We have to modify our lipless cranks like the pros. First, upsize the front hook to a size 3 Gammy Extra Wide treble hook. Then, if you are fishing in structure or grass, remove the rear hook. I had stored one of my favorite Lew's spinning reels in my car during this year's hot spell in Richmond, not giving it much thought about damaging it in any way. So you can understand my confusion when the reel stopped working on a fishing trip last week. I took the reel to Wayne Knabe of Powhatan, Virginia, who does repair work and he knew the problem at once. Seems the heat buildup in the car caused some of the grease to "melt" onto the anti-reverse cylinder causing it to fail. Wayne showed me the "Do Not Grease" words written on the cylinder when he removed it. Wayne blew out the cylinder's area with a spray cleaner; wiped it clean; put the reel together; and she works like new. Never had this happen to me in the history of the world. Now storing all reels in the house to avoid the excess heat. Just thought you all would like to nice story today.

Forgot that I had placed one of my favorite Cavitrons on the rear bumper of my SUV and took off on some errands. When I remembered what I had done, I followed my path in the SUV and found it. It had been run over a few times and destroyed, but at least I found it. Had excuse to buy another one!!!

You are using a spinning reel so line twist comes with the territory. It is impossible to stop line twist, but you can minimize it. Try using 100% braid for the entire setup. No leader. No swivel. No spin shot. By doing this you eliminate the weak spots in your line setup. A pro told me to use braid in lieu of fluorocarbon or mono for drop shotting and flipping and pitching and so far it has worked beautifully. Make sure you are spooling your spinning reel as suggested on this site, making sure the line goes onto the spool in a counter clock-wise direction. Try using line conditioner of your choice when spooling the line onto the reel. The guys will give you other suggestions to try so do what they suggest, too. Just remember it is not you or your technique causing the problem. Line twist is a part of fishing with a spinning reel setup.

For bank fishing, you can hit the pond at Sky Meadows State Park on Route 17, just south of Route 50. The pond is not fished very often and you will be the only one there. Not sure if you have to pay a parking fee. Check it out.

I lost my second Whooper Plopper on the Chickahominy River this weekend to go along with the one I lost the previous Sunday. And yes, they can be bass magnets. Now to force myself to hit Green Top or BPS and replace the ones I lost. How did I lose them? By casting too close to the bank at low tide. I could not get the boat close to get them unsnagged. Hate to write it, but Bamasux is looking very strong and they should go undefeated until the SEC championship game in December. At that time they are expected to take on Georgia. However, I think Bamasux will prevail and be ranked first in the playoffs. Yes, any team can lose at any time, but with only LSU being the one team that could give them fits for the rest of the year it looks like Satan may get another crown. And of course, you still can't rule out Awbunn as when they play Bamasux anything can happen. Isn't college football great or what????? Geaux Tigers!

Yep. Syracuse drove LSU nuts before the Fighting Tigers held on to a 35-26 victory. Of course, LSU committed suicide the next game by losing to Troy, which I find to be funny. The Clepson-Syracuse game was entertaining. The LSU - Awbunn game may be fun. Be sure to tune in although a day game in Tiger Stadium sucks big time. We like to play in our white jerseys at night. A friend and I hit the Chick River on Sunday, October 8th and did pretty good. The weather was overcast and we got caught in a small shower. Overall we caught about 15 and lost around 20. The bass were not aggressive and one jumped over the frog, missing it entirely. Lots of short strikes and misses plus a bunch of plastics stolen by those green devils. Very little traffic on the river as the weather kept the personal watercraft away and there was only one tournament out of Route 5. All in all we had a frustrating but fun day.

LIGHTER TEST THE DEEPER YOU CAN PUT THE BAIT AND IF THE TEST RATING IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROD'S PARAMATERS THE LONGER WILL BE YOUR CASTS. NO, YOU HAVE EXCELLENT SENSITIVITY WITH BRAID. Also, I imagine using heavier test Flouro would allow less stretch during hook set, but noticeably less? - I also understand that once stretched, Flouro doesn't tend to return to its original length. Could I just unspool a new roll of Flouro and give it a good 'pre-stretching' before using it on the water? What would be the ill affects of this if any? - WHEN YOU STRETCH THE LINE YOU WEAKEN IT.
