  1. Here's the schematic. http://www.abugarcia...2005LP 1400.pdf Looks to be centrifical. I don't own one, But I guess it would be similar to other centrifical systems. The brake pads should snap up on the post they ride on. Similar to the how to video pinned at the top of this forum. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/92295-how-to-set-up-a-baitcaster/
  2. Most of the frog rods I have seen are over my price range. Some of this will be personal choice, But Try to stay with an extra fast tip with MH to heavy action. I have a 7'2" MH Shimano Clarus and its works dandy! I think I paid around $90.
  3. If your looking to save a dime on the rod end, Check out the Powell's Diesel. Good performance from a moderately priced rod. I'm also liking my Shimano Convergence. The E5 for deep cranks, The E6 is about the best all around and can be used for about anything. For bottom fishing(T-rig/jigs/C-rigs/shaky heads) go with the E7. I also like the 7's for top water and froggin.
  4. Very nice write up! Much appreciated! I own the Powell Diesel 705CB glass crankin rod and I am very pleased. Even fishing mono I feel the slightest nip on the bait. My only complaint is the reel seat feels a little cheap. But so far its been a solid performer for what I paid for it, I'm tickled pink! I'll be adding more to my rod box in the future!
  5. I want one! But at that price just can't do it!! Now why can't Shimano release a US version? It just aint fair!
  6. Goose52, Your attention to detail is over the top! Thanks for the review. With the little bit I fish, It will probably take about 5 years just to break my Pq's in.
  7. Not off, but as little as possible. Really the only time I want max distance is when crankin. I'm usually close enough to the spot and thumbin the spool before it goes past. If I can't reach, I move a bit closer with the boat.
  8. I'll add that the 2nd gen got more mags added compared to the first. OP You could try ordering the gen2 innards? I upgraded my gen1 and it did get better.
  9. I have thrown everything from DT-14's all the way down to DT-4's. I also have thrown KVD 1.0's and some bandit 100's without issues with the rod. What gave me issues was wind and over runs. More of a reel braking issue. Once the reel was tuned things were dandy. I'll try some lipless cranks next. So far I'm happy with it. Seeing I got it during one of TW 15% off sales. Very pleased for the money spent! Biggest fish caught(so far) was a 4 Lbs. LMB. and handled it just fine.
  10. FC has less memory than mono, So it could help some with over runs. It also has a smaller diameter than mono which might attest to the longer casts. Less resistence in the guides.
  11. Rods usually have 2 ratings action and power. Action is the tip rating(exfast, fast, moderate and so on) and power is what it can handle(medium, medium heavy and so on) usually it will call out the rated weigh of the lures its designed for 1/4 to 1 oz. as an example. What are the ratings for the rod you have or post the part number for us? A longer rod helps with casting longer distance. A shorter rod may have an advantage if its tight on the shore line you fish. Both will work.
  12. Your better off with a moderate action MH rod for deep cranks. Give in the tip helps keep the hooks in the fish. Fast action will work, But the moderate action is a better choice IMHO.
  13. Looks like a nice rod! Let us know how it does for you? The Abu revo S is a good reel for the current close out price. I also like the SX if you can find one. Shimano has both the citica and curado in that price range. I do prefer the dual breaking reels especially for beginners. BPS has the PQ for around $100 + shipping. Lew's has the Tournament Speed Spool for around $150. What ever you choose, You'll also need to consider gear ratio's. Slow moving bottom baits I'd go with a 7.1:1 ratio. All around(like the rod) I would go with a 6.4:1 ratio. The 6's would probably be my choice.
  14. I'm also going with the time it takes to retie on another lure. But also the rod is matched to the technique being used. I get more feel from a stiff rod with jigs and rigs. I prefer a limber rod for cranks. Then there's swimbaits, spinnerbaits, weightless worms and so on. I usually have no less than 6 rods rigged and ready for action while on the water. And depending on what lake/structure I plan on fishing. I mix and match the rods to them. I often spend more time sorting and rigging my gear than I spend on the water actually using them. There isn't enough room in my boat or in my tackle bag to haul it all , So I want to be sure I have what I need. I will also blame it on the monkey! If you can get by with 2, The more power to you. But I'm sure you'll get monkey bit someday! He'll tell you will get more feel from a extra fast action heavy powered rod while fishing heavy jigs. Just after you miss a fish on what you have now. Or when you pull the hooks from a fish while deep crankin. He'll say a Moderate action medium heavy power would have landed that fish. Its always the monkeys fault and how he whispers things in your ear after missed fish!
  15. 20% off the Rapala's! I loaded up on my DT's. Wish they had a larger selection and maybe some DT-20 metals. I did get a few of the new Ike's inks though.

  17. I have used a Abu vendetta(vtc73-6) 7' 3" moderate action for spinnerbaits in the past. It was a bit stiff for deep cranks(what I bought it for), But a bit loose for a single hook bait. Missed a mess of fish until I switched to a fast action rod. You definetly need a stiffer tip to get the hooks in them. I'm getting by with the vendetta with lipless cranks and swimbaits. Even then I wish it had a tick more tip to assist in hooksets with the swimbaits.
  18. Mostly 7'ers. One 6'9" spinnerbait and a 7'4" swimbait.
  19. The wait for the tourney continues. They just pushed it back to 7/1/12. I'm about ready to cancel and move on to something else. I really wanted to try one, But this is ridiculous!
  20. I'll let you know once I get my Edge tourney. Still BO at TW until the 19th.
  21. I've used mine for big swimbaits. Had trouble stickin em with a single hook. It did OK with the magic swimmer and its trebles. My Powell is pretty limber, So its best for mainly crankin.
  22. Good to hear they will be available before September. Just in time for my sons BD. Seems the gen2's have just about disapeared from most sites!
  23. More info is now up on Abu's site. http://www.abugarcia.com/revo
