When the salt water breaches up into the Historic James River and the Chickahominy River the crabs can drive you nuts with their nibbling on plastic baits. They love Senkos, too. So you may look like a fool trying to set the hook when a crab takes your bait but as said above and to quote Hank Parker, "hooksets are free." Otherwise, when concentrating and feeling for anything on the bottom, false hooksets come with the territory. Better to look silly setting the hook with nothing on your line then to miss your personal best because she did not hit your bait hard.

This weekend Dave says not to believe the American model (GFS) as it is incorrect. The European model has the hurricane traveling up the Atlantic coast line and heading out to sea with no landfall. The American model has a Cat 5 storm coming ashore around North Carolina and the Virginia Tidewater areas and then heading into the Midwest. Let's all hope the European model is correct and the American model is totally wrong.

Yep, here we go again. Pay attention to the storm heading towards the Atlantic coast this week. And it could be a big one. I have plans to attend the Richmond NASCAR race on September 9th and hopefully by that time the storm will be headed into the Atlantic. Dave at Wxrisk.com seems to lean towards Hurricane Irene hitting the South Carolina or North Carolina coast line. Stay tuned.

As we close out Summer 2017 things are very busy. That being said here is what you NEED to know ---this weekend we will face the remains of what was once mighty hurricane Harvey. Harvey's remains will move into Middle Atlantic region Friday night a...nd Saturday and bring widespread significant rains to all areas. Now many of you are going to read that and begin to freak out or become anxious. So let's be clear about this. The KEY phrase here is " REMAINS OF HARVEY". We are not talking about high winds and we are NOT talking about widespread devastating flooding in NC VA WVA MD DEL etc. But if you have plans Friday night and / or Saturday whether it is at the beach or the mountains ...you need to know that those plans and most outdoor activities are in serious trouble. Fortunately the holiday continues Sunday and Monday and those days look a lot better

Please find out the name of the best orthopedic in your area and get the work comp carrier's permission to see him so his bills will be covered. Shoulder injuries don't heal fast and they can be difficult to repair. Get the best ortho around. Good luck and sorry about the accident.

Glue. You can glue the strands together to stiffen them. Use some strong fast drying glue and don't glue all of the strands together. Glue as many strands together as you wish to have the consistory you desire.

Do you have an oar? Or a heavy pole? Take an oar or pole with you to the pond and open areas in the pads about one foot by one foot or two feet by two feet along and out from the bank. Be sure to remove the pads as best you can or open them up as best you can. Then come back in an hour or two or a day and then drop your baits in the holes you created. They will go back together so do what you can to keep them separated. I would suggest getting in the pond and removing the pads by hand but that could be dangerous. Do this with a friend in case you get into trouble. Pads can be a challenge. Be careful when dealing with them.

I think in Colorado they are smoking pot. OK, just kidding. They need cover and if there is no structure they will use the water as cover and go down to the thermocline. You need to consider a Carolina rig. If the bottom has very little structure, try the Ned rig. The farther out you can go you will find them in deeper water. Also, can you get to the pond before sunrise? If so, hit it with topwaters as they wake up and have breakfast. Let us know how you do.
