Right, gotcha - that part I get. The location (from your profile) however does not appear automatically - unless I'm somehow just being dumb I'm thinking the take-away here is this: "If you want your location to appear on your posts, you need to either add it to your signature or your personal text" I guess this just goes back to the original post on this thread - it would be cool if the location was surfaced somewhere in your posts automatically, instead of buried in your profile page. BUT, I don't mean to beat a dead horse, I'm fine with it either way. I'll let it go...

RW - I think he was saying it'd be cool if the forum software automatically pulled the "Location" value from your profile for display somewhere on your posts - be it under the avatar, in the sig, wherever. As far as I can tell, this isn't the case. In your example, you'd still have to manually copy your location into your signature...right? Or maybe I'm missing something?

Can anyone go into more detail here? For the life of me, I just can't skip cast with baitcasting gear - instant backlash. For normal casts, I'm good with a baitcaster, and my thumb is pretty educated. I can also skip really well (e.g, with senkos, flukes, etc.) with spinning gear. I just can't seem to figure it out with my baitcaster... Any further tips would really help. Thanks!

I think that it's been theorized to have been the same fish that was already caught twice previously (the "black dot on the cheek" thing) lends even more credence to the idea that releasing that bass was the "right" thing to do - given that there was such high doubt of it being certified as the record. What if it's not caught again soon (e.g., this year), and survives another couple of years and is caught again, even heavier? Assuming it's the same fish (just for fun), and it grew almost 5 lbs. in 5 years (from 20.75 in 4/2001 to 25lbs. in 4/2006), imagine it 3 years from now...potentially a whopping 28lbs. Wow!

One lure type I personally find difficult to cast sometimes (especially on a baitcaster) is a buzzbait. I don't know, it almost seems like that big wide/flat blade can catch the wind wrong and generate lift like a wing - such that it kinda goes up instead of out. Anyone else have that problem?

The bait monkey smacked me on the back of the head yesterday and demanded a new pair of prescription polarized Oakley's. Of course, I had no choice but to obey...glasses will be ready on 3/16. Sweet!

Some of my best days ever have consisted of fishing just after (like immediately after) a summer rain. One of the biggest bass I ever had on hook - and lost > - was in such conditions. I'm not talking about cold fronts here (for which I've had the complete opposite experience), just your basic summer sprinkle. I would definitely not let a little rain discourage you.

Hmmm. My personal-best largemouth is a 6-3. My PB smallie was a hair over 3 lbs. There was no comparison, as I remember it. I caught the smallie in a section of the Tennessee River that I was told (by a guide) also had some huge stripers - and no lie, for a second I thought that's what I had. My drag was screaming, and this fish just would not come up. Interestingly enough, it never jumped. An acrobat he (or she) was not. But to this day, that's the fightingest fish I've ever caught. I can't even IMAGINE what those hogs in RoadWarrior's avatar must have been like. I'm thinking a good analog might be...uh, tarpon?

Now, I don't know if the bed fishing I've done (mostly in small ponds, occassionally on banks of bigger lakes) has had ill effect or not, but a buddy of mine and I used to implement a "tag team" technique. The following assumes (like GobbleDog mentioned) the scenario where both the male (smaller) and the female (the HAWG) are both sitting on/near the nest: 1. Both anglers cast to/near the nest with suitable soft plastic bait, with the intent of getting the more aggressive male to grab it. I've found that either a lizard or tube (t-rigged) are tops for this. 2. Whoever hooks and lands the male first immediately takes him a good bit away from the nest to release him - I'm talking far away, like another corner of the pond, a couple hundred yards, whatever. This is important because that buck bass will immediately return to the nest and will bite again. If you drop him off far away from the nest, it'll take him a while to get back and you can focus on the (now alone) female. 3. The other angler focuses his/her effort on the big female now left to her own to defend the nest. If' you're lucky, she'll bite! Then of course, release her I've only done this twice, and it only worked out for us once. I wasn't lucky enough to catch the momma, but the male I did catch was nice 4lbs. or so. My buddy got the female, which was just under 8lbs. Tons of fun! -Rich
