  1. Gotha, I'll be sure to do a good touchy feely before the purchase. Looks have me sold, But its a lot of cash for something a supertuned 50e can rival. Maybe I'll just give my 50e a paint job?
  2. It doesn't seem to be the spool bearings. It seems draggy/sluggish even with the spool removed. Once the new crank bearing arrives(couple more days) I'll dig deeper into it.
  3. I have done all that. Its something I just do since reading DVT's and Proreel's posts(from another forum). I guess the Curado/Citica E ruined me. So I was looking for more. I do have the crank bearing on order and I also have been eyeing spool bearings upgrades. I may try to swap the spool with a Curado G to see if it helps first. I'm sure I can barrow the Curado from my bud for trials. I'll do some diggin!
  4. I am surprised to hear that, I've been drooling all over them. Seems everytime I have enough in the kitty something comes up. I enjoy my 50e for light plastics, And I assumed the core would be just that much better.
  5. LMG, I'm willing to give my citica g another try. Point me to a thread or article on supertuning(or should I start my own thread?)! Tell me what parts I can use from an E as well! I'll take it out and beat the chit out of it. If it stands up, I'll take a swing at a buds Curado g thats just sitting on the shelf. I can score it for a song. Sorry for jacking the OP thread!
  6. I use a 7' rod for shallow and medium cranks and a 7 1/2' for deeps, But have used a 7' rod in the past.
  7. I perfer a moderate action for cranks and a fast action for T-rig. Something with a medium fast action would be somewhere in the middle. But you'll probably need to curb you hooksets with cranks if you start missing a lot of fish.
  8. LMG if your not a salesman? You should be!
  9. If your cheap like me, You can carefully bend the star drag on the older reels. Use a cresent wrench with a few layers of duct tape stuck to the jaws to avoid scratches.
  10. http://www.bassresou...imano-g-series/ The Curado e is a twin to the chronarchs. No? We'll from your post in this thread. I see you might have done some back pedaling. That's OK we know your slightly biased about Shimano. A proud posse member. I used to be too, So don't get me wrong here! You'll have a tough time getting me to part with my 50e. I'm thrilled with my supertuned citica 201E6 as well. Probably should have kept my 201E6 Curado. I'm not as thrilled with the g's. Maybe a supertuned/upgraded one would change something? Once I sell my old boat I'll be able to get some new stuff. I'll start with a Chronarch 201E5 for my medium cranks for now. Maybe a Core 50mg if the boss doesn't notice. There will be a few other brands mixed in JIC. The new Daiwa Lexa is looking good in its price range. And I just have to try one of the new Revo's(probably the winch). My son wants the new SX. Now if Shimano want to sponser me, Then I'd be too!
  11. 1. Using a baitcaster is NOT as scary or hard as some make it out to be. I watched videos on youtube and checked out the forums and articles to make sure I was well prepared to set the reel up. I had no problems with it whatsoever. Some get scared away because they approach it like spinning/spincasting where you use max effort to get the lure out there. You need to have patience and subtlety with a BC reel. Smooth easy casting will get the job done. Usually when you try to force a cast is when you get the overrun. As Bluebasser86 say practice and you get the balance in finesse/power to cast farther than a spinning setup. 3. Baitcasting does not work well for light baits. This stinks because I get less tired using a BC. The exception is light baits. BC need a lure with some weight behind them. Master the heavier stuff before you attempt throwing a finesse setup like weightless plastics. But I do recommend getting a BC reel that is designed to throw finesse baits. They usually have a better spool designed to do this. Bassresource has a nice vid on finessing with some good pointers. 4. However, right hand is a bit sore from the pressure put on it while casting sidearm. Holding rod too tight perhaps. As you use different muscles, it may hurt some. As you get better at it, You'll learn to load the rod which should make it less painful. As you go you will relax more. Just make sure your not doing something wrong(Without watching you cast, I can't be to specific). Look at some of the vid's on youtube. 7. I must figure out how to cast a bit further with the BC. I may need to drop my line to a 10 lb and while my reel is very nice, it only has 3 + 1 bearings and is not very smooth. I bought this one because it was the only lefty in my price range ( I can right hand and retrieve left hand). That will come in time, Just dont force things. Dropping a couple a pound test will only give you a few feet more in distance. You should get more distance as you progress. I'll second what sam said in #8. Upgrade to something better once you confident a BC is for you! They more expensive reels are more refined in general. You'll probably get more distance as well.
