  1. Jeff, I normally put a finger on the line when I'm fishing with a spinning rod. I think it helps me detect those subtle bites finesse fishing. I however never use a finger with jigs. I use braid and have never noticed any problems detecting bites with it. I am a pretty good line watcher tho. Btw...nice fish!!!!! Carlton
  2. No matter how many questions one asks or how much advice one gets, bass fishing is still a LONG personal journey and still a whole lot of fun!!!
  3. Only ones that need to worry whether I fish or not...are the fish!
  4. Welcome neighbor! You have come to the right place!
  5. Small jigs (1/8-1/4oz) and 6-8" worms t-rigged or shaky should get those bass to bite. If there are too many big bluegill in the pond it might be keeping the bass population down or preventing them from getting bigger (more competition for food). If thats the case the some might need to be harvested. Im no expert...jus my .02. Good luck!
  6. Well I spent Saturday and Sunday out at Glenn Springs. What a beautiful weekend to be on the water . water temps were 63-64. Never saw anything resembling beds so don't think any spawning going on yet, however most were caught in 2-6 fow in the timber field on SW end of the lake. Fishing was a little slow. Got 4 decent ones sat (biggest was 4.56) and 3 dinks sunday. All were taken on spinnerbaits. Couldn't buy a bite on anything else Regardless of the bite, it was a great time on the water! Already have plans to head back there this Sunday (weather permitting).
  7. Yes it does. I fish jigs ALOT with braid mainline and 20lb fluoro leader and have NEVER had a bass break me off. If I get hung up and cant retrieve my jig then I want my leader to break off. I would think the knot would be a weaker link than the leader and as already said, I have never had a problem.( I use a uni-uni for line to leader).
  8. If I dont see visible cover I drag a texas rigged worm or jig across the area. Its slow to do but it will tell you everything on the bottom. once you know where the cover is you can focus on targeting it. Good luck!
  9. Strike King Super Finesse worm. I thank Jeff everytime I fish with them cuz the action on them is awesome!! Thanks Jeff! Hahaha!
  10. Great articles J.F.! Wonderful story about your friend! I work at a children's cancer hospital and being there has definitley taught me to treat every moment with friends and family like it's my last. It's easy to take for granted the time we have with each other until it's gone.
  11. Where are you fishing at Grove? All mine have come from the wooded area on the far side of the pond. Put a finesse worm on a 1/8 or 1/4 oz (depending on wind) shakey head and work it like you were teasing a cat with yarn. I have done pretty well with that setup out there. I dont catch a bunch of numbers there but the ones I do get are quality. I'm headed out to Glenn Springs this weekend. I"ll give a report when I return (hopefully a good one! )
  12. I'll definitely be throwin lizzards! One of my favorite for spawn. Lipless cranks have been productive for me as well. Spinnerbaits have been good lately. Im sure I'll hit a few ponds but my boat is all good now so imma be hitting a few lakes now! Gotta take advantage of these 80 degree days in March!
  13. I'm in Memphis. Welcome and enjoy the site! Its awesome!!
  14. Dont know that its better. Just what i use. Its a double surgeons knot using 2 lines. Cut 18-24" leader and lay it next to main line with about 12" hanging below. Tie the 2 lines in a double surgeons knot and cut the top tag end. This will leave you a short tag and a longer tag. Hope this helps!
  15. How NOT to buy everything in the tackle shop!
  16. Stopped by there today myself. Picked up a 6'6"M Carbonlite spinning. I have 2 Carbonlite baitcasters already (7' MH & 7'MM) and just like em.
  17. Thanks guys! They sound like they are exactly what I'm looking for. I been thinking for a while "I wish they made a Senko fluke!" Hahahaha! I will be ordering some today. Thanks again for all the replies! Carlton
  18. Anyone on here ever use Gary Yamamoto's D Shad? . I love using Slug-go's and Super Flukes for twitching along the top but I've been looking for a soft fluke style jerkbait that will stay down in the water column without adding weight to it. The D Shad sounds to me like it is basically a Senko shaped like a shad. Do they have about the same sink rate as a Senko? Thanks in advance!
  19. Well said RW! Betty was quickly returned safely back to her home as are all of the fish I catch. I always have and always will practice catch & release. I am like you in that I share my honey holes with others because the people I fish with MUST practice C&R and be good stewards of our natural resources. I really appreciate the information about the Germantown City Park ponds as it is always fun to fish new waters. You have my word that the people that fish with me will take very good care of what we fish! Carlton
  20. No luck for me in collierville today. Didn't stay much longer after Jeff left. I problaby will be heading to Grove Park tomorrow if I cant find the right connector for my trailer lights in the morning Im sooooo ready to get the boat on the water!!

  23. Yea Jeff that stuff is NASTY!!! Normally the cold water kills most of it off but this warm winter has made it worse! So did ya catch anything?
