Quantum Energy 150 Pt Ss, Good Or Bad?
I have a chance to pick one of these reels up for cheap (90 bucks new). Its the current model in 7.3:1. Should i get it or is their another high speed real that is better for the same price? I was looking at a Revo or Shimano, but for the price thought this might be worth a look. Thanks, Chris

Braid For Flipping
If your confident in a fluoro leader with braid, then by all means use it. Thats what I use. Some use straight braid while others use straight mono/fluoro. Use what you are confident in, that is what you will fish best.

Lake Gaston
Is that what bass eat?

Soft Plastic Color
As others have said, depends on light conditions, water color, etc. The majority of my soft plastics are either green purple, or blue.

Old Faithful
Split shot with a small hook(3 or so) and either a green or brown ribbon tail worm(7.5" or so, not the mega ones). not the biggest fish, but it has caught numbers for me when nothing else would

Mojo Bass
I was told by a Dicks associate working in the fishing section that the Mojo Bass rods were the same blanks as the Premier series, with different labels. Not sure if the guides are different, i think the handles are if my memory is correct. Im considering picking up either the Mojo or the Premier myself soon.

Lake Gaston
Not sure how secret the information is, don't expect spot info or anything, but I will be fishing a tournament their in about a month. Any info, general or specific, would also be helpful.

Nothin Like That Feelin
Sometimes ill forget to change the settings when switching lures or techniques (pitching to regular casting). This results in a backlash, which will sometimes break my line in mid cast (especially if i'm using a leader and switched to a heavier lure) then I get to watch my $5 lure fly through the air a surprising distance.

What Are You Guys Fall Lures?
Jigs, black and brown. black buzz bait when appropriate. natural colored crankbaits and lipless cranks. Texas rigged ribbon tail worm, color depends on water conditions. Drop shot in deep water. larger spinnerbaits, around 1/2 oz shad colored, more or less. As always, the lure and presentation are determined by conditions and what the fish are biting for the day. Finding that out is the fun, rewarding, and sometimes frustrating part.

Fixin Up A "bass Boat".... Don't Laugh At Me....
Thanks guys. I'm saving up for a bass boat next fall(should have about 6-8k and that will get me something). I know im going to want to be on the water this summer so i think I'm going to fix it up, but conservatively as suggested. Probably just a new paint job with a floor. Tinboats.net has a lot of good ideas for cheap. Any advice on where to get a trailer for cheap? What should i expect to pay for a trailer? I'm not having any luck with craigslist or ebay.

When To Use Braid
I too use braid almost exclusively. Spinnerbaits, texas rigs, drop shot, etc... When throwing deep crank baits ill use 15-17# mono or floro just to get the extra depth. I like the added sensitivity of braid, less stretch equals more energy transfer. I just started using a leader for most of my braid applications. usually 17# mono, but ill probably switch to a floro once i find one i like. Probably isn't necessary, but it adds confidence for me, so i do it. Use whatever you have confidence in, that's what you'll fish best.

Fixin Up A "bass Boat".... Don't Laugh At Me....
Thanks for the cite link, didn't even think about that. Alot of information their. I'll be sure to check the specs for weight limits, and if it is indeed over for what I want to do then ill hold out for something more reasonable. Thanks guys.

Fixin Up A "bass Boat".... Don't Laugh At Me....
....alright, i guess you guys can laugh a little. New guy here, finally decided to put other interests aside(and money) in order to get more serious about bass fishing. Been fishing forever, but being out on a few of my buddies boats finally gave me the "itch" as they say. At the moment, I have a 12" john boat and a 61' 6hp merc that I was miraculously able to get started the other day, cranked right up after sitting for at least 20 years. Think all it needs is an impeller and im good to go(motor wise). Still need to get a trailer. So for my question, i guess I'm just looking for some advice on how to fix a john boat up into a "poor college boys" bass fishing boat? I have a 35 lb trust trolling motor and battery. Its a flat bottomed john boat(old probably 70's, rivited). Plan on giving the paint job a lift. I was thinking about cutting out the tops of the built in aluminum "seats" and rigging a new top out of plywood and carpet so I can store stuff(food, drinks, battery, life jacket, etc). This would allow me to install a swivel seat too. I'll have all the necessary lights and such, so I guess a switch board would be ideal? I know circuity well, so the actual wiring shouldn't be a problem. I guess im just kinda thinking out loud here. Im pretty handy working with wood, metal, fixing stuff, etc, so I think i can make it into something until I can save up and spend a couple of grand on a boat(hopefully within the next year). Any advice or tips are appreciated. Im sure there are some guys out their that were on a "college" budget at some time or another and came up with a solution to fish cheap. I might even get a fish finder, who knows thanks for reading and any advice, Chris P.S.- Forgot a few things. I have a boaters license and will definitely get all the necessary safety equipment(lights, etc). I also plan on fishing some of the larger lakes in the state(just a little slower then everyone else ) like Falls, Jordan, Gaston, etc

Another "new Guy"
Names Chris. I've been bass fishing seriously(as seriously as a broke college student without a boat can...) for about 3 years now. My interest in fishing has spiked recently, and I've decided to put other activities and money aside to get more serious about his hobby. I've been reading alot about the "logistics" and methods around catchin' bass lately, which lead me to this site. I'm a member of several gun forums, and that information has proved helpful, so I thought that would also apply here. Been fishing forever, but getting on a few of my buddies bass boats has given me the "itch" as they say. I can see this becoming an addiction Looking to get a boat soon(start cheap and upgrade over the next year and a half as money builds up), so ill probably be asking about that alot (ill try and avoid the "which should i buy" questions). I feel like I have a good grip on tactics and presentation and can read conditions well, but their is always more to learn. I look forward to learning here and hopefully giving some information back when i can. Thanks Chris
