  1. I also bought my son a Citica g 200g5(he didn't want a white or green reel ???). He's a right hander so we had more options for him!! We tuned it up some with the extra bearing under the crank shaft. Added the smooth drag washers. A bit of polishing and some abec 5's on the spool. He's very happy with it and he's chucking the brutes on his powell(same as mine). We both beat the daylights out of them for a solid 8 hours with a half hour lunch break. No issues with either. We'll be back out tomorrow and with the water temps still hovering close to 80ºF. I think we'll get to use them hard again. A little lube on the bearings tonight and some thin grease on the break ring. They will be ready for action. MarkH024, let me know what you think once you use yours? But i bet you love it too!
  2. I finally got a chance to use my Chronarch yesterday(played hookie from work). Very impressed with it and its casting distance. I used it on my Powell Diesel Glass 7' MH. Threw some DT-16, 6XD's, DD22's all the way down to some DT-6's. No issues with 2 brakes on and loose as a goose even with 20 MPH winds. Still waiting on my CVCC70MHB, But hopefully it will compare to the Powell.
  3. Same here. About the same for me, I will throw some 3/16 jigs with my BC.
  4. I absolutely love cranking! I own both the Revo winch and the Shimano Chronarch 201e5. I would call it a draw between them. Both reels will throw big baits with ease and pretty loose(cast control) even in a good wind. Both handle DT16, 6XD and DD22's with little strain on the user. DT6, shad raps and SK 3 series required them both to be tightened up in windy conditions. A note: I used them both on the same rod with the same line so both had a fair shot. I'll give the 201e5 the longer cast honors, But the winch had the least stress on the user after a long day of cranking. Dislikes for the winch are the crummy knobs on the handle(easily swapped out once the revo shop stuff is available) and the 201e5 was the white paint job. Very minor in my book and actually am very pleased with both. I couldn't choose between the 2 myself! If you plan on throwing monster baits these two are the tops IMHO. Honorable mention is the Crazy cranker by Diawa, but much more $$$! If you are only planing on throwing medium cranks? Then by all means add the PQ to the mix(I own one as well). It does fine with the light to medium baits, But its a bit tougher on the user when throwing the monster stuff. You get a workout for sure! But the dual braking is more forgiving when tuning for the lighter baits. The new gen3 winch with its dual braking might be worth the wait, Could be good for all around. Dual braking for the lighter baits, Plus the low gearing and extended handle to cope with the monsters. Just my thoughts(yeah, I'll be getting a new winch next season). Lew's could also be a good option, But I haven't researched them because I'm a lefty.
  5. Convergence Crankbait CVCC70MHB is on the way.
  6. I just couldn't take it, All this Chronarch chatter! I just had to!! I have me a 201e5 on the way! Gonna take some getting used to the white, But better than the Curado green! Now off to figure out what rod to get??
  7. Even my crankin rods are dedicated. I currently have 2. 6'10" M/F for squarebills/lipless, 7' glass MH/Mod fast for medium cranks. Soon to add a 7'9" glass just for deep divers(16' plus).
  8. Pretty darn impressed with my 7' Powell Diesel! Got my eye on a 7' 9" Phenix Glass Crankbait for deep cranks! Hoping to hear reviews from some other members?
  9. I'd have to go with the rod I catch the most fish on during the season. Worm/jig. Its also the combo I spent the most cash on! Rod Abu Garcia Verdict 7.3 MH fast reel Abu Garcia Premier RH 6.4:1(very tempted to replace with an MGX come spring) Line 12 mono in shallow grass. 30LB Spiderwire w/FC leader in wood/deep grass/reeds/pads But if you look carefully in the boat there would have to be a crankbait rod and a spinnerbait rod hidden, Along with my spinning rod I use for dropshots! I have never left the dock with no less than 4 rods. Just can't do it, Fished way to many years on a budget with 1 or 2 combo's and I don't have to these days. I'm also not as brand loyal as I used to be. I do like a matched pair, But you will find some Abu, Ardent, Diawa, Shimano and BPS in my arsenal! Lew's could be added too!
  10. Subscribed for entertainment! Wow, LMG! Where's reverse?
  11. I haven't checked the price on the MGX handle. But I bet its close and comes with the EVA grips already. I prefer the aluminum myself and have been getting Premier handles for $38 and change. Now I can opt for just the EVA grips. Im also in for at least one of the extended handles.
  12. That's good to hear. I have been checking them out, But the ones that interest me aren't in left hand. LMG, I'll break the ice for ya! I'm surprised there isn't more comments on the Chronarchs? If I was to brag on an "S" reel this would be the one. Next TW sale, I'll be in for a 51e and a 201E5!!
  13. After the snoopy pole, I started my son(then 5) with a 5' 6" Ugly stik and a Shimano IX1000 spooled with 6 pound mono. Durable at a modest price! He still uses it today for a pond or bank fishing plastic's rod. He's 12 going on 13 and tossing BC like the bigboys now! Been using BC since he was 10.
