  1. Been awhile since I’ve posted. Managed to put at Black Hills yesterday and threw a swim jig with a Fat Impact trailer and got one. Thinking things will get going with this week of warm weather.
  2. Good luck today! I'll give you three guesses where I was...LOL. That thing was a tank. Just glad someone I know was there to witness!
  3. Went to Black Hills today and caught what is easily my PB. Slowing swimming a senko with a chartreuse tail (again) and she inhaled it...I knew it was big when I set the hook, but I almost ticked on my myself when she broke the the water. I don't have a scale but easily 6-7lbs- and yes, I know that means nothing without a scale, but I'm pumped anyway!!! BraininMD- My witness is the guy who caught that tank several years ago.
  4. Made it out to Black Hills on Friday with only a half hour to fish before picking up my daughter from school. 10 minutes throwing a white fluke, nothing. Another 10 minutes throwing a white spinnerbait, nothing. The water was muddy so t-rigged a dark senko with a chartreuse tail. Bingo! 4 casts and two fish later a 15" and 17-18" chunks. Wish I had more time!!!
  5. I managed to get out at Black Hills today from 3:45 - 6:30. Caught one on a Fat Ika around 15". Switched to a weightless fluke in the last half hour and lost two. Saw a boater manage several on a white spinnerbait during my time there. Nice to get out and catch my first fish of 2016!
  6. Checked out the weather forecast this week and it looks GREAT. The warm weather should definitely stir things up a bit. I'm looking forward to getting out at Black Hills this weekend and seeing what's out there. Has anyone else been out recently?
  7. Thanks, man. Yeah, I only carry one rod and a heavy tackle bag too. The extra spool gives me a little flexibility, but a PTA if you're in a rush.
  8. Managed to get out at Black Hills on Saturday morning and arrived just before sunrise. I made a mistake that won't be repeated. I use a spinning reel and started to throw a frog, but was too lazy to switch to my extra spool with braid. Well, you can probably guess what happened next..I got a massive hit. I was able to set the hook, she surfaced on top and was easily the biggest this summer if not my PB. She buried herself in the weeds and as I was dragging her (and the weeds) the line snapped about 10-15 feet out. I guess I got what I deserved for being lazy and fishing a frog with 8lbs copolymer line in the slop. Well, I've respooled that extra spool with some PowerPro Super Sick and will be ready for them next time...
  9. Managed to get back out on Sunday morning. Managed two- one went 20" on a senko being dragged on top and another going 14-15" on a Live Target frog. It's a pretty short window with no bites once the starts shining bright.
  10. I haven't posted in a awhile, but I've been fishing Black Hills (as usual) alomst every weekend. The weeds have really grown in in the past couple of weeks. I've had alot of success throwing a weightless senko at the edge of the weed beds. If I don't get a hit at the edge, I drag it across the top of the weeds just fast enough so it won't sink and they've been smashing it. Went out Saturday morning and landed four in two hours...I don't have a scale (I know, , but all averaged 16". I may throw a frog this weekend, but don't want to deal with the lower hook-up ratio given the success I've had.
  11. Probably too late, but it's still under construction until 6/20. You have to enter via 355.
  12. I managed an outing at Black Hills on Sunday from 6 - 10:30am. Started off with a PopMax at dawn with no results so I switched over to plastic and got a number of hits, but only landed one out of three hooked. Right before leaving I decided to go back to the Popmax with all the surface activity and a nice bass just inhaled it...no big splash, just a big swirl and the PopMax was gone. The picture doesn't do it justice, but I'll estimate at 17-20" and 2.5-3lbs....compare my hand to the overall size of the fish and yes I know I need to get a scale!!!
  13. I've been out to Black Hills the past four weekends and have absolutely nothing to show for it. I threw spinnerbaits, jigs, Keitech Fat Seing Impacts, senkos and Fat Ikas. The only thing I didn't throw was a jerk bait or crank. That being said, the past two weekends it looked like the crappie fisherman were doing well. On the other hand, I got to take my five year old daughter out for sunfish last weekend and she managed to catch three all on her own (I cast it out for her)...apparently her old man could pick up a few lessons from her! I'm bank bound so access is pretty limited, but I'm pretty surprised I have nothing to show for my efforts. I'll be giving it another go this weekend...
  14. I hope so Sean. There was only one but he was pretty big. He was checking me out and grunting at me for a few minutes until he got tired and figured out I didn't know what I was doing.
  15. Went out to Black Hills this morning. Didn't catch anything, but an otter has taken up residence by the the stick ups. It's not completely thawed out yet but another week should do it.
  16. Drove to Black Hills this morning for a quick look. As expected it's totally frozen. Hopefully this week of warm weather will thaw things out. I don't know how much longer I'll be able to take it!
  17. Managed an outing today at Black Hills from 6-10:30am. Only managed two fish after switching to a wacky rigged senko, but both were decent size around 2-3 lbs.
  18. Dave, my man! How's everything going? It's been tough at BH this year, but I've managed the majority of my fish on plastics (including the one in the pic) with a couple on spinnerbaits. This long winter has screwed everything up...
  19. Here's a pic of what I caught on Friday at Black Hills. I have to get a scale...
  20. Definitely tough at Black Hills. Managed to get out Friday evening from 6:30-7:30. Managed to catch two fish with one being pretty nice at about 3 1/2 lbs. Missed two bites too. I'll try to post a pic when I get to a laptop.
  21. Managed to get out yesterday evening for about an hour (7-8pm). As everyone said, high and muddy. Caught one off a stump on a chartreuse spinnerbait with a gold and silver blade (Colorado and Indiana)- about 15" or so. Fish put up absolutely no fight. I actually thought I was dragging some sticks in until I saw the mouth on the surface. Hardly moved when I unhooked it. Put it back in the water and it jumped twice and took off...funny! Of course I lost the spinnerbait on my next cast and went home.
  22. Just wanted to check in see how the pre-spawn has been going for everyone so far. I've managed to get out three time at Black Hills over the past two weeks- got skunked twice and caught two (lost one) my first time out two weeks ago. Definitely seems a lot slower than ususal. I realize alot of it has to due to our prolonged winter, but I figured the recent warm weather would have turned the switch on. How has everyone else been doing?
  23. Went to Black Hills and managed a couple, a dink and one 15". Lost a bigger one close to shore when he threw the hook. Not bad for my first outing of the year! Going to give it another shot later this morning.
  24. Hey Brian! I'm going to try to head out at some point this weekend. The wife is working this weekend so if I can secure some babaysitting for a few hours I'll let you know. If you decide what day and time, let me know.
  25. I'm in the same boat Allen. Looking to get to Black Hills either Sat or Sun and fish from afternoon to sunset. It'll be subject to whatever's on the honey-do list. -Ken
