Us Reels? Anyone Try Them
My son and I tried a couple 600's and a 700. I wore mine out it a week of hard fishing. OK for a beginner IMHO. Serious fishing kills them to easy.

Baitcasting Reel Wont Spin The Spool
"Man I feel like an idiot." Your learning! Your only an idiot if it gets you the second time around!

Oh Well, It "only" Lasted 22 Years ...
I bought my 6' lighning(spinning) rod in 88 and its still 100%(less some nicks and scratches). Its been so lucky for me I always take it along. Love the yellow tip that glows in the dark too! My 1st rod with EVA grips. I wonder what berkley would say if you contacted them? Edit: My spinning rod is a power pole. My lightnin rod was my first BC for CR/TR worms. Getting so old can't remember what I have lately or just plain have to much to remember them all! hehe!

Do You Use Only Baitcasters Or Spinning Or Both
Both! Spinning mostly for weightless plastics

New Rod 7'3 Vendetta
I bought the same rod(Vendetta VTC73-6) but found it too stiff for crankin. Kept pulling hooks out of the fish. Better suited for swim baits or jerking IMHO. But I'm also used to having a limber cranking rod.

How Much Spool Tension Do You Use?
Calm days as little spool tension as possible. 2 to 3 brakes on(mag at zero if equiped). Once the wind picks up I use the tension(and mags) to my advantage. While my partner is pickin birdnests, I'm boating as many fish as possible! DVT nailed it IMHO!

3Rd Try Abu Premier
AFAIK, The only part of the brake system that effects the end of the cast is the magnetic part. There is no metal to metal contact. But as the spool is torqued towards the magnets, There is a chance for the spool to rub the metal magnet sheild. But that chance is pretty rare. It should leave visable scratches/scrapes on the shield or spool. Personally I think Abu's supplied oil isn't all that dandy. I would try something else. Maybe some of the other members can recommend something to try?

3Rd Try Abu Premier
Checking the Abu manual states to clean and lube after each use. Also states failure to do so will void the warranty. I have fished my STX hard for 2 to 3 day weekends before doing the clean and lube with no issues. The average user could go longer between lubes. But if you fish them hard, I think most reel makers will recommend proper lubing. I get about the same use from my Shimano E7 as the STX. My Shimano will tell me it needs lube just as the STX. A dry bearing will squak no matter what brand reel its in! Are you comparing $500 plus dollar Diawa's to a less than $300 Abu?

3Rd Try Abu Premier
I'm not sure its the brakes, They are spring loaded on the Premier AFAIK. Being spring loaded they should retract at the end of the cast. I'm betting its a dry bearing? I lube my spool bearings(on my stx) with a drop of oil after every outing and work it in. Then wipe off the excess. The infini spool also contacts the pinion support shaft. You will see a little dimple on handle side of the spool. I put a small amount of light drag grease. Use a tooth pick or tiny screw driver. I plan to highly polish both the spool dimple and the pinion support shaft once I do my year end service. My STX reel is brand new this season. Let me know if this helps?

New Shimanos At Tackle Warehouse
On a brighter note. Looks like the lefties get a few more gear options. We even get a crankin ratio from the CH201E5. These Chronarch gears should fit the Curado E7's by what your all saying. If the posse' is that ticked(I think we need to hear from some more of them)? It might give the other companies a bigger market share. But I don't see it myself. I see more chronarch being sold. I personnally hated the Curado green anyway. I'd pay a few extra bucks to have something other than that butt ugly green thing. Time will tell, But having some extra gear ratio's in their line up for the lefties might just get some of use older Shimano ex buyers back as well. JMHO! There are lots of reels out there for the scorn!

Right Or Left
Left on spin and baitcast for the most part. I do have some right hand baitcasters that I use for carolina/texas rigging. So its basically right hand for anything I have to wait on the sink(plenty of time to switch hands). I use the lefties for cast and go mostly. I cast everything with my right hand. I do feel I get harder hooksets with the rod in my left hand though. The main reason for right hand reels on the rigged set ups. The most important thing is to do what feels comfortable to you. Not what the rest of use do. Another thing you will find is a big hole in some reel line ups for the lefties. There is definately a better selection in the right handers. Some manufacturers have no lefties at all. Some have them in a limited gear ratio selection. Just a few have the the lefties in all gear ratio's! BPS is one AFAIK.

