  1. New Orleans, a suburban kid, who spent lots of time in the French Quarter with friends. But we fished all over southeast Louisiana, both fresh and saltwater. Love those redfish!!!
  2. Rods - 7-foot Medium Heavy Reels - 6:1 Line - Baitcaster 12 pound fluoro; Spinning 8 pound braid Basic set ups. Will change for specific conditions or if throwing a Carolina rig, etc.
  3. It is not necessarily the roads but the southerners who think they know how to drive in snow and ice being the problem.
  4. Thanks for the information.
  5. From Wxrisk.com on Monday, December 4, 2017: *** ALERT!** 0z MON op-GFS is MUCH STRONGER WITH southern LOW (not unexpected development ) and Low levels are colder for the event NEXT weekend -- 1PM DEC 8 to 1AM DEC 9... The 0z MON GFS drops 2-5" over northwest NC, most of VA southern MD, most of the Delmarva into Philly, then NJ, NYC, southern New England. If you plow snow or are in the snow removal business and you have no weather coverage because last winter was mild and we only had 1 big snow in 2015-16... then you need to wake up. Accumulating snow in early December is Often - not always - a sign of an active winter .... Feel to contact me at wxrisk@gmail.com
  6. The committee looked at the entire season and Ohio State got clobbered twice, once by the Sooners and then by the Hawkeyes. Bamasux lost only one game to a very good Awbunn team while they were still beat up from the LSU game. The down side is Bamasux's non-conference schedule that is a joke other than for a weak FSU team. The committee is alerting everyone that you don't have to be a conference champion to get into the playoffs. I personally don't like it, but I am not on the committee. Can't wait to see the point spreads. That Georgia-Oklahoma game will be a great one and the third game between Bamasux and Clepson should be fun. In other news, the LSU Fighting Tigers will be playing the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for the 12th time on New Year's Day. As usual, throw out the records and sit back for some hard hitting football. Its the Louisiana Catholics against the Northern Catholics. Geaux Tigers!
  7. We all love our school's bands. When you go to a college away or bowl game, it is best to stay in the hotel with the band. Band people are lots of fun and they know how to have a good time. At least the LSU band knows how to have a good time but they are from Louisiana where everyone has a good time. Here is an interesting video taken during the pre-game opening ceremonies in Tiger Stadium which gives you a totally different perspective of what the band does on the field. It is long so you may not want to watch the entire video. But it is very interesting to see and hear what the band sees and hears while on the field. Check out the cheerleaders at the end who get out of the way when the team enters the stadium. Just thought I would post something totally out of the ordinary!!!! Enjoy. http://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/entertainment_life/music/article_089be68a-d473-11e7-b2b6-9bfdac23bcc2.html
  8. Professional bass fishing is so much like NASCA where the guys and gals know each other and are outstanding ambassadors of our sport. This interview once again supports that statement. To hear what the guys think of the other guys is really insightful and funny.
  9. So how did you do?
  10. In Richmond we have "Three Chop Road" named for the Indian trail that it follows today. I would think other roads are named after old Indian trails. So come on guys, lets add to this thread the names of the roads or trails or parks where the Indians marked their trails throughout the United States and Canada.
  11. JB, let me try to remember the story of how coffee became an attractant to bass. Guys, please forgive me if I am a little off but I believe this is what I was told a few yeas ago. I believe it was Berkley that sent a research team out into the wild to do some research on their new products. During the trip, the guys brewed coffee and then threw the grounds overboard. They noticed that minnows were attracted to the coffee grounds. So being research people, they threw coffee grounds into the water a second time and guess what? It attracted the minnows. With this knowledge, the guys went back to their lab and produced the first coffee smelling baits and had DVD hawk them when they were released into the marketplace. Why coffee? No idea. But they do work. Not all the time, but they do produce strikes. Maybe someone out there has more details about coffee scented plastics. If so, please correct my story. Thanks.