  14. The spool would still work(need to rewind the line though). But the side cover will need to match dexterity. You only use the parts from the S cover and swap them over to the SX cover. Or if you want a killer sx use the winch spool and side cover parts. Add the gears, handle and star. Pricey? yes, I just didn't like the winch blue. I should also note it applies only to the gen1 SX. Gen2 requires the gen1 pinion gear or gearset because on the infini spool using a different pinion gear in the gen2. Forgive me I'm old and forget things!
  15. I have both gen1 and 2 sx's and the gen2 is bit better. Gen3 is supposed to be even better. A side note! You can convert the gen1 to gen2 with simple parts from abu. I bet the gen3 stuff will work on the gen2's, But won't know until I try. But that's a ways off! I seen a thread where a fella used some parts from an S to make his SX a centrifical braking. You'll need an S spool and side cover to convert. If you wanna play.
  16. That's exactly why I bought mine and now another. I wanted something in between. I couldn't swing 2 $280 dollar reels. So I went this route. For what I spent on the Ardents, I am not complaining at all. I guess I didn't word my post right or add enough to it!. I have found that spending some time(in the off season usually) with the lower priced reels(proper service and some simple tuning) can liven up these reels. Same as what I did to my Citica E series(you'd be surprised at what a trick or two does to those!). So I can probably get this thing close to the silky smooth I'm looking to get for far less money. A couple of bearings here and there does wonders to them. I won't even get into what a supertune might do. If I had the cash, I'd like to try one of the Elite series. Just to see what their top shelf stuff is like. These tournament reels have the same chasis as the upper series reels. So the bearings and other parts are drop in's. Nice to have big brother to steal from to add a few tricks up your sleeve. I really have high hopes to what it could be with some TLC and big brother parts. We shall see!
  17. I have been using one for about month(4 to 5 trips). Using it for medium cranks and so far it's been holding up very well. It does cast a DT10 over 75 yards pretty easy on a 7' Powell diesel. I haven't thrown any light stuff with it and don't expect it to do much with them. Built like a tank IMHO. I am having fun beating the daylites out of it and so far its taking all I can give it! Just picked one up for my son to play with. My only complaints are the lever to open the side cover digs into my palm a bit. Its smooth, But not silky smooth like my Revo Premier. Some of this smooth issue could be fixed when I service it this fall.
  18. Bassn Blvd, I'm in the same boat. What did you end up getting and how do you like it?
  19. I pack all the low speed bearings with grease. I can fish them for the whole season and only need to lube the spool bearings as needed. When I used oil on them, I was having to tear into them a few times a season to re-oil them. A trick I got from someone who puts his hands on more reels in a week than I do all season long. To me the reel will stay smoother, also stays quieter much longer and less fiddling on my part.
  20. I probably should start my own thread, But seeing we jacked the heck out of this one I'll continue here. I got home from work and the crankshaft bearing I ordered arrived. I tore into it and replaced the bushing with the bearing. The bushing was very dry and I also noticed the pinion support bearing had some brown stuff coming out of it. I flushed it out with mineral spirits. I packed greased in both the bearings. I assume this is where the sluggishness came from as the bearing was somewhat hard to turn it. Not to mention the dry crank bushing. Put it back together an hit the dock for some casts. Still not as smooth overall as the e or even the same feel. But much better now. I'll get some smooth drag washers and a set of abec 5, 7 or Boca spool bearings. So some super tuning should liven these up a lot! I'll be hitting up my bud for his barely used Curado g and order up some goodies for that too!
  21. The Caenan body is graphite, But the design is the same. We'll I can't see much difference between them.
  22. I like them both, Pretty much the same reels inside,. The PQ has some nice option like dual braking and multiple gear options thats handy for the user. About the only plus is the S has an aluminum crank side plate where the PQ has graphite.
  23. I own over 20 reels(I can't afford to send them out for service!) and also service my sons along with several friends. I was a little timid on tearing into them and I am mechanically inclined. I found keeping the parts in the exact order during tear down helps to keep me on track. Once you get in them, They aren't all that complicated. Watch the vid's and if your still shaky, Pick up a cheap tag sale reel to practice on. For the most part the average angler only needs to do a service once a season, But lubing the spool bearings should be done every couple of outings. Also smearinng some light grease on the outer race where the centrifical brakes rub on. My exception is on my crankbait reels that get a solid workout all day. Long casts and burning baits back to the boat are he!! on a reel. I service them a couple times a season to keep them smooth and casting as far as possible. Also keep an eye on the line guide paw/rack and add some grease as needed. I'll add a tooth brush for cleaning the gears and some Q-tips for absorbing unwanted oils if you use too much(don't whip -Just use it to suck up the oil). Some cheap gloves if you prefer not to get greasy. I also keep a magnet handy for finding dropped screws. A magnifying glass if your challenged at seeing small items. If your going to Send a reel out for supertuning, Be sure to ask what lubes are used and where so you can keep it running smooth. Try not to mix lubes, Specially on the spool bearings. If you need to change to a different lube, Be sure to flush out the old lube first.
  24. I have been fishing a 7' Berkley lighnin IM6 since the late 90's(my first BC) and it still performs as new. I have only changed a guide and a tip because I dropped it. I also have a Power pole(spinning) since the late 80's. Pretty decent stuff for the money.
