kaotic1, Don't get frustrated and try not to over cast these. I just tought my 11 year old son to baitcast. Stick to cheap mono like NBR said. Keep your spool control on the tight side if needed. With much practice you be a pro in no time. I tought myself, Long before internet and the advice given here is spot on. One last note is patience and smooth easy casts to start.

I am an old Abu round baitcaster guy. They have been in my boat for many years and still have the first one I bought. Just bought my first Revo winch. Spinning has been with the same old snap shot since the early 90's I have an old shimano BC too. Just hated paying for them. An the latest have us lefties out in the cold with the gear choices. So have most of the others as well!

Hello folks, Nice place you have with a wealth of info. I am enjoying much of the reading here. I have been bassin for about 17 or so years now. Me and my 11 year old son go out as much as we can. We have a small boat and stick to the smaller waters in NW CT. Both of us are baitcaster's(my son started last year and picked it up much faster than pops). I throw Abu and have for years. I have mostly round's. But a good old T3000c lowpro I just love. My latest is a Revo winch for deep crankin. And for the Shimano fans. Yes I have an old one of those 2 My son who has been fishing since about birth is a huge KVD fan, So he's eyed the Quantums. His favorite so far is the KVD signature we got at BPS. Second is his Code. He also has a few U.S. Reel's but they are going to be peddled on fleabay soon! Again great site and thanks for having us!

First time posting= forgive if this was asked/answered before!! :-) I was thinking of getting a 2011 Revo SX to put on my Vendetta VTC73-6 7' 3" MH moderate action rod. I currently have a 2009 Revo winch. But really I hate it doesn't match the rod. So I would like to mod the SX with 5.4:1 gears. What I need is the part numbers for the lh gears and a place I can get them pretty reasonable(I'm a cheap skate)? I have read the older SX would require 1138198 gears. But I know the new 2011 SX has the Infini II™ spool and requires the same gear as the STX. If I am not mistaken the STX would need 1138197 gears. But I think these numbers are for the Righty reels??? Second question: What has been the users experiance with the SX and light crank's. I have never used the mag brake system and need some input. I have been throwing Abu's for years and all my reels have the centrifugal brakes. Most are the older round reels. But I do have an early T3000C with centrifugal only braking. Its on my homemade Carolina rig/Swimbait setup. Any user input on the mag brakes would be great and TIA! Too bad Abu doesn't offer the SX with the same dual system as the STX. Or an STX with the same color scheme as the SX.