  12. Bassin, first question to you: are the rivers tidal in any way? If so, you fish them based on the tides. Second question: what is the forage? Crawfish? Shad? Bluegills? Crappie? Bream? White Perch? You really need to find out. If you can't find out, then you have to experiment with different colors and types of baits. Third question: What feeds the rivers? A lake? Reservoir? Dam? Creeks? Long river expanding as it goes south? Each of these options presents different river conditions. Fourth question: What is the water temperature? Remember, you are entering into the bass' habitat and water temperatures direct the bass to feed for the winter; go deep; hold in shallows; hold in eddies; follow the shad into the creeks; and spawn. If we knew your location and the names of the rivers, or at least the state, we can give you better input. Any possibility of you adding your location to your avatar? It would really help us as our answers would be different if you were in Florida as opposed to Michigan. The answers above are all excellent. Try each. And please go to the Introduction section and introduce yourself. Glad to have you with us. Keep asking those questions and post pictures of your catches. Merry Christmas!
  13. What is the water temperature? Red Eyed Shad in Sexy shad, red Rat-L-Traps, white spinnerbaits, crawfish jig & pig, and shad crankbaits may be the answer. Or, if you can stand it, dead stick a finesse worm. Get back to us with the water temperature and we can probably give you some additional suggestions. Tom, don't forget that the mudbugs change to a beautiful red color when cooked for a crawfish boil!!!!
  14. Thanks, AJ and J. It is funny. Merry Christmas!
  15. Josh, it really boils down to confidence. The confidence you have in the line you are using. After fishing with a pro last summer, I switched to the 8-pound test Gamma Torque. The pro used a leader but I go straight to the bait, no leader, and have not seen any substantial difference in strike ratios. You will have to experiment with the different lines until you find the ones you like for each technique or bait. Remember, it has to do with the confidence you have in the line. Merry Christmas!
  16. 100% correct. Throw your craw imitations plus brown and green jigs. Give 'em a try and you may be surprised at the outcome. Welcome to the Forum.
  17. https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=central virginia lsu alumni chapter Only other school that looks worse than these Bama fans when they lose is Tennessee.
  18. Yes. At the Bassmaster Classic in South Carolina I had the wonderful opportunity to speak with the guys from Pure Fishing. Dr. Keith Jones did not make the trip but his staff did. A great bunch of guys. They showed me that fluorocarbon line does in fact stretch. Not as much as mono, but it stretches just the same. We then played around with the various rod power ratings, showing the difference between a light and heavy and all in-between. Us old guys like mono for treble hook baits while the new pros are going with fluorocarbon. Just another reason to attend a Bassmaster Classic in your lifetime. Fantastic event!
  19. This is the best interview Glenn has ever done. It is on the Forum's Facebook page. If you do not subscribe to it you are missing a lot of great information. This one will make you smile for the day. Enjoy and thanks to Glenn for thinking and then sharing it with everyone. It is his Christmas present to all of us. NOTE: Glenn, can you or one of the mods post the interview on the Forum? For some unknown reason I cannot post the link on this page and everyone will really enjoy it. You outdid yourself on this one. Thanks and Merry Christmas!!! http://***/2BfSGrg
  20. Mullen to Florida. Quite a surprise. Canada of LSU to ?????? Maybe yes and maybe no. UCLA got their man. Texas A&M has their sights on Dumbo Fisher, again. And Dumbo may be ready to make a move, now. Gus to Arkansas? Can't see it unless he wants to poke Awbunn in their eyes for spite. Ole Miss just retained their head coach as their head coach. And is Tommy Tubberville ready to move back into coaching? If so, will the Vols take him? What about Les Miles. He wants to get back into coaching. Stay tuned. It is going to be another year of musical college coaches changes.
  21. Shoes falling this weekend. Stay tuned. Expect around 15 to 17 coaching changes across the country.
  22. Sam replied to *Hootie's topic in Everything Else
Hootie, a number of years ago I got in line at the Ashland, Virginia BPS at 4:30 for a 5:00 store opening. The line was at least two blocks long when I arrived at 4:30 and it was growing longer by the minute. Finally got into the store and bought jeans for the family guys and checked out in the fishing department. No problem. No line at the fishing desk. The next year I did the same but the word was out on the fishing department so I headed to the hunting section. Waited over an hour to check out. Not doing that again, ever. Lesson learned.

We stayed home on Black Friday other than to run to Talbot's in the Stony Point Fashion Park to get our daughter-in-law her Christmas present. Have my double coupon from Bass Pro Shops for Black Friday and Saturday but don't plan to venture out into that madhouse. Look at all the money I saved.
  24. Nate, sorry but I have never fished that body of water. The guys who have are stuck in traffic and will be able to get back with you next week!!!!!!!!
