Any Va Members Fish Lately?
I might hit occoquan in the next couple of days, but I've been thinking about heading to west virginia for some trout, and smallmouth fishing too. Haven't decided yet.

yeah I've driven all the way out there to find that it is gated shut. lol. I haven't really fished that end of the res. I've got a small craft with just a trolling motor. I usually launch from bull run or fountainhead. I've got a buddy who's house backs up to the sandy run finger, but haven't launched from there yet. Hoping to explore that end a little this year. I fish on the other side of the dam too.

For those wondering the water temp on the occoquan res. I took off out of bullrun the other day. Temps were 45 in the main body, and near the launch before we took out it was 48 in the late afternoon. That was right before the cold snap. It was really windy too.

Nice fish. You launch from bull run or Lake ridge?

Spinnerbaits For Smallies
There are some hidden weight spinnerbaits that have a smaller profile by hiding a lot of the weight under the skirt. You can order them from this website, and make your own, or you can look for prepackaged baits shaped like this. http://lurepartsonline.com/Online-Store/Bass-Spinnerbait-Heads/Hidden-Weight-Spinnerbaits.html

Neighborhood lake in NOVA on a 5" swimbait. I'm hitting the occ res in a couple of hours when I wake up.

Nova Winter 2012
I caught this one in a small lake in the burke/fairfax area. I was using a 5 inch wake swimbait. I know a hidden gem in the area surrounded by townhouses that you can catch multiple fish this size in a day. Small lake that has little access from shore, but if you slip a little canoe in you can catch em all day this size and bigger!! It has a water fountain in it. lol. Best part about these little lakes is there are no pressure.

Occoquan Reservoir - Does Anyone Ever Catch Bass Here?
I started fishing the reservoir this year, and have learned a lot. I had heard that the fishing could be tough, but that there were some nice size fish in the lake. I found them on deep humps in the 15' range in the summer time.

Catching Big Fish Consistently
I live in northern virginia, and catch four pounders on the regular. At least every other trip, and I usually catch a couple if I catch one. I fish small neighborhood lakes for a couple of hours here and there. And on my days off, I will hit up some lakes and reservoirs near my house on my foldcat boat. I have taught myself to fish deeper this year with the addition of a cheap depth finder, and a small boat to my fishing arsenal. Before this year I mostly fished from shore, but still managed a big one here and there. I have had quite a good year as far as size goes. My first cast this year I landed a 5lber from the shore, so I knew it would be a good year. I am going to fish in the potomac for the first time in my boat tomorrow, and tuesday. Hopefully I can pull a couple of big girls out of there.

Bull Run Marina?
I just started to fish the occ reservoir this year. It is a tough place to fish, but thats what makes it so great. Most people don't come back after getting skunked a few times. Here is a great hint for the bull run launch. Start fishing right when you launch. The old bridge pilings hold fish. Same with the bridge right there. I had good luck fishing out of the Fountainhead launch last Tuesday. Two 5 Lbers in about 2 hours of fishing. They were both caught deep. Deep diving cranks have been working well for me, but my buddies have been catching them with soft plastics in the same areas. One bad thing about this lake is the d**n crew teams. Some days they are just everywhere. I just ordered a map of the reservoir, and can't wait to get it in the mail this week.
