Flasher depth Finders
A flasher gives instant responses, a fishfinder is much slower. By the time you see it on the screen of a fishfinder the boat is long past it. If you see it on a flasher then you are on it,they are way better for finding drop-offs. A flasher is the only way to go for running at high speeds

Trig or Crig ?
I think a t-rig will catch more fish but a c-rig will catch better quality of fish.

Panting a boat
the reason it sticks better to corvettes is that a vette is a different type of fiberglass. A vette is made from SMC (sheet molded compound) and a boat is made from resin, mat and gelcoat. The auto paints dont adhere well to gelcoats, but a vette dont have a gelcoat.I own an auto body shop and we paint about 20-30 vehicles each week,we do some work on vettes and other plastic cars(saturns) and have no problems but a few years ago we tried some glass boats and had issues with each and every one, needless to say we refer the bass boat stuff to the competition ;D

night fishing in stained/muddy water
Why are you not carolina riggin? All of my fish lately have came from a carolina rig.I have been carolina riggin a finesse tube or finesse worm and both have been producing although sunday night I missed a fish on a 10 in. power worm. I didnt give her time to eat that killer worm ;D before setting the hook. The fish are not chasing much right now so in my opinion cranks, rattletraps, spinnerbaits and jerkbaits are not an option. A buzzbait in the rocks, maybe

Anyone use the Chinese rig?
I read in one of the newer Bassmaster mags. the some people are using a jig/pig as the weight for a c-rig. I can see why it would work, i'm sure i've had fish hit the weight in my rig before so the jig would kindoff solve that issue. As far as the chinese rig, I think it would work for me. I fish a lot of deep points and rockwalls so I will have to rig one up next time out.

1995 Ranger 374V ..need advice
Sounds like a good deal as long as that Johnson is not a one of the FICHTS. I have heard a lot of bad things about the early ones but i'm thinkin the first ones may have been around 96. They were having a lot of problems with the computer that runs the fuel injection on the earlier ones. If its a carburated Johnson you cant go wrong. And anyone will tell you that you cant go wrong with a Ranger either. If it is a FICHT have a dealer hook it to a scanner and he can tell you how many hours are on the motor as well as the max RPM's it has turned. also have your dealer pull up the vin# on the motor to see how much warranty work the motor has had, this is an easy way to tell if the original owner has had many problems.

mercury prop for optimax
I had a tempest on mine for a while. Is yours a tempest plus or the older tempest. The plugs can make a huge difference especially on take off. I ran mine with 2 plugs out, that was the best setup I found for my boat. When you remove the plugs it allows the prop to cavitate which gets the rpm's going to help take off but this causes more prop slip so you will loose some speed. Like your dealer said, you;ll just have to keep testing until you get a good balance of top speed and take off. Remember plugs in = speed and plugs out= take off. With that hesitation it sounds like maybe you should take a plug or 2 out.

Hello, and question.
I mostly use paca craws by netbait but any plastic will work. Depending on the bite and whether i was fishing day or night I would use anything from a lizard or a tube and on a slow day will most likely end up using a finesse worm.

Weedless Tube Advice Needed
Im very aware of how to rig a tube on a jighead, I wouldnt be on here giving advice on how to do it if I wasnt
-
Weedless Tube Advice Needed
Bend the wire up and shove it through the end of the tube(from the inside bottom to top) and then just squeeze the tube over the eyelet and bend your wire back down. I rig almost all of my tubes this way.The way nwgbassmaster will work too but it seems to make a weak spot in the tube and they will slide down more often.

Boat Rankings
I cant let this go any longer without getting my 2 cents in. I have to give the rate a Gambler at the top when it comes to speed, handling and appearance. They are fast boats, not 100 mph fast but 80 mph fast, which is gonna beat 99% of the other boats out there. They handle better than anyyhing i've driven and their finishes are the best out there. Now for my dislikes. They have small back decks, their storage is minimal and their livewells are a little on the small side. Its a tradeoff that I was willing to make because I love the speed and handling along with the fact that Gambler uses top of the line components, no cheap latches, locks or upholstery. My boat is almost 5 years old and does not have a stress crack anywhere. If you are willing to pay 45g's for a boat then give Gambler a look. If I were buying a new one today I would get the single console, my dual console takes up a lot of space, besides who cares if the passenger gets cold doing 75 down the lake at 6 am. ;D

How to read depth finder?
Minn Kota doesent make a fishfinding trolling motor, at least not yet I'm gonna run and sell them that idea. I'm guessing that you have a flasher, read it by looking at the first line(thats surface of water) and the second line will be your depth, theres a lot more to lear from a flasher but that'll get you started.

Going to the shop
Send Raul a PM, he'll let in on a few things you need.

Boat Title Question
Dont get the wrong impression, I didnt mean you were intentionally "shafting" him. I guess what I meant was that he is shafting himself by not providing the proper paperwork. I just could not understand why he felt like you should keep the motor and get your money back too. I hope you can get this all worked out for both parties sake but it sounds like its going to be a lot of hassle for you both.
-
Boat Title Question
Sounds like he's getting the shaft. You're keeping the motor just because you got it running and in you earlier post you made him give you back 50 bucks because the trolling motor didnt work? In my opinion the trailer would be worth $250, as long as the boats not stolen i'm sure the DMV will work with you.

Fishing conditions have worsened...HELP
Try a grass jig, they are heavy enough to get down there. I would also try carolina riggin a sweet beaver, use the smallie beaver if its a slow bite. I caught a few the other day (in a bigger lake) c-riggin deep points with a fat Ika. My guess is the bankrunners(small fish) are all thats going be be very shallow this time of year. I would find the deepest part of the pond and look for anything unusual that could hold fish like points, humps small cuts, or brushpiles.

Louisville Kentucky area
Our bass club is a couple hours away from you but we fish a lot of lakes your way. We fish Taylorsville, Herington, Laurel river lake,Dale Hollow and kentucky lake. We also fish a couple in the mighty Ohio river. The rest of our tourneys are most likely too far out of you're way but you're more than welcome to join us at any of them.

Hooks for drop-shot.
Use the Gama drop shot hooks---they are made specifically for this technique. When tied properly they will hang perfect.

Boat Title Question
In ohio if it was made before 1998 and is less than 15 ft. it doesent need a title. The DMV makes a registration when you buy your license thats all you need. You should be able to call you DMV and give them the vin# and file for a lost title.

Bought a new Minn Kota this weekend...got a ?

I got a free depth finder and its acting weird?
Sounds like it may be set on simulator :-/ Also the pump running in your pool may have affected it, I know if i turn the sensitivity way up on my lms 440 it will read strange things if another boat is idling by me, depending on how close the source is I'm sure soundwaves would afect it.

Stratos 285 schematics
I have found that on a boat that age it is best to completely remove all of the wires and run new wires one by ine to each accessory, maybe even consider buying a new fuse block. I ran into a similar problem once before, I had a boat that apparantly mice had gotten in the hull and just done a number on the wires. If this is the case on you boat dont bother just fixing the bad spots because they will just keep appearing in other place. On mine the mice had eaten the cover off the wires and I just kept having problems until I replaced it all new. Its not that hard or expensive and in the end you will waste more time searching down bad wires trying to fix them. I couldnt believe the damage these little critters could do to a wire!