  12. I personally don't think the Lew's will be as good as the 50e with finesse type baits. Its hard to beat a 50e without spending more. You'd have a hard time getting me to give my 50e Curado up. Its become my dedicated finesse bait reel. It will throw larger baits just fine, But I have it matched to a ML rod that doesn't.
  13. That pretty much nails my feelings too! Cheap it is!!
  14. I'd like to hear what the other members that have fished both the E and G series have to say. Its not just the bearings in the handle IMHO. The G's just feel like a Caenan in sheeps clothing. Plus the Caenan's reliability has been less than steller. I'm actually afraid to fish my G series(both citica and curado) all that hard! Will they fail like the Caenan's? Might explain why the E series Curado's are selling for more(on ebay) now than they did before! You might have a pot of gold if you have a new in box(unused) Curado. I sold a used one for close to what I paid for it new.
  15. Same here, I loose less fish with a moderate action. I suppose an angler that can reduce the power of his hook set may get by with a faster action/stiffer rod. My reaction on the strike is to do the same with the other techniques I fish. Drive the hooks home and hard. With a stiffer rod I pull to many hooks from the fish! But I'm old and spent a lot a years behind a glass rod. I didn't get my first graphite until the mid 90's. You had to jerk hard to compensate when fishing with glass(jigs/T-rig/C-rig) if you know what I mean?
  16. Oh boy, Getting all giddy over a reel that shimano has already discontinued! Once the NOS E's are gone? The Chronarch will set you back over $200. The down graded G series doesn't seem as smooth and feels just that "a downgrade"compared to the E(I'd grab my E series over the G any day). Personally, I'd rather vest in a company that upgrades their reels and improves the performance while its charging more for them. Old technology usually gets sold at a reduced rate, Because its just that old technology! Not one of the Daiwa, Abu, Lews new stuff is a downgrade and most are complete revamps with more options. The Daiwa Lexa's and the Abu Revo's aren't step backwards reels. I used to be in the Shimano camp, But I guess I didn't drink the cool-aide!
  17. Dedicated deep crank would steer me toward the Winch. Don't get me wrong, I love my PQ's. But chucking DT 20, DD22's or 6XD's all day long? Much less stress on me with the winch IMHO.
  18. Wouldn't a limber tip do the same? I use moderate action for all my crank rods. I'm not sure I want the reel to slip.
  19. Finally got mine and used it a few times. Solid reel and built like a tank. I am using it for medium cranks on a 7' rod. Its the combo that I'll use the most on the water. So far I like it and would compare it to the revo s. I'm a gear junky and had to have one! Seeing the "made in the USA" has some bonus points IMHO. I'll give it a work out and if it stands up? I'll have no problems adding a few more to the fleet! If it breaks, I'll post something. But I just got a feeling it aint gonna.
  20. Abu store and the new revo's. Lew's also caught my fancy as did the lexa 100. Gonna be broke for a while!
  21. Never thought I'd see a lew's with EVA grips. Sweet looking stuff!
  22. I got the same email. "Finally" we can play! Bet it cost me a fortune in upgrades!! Might need to float a lone! I have swapped handles between Daiwa and Abu, No issues. Even the nuts fit(same thread).
  23. I prefer a fast taper MH rod 1/4 to 1.0 oz. for blade baits. Sounds like your rod is close to its limit, Time to beef up the gear some. Whats the action on the rod and its weight rating?
  24. I treat buzzbaits just like spinnerbaits except I use a higher gear for buzzbaits(7's) and slow down to 6's for spinnerbaits. I like a fast tip for them. XF might be a little too stiff. Your Kinectic should do fine.
  25. I have an Exceler, Aggrest and a Prodigy. Very similar to the aird with aluminum frame and whimpy side covers. They do OK and work decent. But under torque the plastic side covers do flex a little. You could hang out for the new Lexa 100 and its aluminum side cover List is $139 and not available until September. I liked the advantage HSTA, But its limited in gear ratio to 6.3 to 1. It is also being phased out. So you could get some deals very soon! That is if you don't need a power(5's) or high speed(7's) gear ratio!
