  1. When I put together my frog setup I done it on the cheap. Cheap as in price. I feel the quality is there. Found a 7’1” Mojo 2 MH on clearance and I put a BPS Pro Qualifier LH 6.8 on it. The PQ can be had for $50.00 thru out the year. I’m not worth a dang at frog fishing but it has nothing to do with setup. Don’t dedicate enough time to it. Fun to catch and get strikes fishing like that. You probably want to buy something soon, the Lew’s is about $75, was $100. BPS has the Abu REVO S on sale for $65. Don’t own an “S” but crankbait fish with a couple of Abu REVO Winches. I have not had any problems with them. I use them a lot. Good luck frogging.
  2. I don’t fish very heavy jigs. 1/16-1/8-3/16 oz., a slow drag gets majority of my bites. I throw in quick twitches and hops. Crawdad.
  3. SunLine, XL, McCoy, Stren and Big Game mono I don’t have issue with these. I have a MH Slop setup with braid on it. About as far as I go on that limb.
  4. Be careful on there dude. I’ll do the lake on Thursday AM. Will be a mess there also but over the years I’ve pulled off some nice greenies fishing bank brush that get flooded some. Safety is my first thoughts but I try to be optimistic that I can pull off that nice one.
  5. I’m checking that out myself now. I have a 19 ft. aluminum Puddle jumper and trying to install Power Poles would be costly and probably overkill. Thought about installing the fiber Power Spike also. I have these gravel points and bars I’d like to spike into on the river.
  6. Nice mirror image photo.
  7. River is in poor condition. Not at flood stages but high, dirty and debris. Major rains within a few hours now. Lake area has been hammered real hard also. But should be fishable sooner than later.
  8. On the river I don’t think chrome is a deterrent. Bluegill, Shad and frog patterns work as does black, Whites and yellow. Do they (smallies and greenies) see the plug in color and an exact pattern? I know that I don’t know. But suspect they are reacting to a sound and silhouette shape of some type.

Mo, god bless you and your family. I’ll bet he comes out of it ok. Things will work out. A few fish with ya won’t hurt the situation.
  10. We have been getting lambasted with big rains and localized flooding over the last few days. Rain is much needed for the area but Severe damage from straight line winds and hail hurt some areas. I dodged a bullet here somehow. Suppose to start again later. I’m sure the river will be in a tailspin for a few days or more. But living close to the river I always stop pass the ramp to see how things are. Cricks and creeks seem to recover real quickly. River will be turbid. I hope you guys to the south of us are ok and safe. Your severe weather is generally wider spread and more damaging. The home front is more important than any bass.
  11. I still have it around a bright yellow Stearns. (35/36 years old) Pretty sure it’s a Stearns. My kids never tried to get out. Buckle front clips and a strap that runs up the crotch. I’m sure there were times we’ve had it at the shore and pools also for them. Be safe.
  12. I went into their (Lynx) site. Pretty impressive. For sure a commercial professional grade for sure. I’ll admit there was some sticker shock on price of them. But if these truly last 1/2 a lifetime or more. There is something to be said about them.
  13. I'm lucky enough to still have some of my fishing stuff from when I was a kid. Wish I would have been smart enough to stash it all away but wasn't. Made wall hangers out of some of it. My first trout creel basket was given to me used, it was in rough shape when given to me. Leather was pretty bad. I used it for a couple of years till i bought my own. As ratty as that was, with a few homemade fixes it had made to it, I wish I had it today.
  14. My kids are both into the Blackstones and Treager Smokers. I have to have a gas grill because there are certain things I don’t want done other ways. And convenience can’t be beat. But my cheap barrel Char-Griller/Smoker is flat out cooking fun and my favorite way to season up bone in chicken and do it up.
  15. These grilling posts and threads have my belly growling. Charcoal grilled burgers can’t be beat. My one daughter likes hers with crunchy grill marks.
  16. I can’t remember my first set up or what I was fishing with my first time. Was someone’s in the family. I still have (2) Shakespeare Wondercast push buttons from when I was 7-9 years old. Somewhere in that area. About 1967. By the time I was 10 or 11 years old I was truly trout fishing and it was with Shakespeare and Abu Garcia spinning reels. Still have those reels but rods are long gone.
  17. I fish them weightless rigged the same as you’d rig a fluke. Let them fall and twitch them. Like many baits them may be no wrong way to fish them.

I don’t think those hooks slots are critical. Other baits have them molded in as well. Especially craws. I wouldn’t over think those slots because your terminal tackle may vary.
  19. I have not seen this very often over the years. Do these algae blooms decrease oxygen levels in the water? Does heavy enough algae effect their gills? Do the fish move away from these conditions? I have not seen this condition too often.
  20. Small tubes, grubs, in-line spinners, ultra-lite Rapalas. These take Smallies on trout streams in my area. Not sure if others have noticed this in some of your creeks. Near me some creeks holding Smallies will not take anything but live bait (shiners). I’m pretty sure crawdads would work also. But you could throw lures all day without a hit. I generally don’t fish for bass with livebait. But if I want a quick trip down to the creek I throw on some waders and have a minnow pail. Smallies and nice size RockBass will hit.
  21. Over the last few days we have been getting hit with heavy showers and quick passing showers. River is not in any flood condition or high flow rates just heavy stained and low visibility. Fished some feeder creek mouth and storm drains managed a handful or runts. Lost as many as I boated. All on crankbaits and jerkbaits. Caught a 7 lb. Channel Cat on a brand new Berkley Hit Stick in FireTiger. But with current water condition and clarity, Shad, herring, gold w/blk, dark green and melon caught fish. Started raining at the time I was pulling the plug for the day. Expected it to rain at anytime during my time out. We are expecting unsettled rains for the need few days.
  22. I have to agree with you. I have to put bone in chicken in there also. I just made some killer burgers the other night on the Char-Griller. I believe the charcoals you use are half the battle for good taste. Adding some cherry, hickory and mesquite wood helps and enhances. I use the various Kingsford’s. The one that I’m the most disappointed has been Royal Oak. For a couple of reasons. But to each his own. Many choices. Different strokes for different folks.
  23. Beautiful place and view. Enjoy it bub. The trees can cause a lot of extra work but I would not trade it for open ground new construction. Couldn’t afford it anyway. I would not trade it. Grills are a dime a dozen in the full scheme of things.
  24. My neighbor has always been a gas Griller. Earlier in the year his wife came home with the Weber Kettle with the a custom color on it. She’s alway out there doing something different on it. Trying different mfgs of charcoals. Experimenting with direct and indirect heating. Cooking around the edges with it. She’s having a good time with it for sure. They last forever.
  25. Are properties are not identical but up here in PA I’m under a canopy of 100-130 foot oaks and hickorys. Have the humidity, moss and mold. I get pretty good air flow under them. Years ago I took off most of my lower limbs. That Char-Griller sure looks familiar. Mine is a beast as well. A yard bird cooking machine. Like to have 10 cents for every piece that came off of it. Found a broom handle out in front of the house a couple of weeks ago and made a new handle for mine. Not sure if you tried it yet, I’ve been using the Blues Hogs BBQ sauce and liking it. Never got into making my own. I’ve tried them all. I basically like them all honestly. My daughters and son-in-laws use these Treager smokers. Stuff does come out great. Good brisket. Smoking is not my strong point. My side smoker box for the Char-Griller works great for thick cut pork chops.