Good Medium Priced Baitcaster
I own the Shimano 201E7, BPS PQ and a couple others. The Shimano's are nice if there in your budget, But the BPS PQ is an outstanding value. I have used the Abu STX and think the BPS PQ isn't far behind that and for what they cost(less than $100). I say a nice deal. But then so is the Shimano 200E7 for $123 give or take. You would be happy with either IMHO! But if I was forced to choose just one? I'd say the BPS PQ because it handles lighter baits a bit better.

Shimano Citica Ci201E Or Curado Cu51E
Took the ride to Cabela's this afternoon. I didn't like the feel of the CI201E. The CU51E felt OK, But for the about same money the CU201E7 seemed to be the best deal. Checked out the bargain cave and they had an open box CU201E7 for $90.00. My lucky day! Heck I figured if it didn't work I could put it on fleabay and probably make a buck or 2. Spooled, mounted and headed to the dock for some test casts. Smooth feel and easily burns/wakes the SB no problem. If I keep my head in it I can slow roll ok. Much easier to buzz with it and should make for an easier day on the water when buzzin/wakin. The CU201E7 will do just fine. Thanks guys!

Shimano Citica Ci201E Or Curado Cu51E
Thank you both for the replies. I will have to make a trip to my local Cabels's and fondle both models. But before I do I will mount a 7.1 to 1 HS(not mentioning brand) to my SB rod and see how it goes. I can wake most SB with my present 6.3 to 1 reel and easily buzz all day long. Again slowing down is tough for me!

Vendetta Heavy
What reel do you have on the Vendetta? Is it the weight or the balance getting to you is the reason for asking.
-
First Baitcaster
Also don't fill the spool to the brim, Try 2/3 to 3/4 full. A full reel usually equals a mess when starting out.

Shimano Citica Ci201E Or Curado Cu51E
I edited my post to be more specific. I can start off slow, But typically end up fishing too fast. So the lower gears help! It would be easier for me to switch to a RH reel. Only reason I mention the Citica 201e is BPS has them marked down to $99.88. I have seen the Curado 51e for around $140 or so. Curado in green will also take some getting used too! Green=Uggg! Life was much easier when I only had one rod/reel combo in the boat. :-)

Cranking Line?
I have no trouble getting them deep with mono. Plus one for Sufix Seige! But I will also use FC in clear water! I own both the Revo winch(5.4:1) and a pro qualifier(4.7:1). Can't beat the pro qualifier for the money spent. Its basically the same reel inside for much less cash. Both get the job done with DD22's and 6XD's though. If you plan on just one.crankin rod. I think the PQ handles the lighter baits a bit better. The winch has a more solid feel and the longer handle makes cranking the big ones a bit easier. There are loads of deep crankin reel choices out there(if your a right handed). It really depends on how much $$$ you want to spend!

Shimano Citica Ci201E Or Curado Cu51E
Looking to replace my Shimano Coriolis. I never really liked the fit and feel of this reel. It steered me away from the shimano's. Gonna give them another shot! It will be primarily used for spinner baits on a 6' rod. I have 2 questions. Which is more durable? And is there much difference between the 2?? Unfortunately, I will have to purchase this over the net. Not one dealer carries Shimano in my little town. I hate buying site unseen and could use a test drive. The reason for my asking. TIA Edit: to be more specific=Citica CI201E Or Curado CU51E

Revo Mgx
Price is out of my league. No left hand models. Only HS Gear ratio's. But what a sweet looking reel!

How Many Of You Cast Bc Gear With Either Hand?
I only cast with my right hand. But I can retrieve with either. When I want to speed fish(like crankin deep) I use the lefty reels. This eliminates the hand swapping. When I slow down I go with the RH reels where hand swapping is less of a speed/time wasted issue.

Vendetta Tip Repair
I just use super glue(gel version) on the tips. If you prefer hot glue use the high strentgh version. Braking off the tip section will not effect the rods strength, But it will effect its action. If it was a fast action it will now more likely be extra fast. What will effect its strength is if the rod has been nicked in other places. You will know the first time you load the rod! If your gonna toss them in the pickup, May I suggest rod sleeves/savers?
