I grew up on the C-100 canal that runs through palmetto bay/pinecrest. Used to go fishing and swimming in it OFTEN as a youngster. Every now and then if water from the canal got up your nose it was a guarantee youd have a little bit of a sore throat the next day. Other than that im still alive but questioning what the heck my parents were thinking letting me swim in that canal at the time! lol

I used to catch a pile of fish on a black worm with a blue stripe along the underside. I used to throw it during cloudy and overcast weather and tear the fish up.

I have never fished this lake but if it is lacking structure I have a suggestion you could try in the future. After Christmas go to the dump and collect everyones Christmas trees take them out to the lake and submerge them somewhere off shore. This will attract bass in a big way and you'll be the only one who knows they are there. You can do this with other structure but I have found Christmas trees to work excellent.

The falls canal capt shane is talking about is known as C-100 I grew up in one of the houses that is on that canal. There is good peacock bass fishing in that canal. Also if you still havent found them google map Lakes by the bay (Neighborhood in south miami) there are several nice lakes in that neighborhood that are loaded with big peacock bass. Get ya a silver rattle trap and throw that around all day and youll catch one but a shiner is like peacock bass crack.

Hey Glades, that canal your talking about that Shane fishes I swam across! Well halfway across anyway (long story). Talk about top 5 scariest moments of my life lol!! And I thought I was the only one who knew about that canal and then I met captain Shane and he was on tv fishing it and now you! What a small world. Haha

I used to fish non boater in tournaments all the time and learned that some guys are jerks and others are awesome. Some dont like it if you cast forward they only want you to cast from the middle point of the boat directly out and back. Also in some boater non boater tournaments the non boater gets the front of the boat and gets to travel to their spot for half the day.. I have never taken advantage of that and with gas prices the way they are I wouldnt expect him to drive me anywhere other than where he wanted to fish unless I was paying for atleast half his gas bill. Oh ya and dont let him front end ya!
