. For better results, strip about 25 feet of the old line and then spray.
  16. What I received/bought: 2 BPS johnny morris spinning rods 1 Quantum Catalyst PT spinning reel 1 Daiwa Procaster baitcast reel 1 Daiwa MegaForce baitcast reel 1 Quantum Accurist PT baitcast reel 1 BPS MegaForce baitcast reel 1 Okeechobee Fats tackle bag 200$ worth of lures and softplastics Yah, this is BEYOND BaitMonkey syndrome. This is........ CFTB (compulsive fishing tackle buying) syndrome But all's good
  17. those are nice kicks bro! and i love the shades too. All's spiffy
  18. Generally in my gamebook: Spinnerbaits: Heavier cover (brush piles, weeds, etc) Crankbaits: Lighter cover Lipless: Light to no cover (atop weedlines, etc) For flats, i generally use shallow crankbaits or jerkbaits (or wake a spinnerbait)
  19. ay! I use Yo-Zuri fluorocarbon on most of my rods for most situations. Unfortunately, they cost a bit more than monofilament, and i've recently found a stash of Stren mono under my bed, and when i change lines this year, it looks like i'll have to survive on mono this year.
  20. You should get rods before January 1 cause many companies are raising their prices due to the recent rise in graphite prices.
  21. BPS Bionic Blade 6'6" (trigger) BPS Johnny Morris Sig. (spinning) In the future, i'm planning on getting myself a G Loomis (trigger). Maybe once spring time and once i have enough money saved for it.
  22. After every season, i take my reels off and service them with lube in the inside, car wax on the outside to make them like new again. I clean my rods.... in the shower ;D... and give them a good scrub, especially with the cork/foam grips (mild soap... don't use anything too strong/abrasive). I make sure all my guides are smooth and clean by running a cotton ball dipped in rubbing alcohol through them. Occasionaly, especially for my high end rods, i spread some mink oil on the cork grips to condition them and keep them smooth. Then i hang them vertically on my rod rack. The reels go back into their boxes.
  23. http://www.***.com/descpageMEGABHARDMEGABTOP-MXPOD.html simple idea, but it takes the japanese to make the crazy thing ;D
