  1. Exactly what I was thinking....... Our river here is undergoing the change now. Water temp is 57 degrees and the fish are in the process of migrating to their wintering holes. The key is to cover a whole bunch of water and try to intercept schools of migrating fish. Where you find them depends on water flow, clarity, bait presence. Yesterday I fished a club tournament on this river, 4 fish limit with 15 inch minimum this time of year. I had not prefished at all but looked at the condition of the river and headed to a spot...Had a limit by 9AM that weighed 12.44 lbs. Found the fish on the fringe of a wintering area and still quite shallow. I covered a bunch of water with a craw colored crank and a tube and would catch fish in bunches, then nothing for certain streches.
  2. With the technology in sonar/gps units these days your kinda throwing your money away if you don't get a combo unit. So, to echo what has already been said, definately get a sonar/gps. I use a Lowrance 522 and it has been really good for me.
  3. Wouldn't a simple solution be to change the size of the internal head? A heavier head would keep the bait closer to the bottom thus being more horizontal and bouncing along. I most often use 8 lb flouro when on Erie. I do agree that sometimes the fish get picky, one day they may want the bait right on the bottom, other days they like it ripped off the bottom forcefully. IMHO it's easier to change the head size rather than line size to acheive the desired rate of fall or lack thereof.
  4. fishn hard, yes that is Mike Pierro. Thanks guys.....
  5. Day 1 and overall big bass.
  6. Well, some of you guys know I was recently at the TBF Mid-Atlantic Divisional Championship fishing for team Pennsylvania. Event was held on the Monongahela river in Morgantown West Virginia Sept 23-25. It was the first divisional team I qualified for, what an awesome experience........ I headed down in mid August for a little practice and looking around. I did put a few fish in the boat and generally got a good idea what to expect. At that time the water was stained and had some current. I returned on Sept 19 for practice to find the water nearly gin clear and no current, except when the locks pulled water. Fishing was brutally tough. Bait was suspended out in the middle of the river and I believe alot of the bass were also. With no warning and with no consistency you'd see fish busting bait on the surface but by the time you got there they were down and gone. We had basically 4 pools to fish, all in WV water. Pennsylvania was put off limits . I was a rider for this event but did take my boat to practice and in case our team had a boat break down. I practiced alone for 2 days and with other team members for 2 days. I and other team guys primarily fished weeds but so did alot of other anglers making for often crowded conditions. There are not that many really good areas of weeds. Even the weed bite lacked consistency. In the end, team WV finished 1st, we were 2nd, Virginia 3rd. Individually, the top 2 anglers from each state move on to the National Federation Championship........I missed that by 4 ounces. All I needed to do was catch one fish the final day......and I never had a bite. Our guys going are really great and 18 year old Matt Hartman is someone you guys and gals need to watch out for. May I add, all you anglers out there that are interested in tournament fishing need to join a TBF club and get at it. This was an awesome experience, I can't imagine what the National is like. Look at the PA standings, the top 3 were all riders, you don't need a boat to get going. Ok, highlights.......I caught big bass on day 1, weighed 5 pounds exactly. It was caught at about 10:00 AM and last bite for that day. That was like having a 5 fish limit on that river. You should have seen the look on my and my boaters face when that thing came up through the weeds. I think we both said "Oh MY God" about 25 times during the fight and after it was boated. Only caught 2 fish the second day. Me and my boater pulled into a weed patch at 2 PM with weigh in at 3:40PM for us. We had NO fish at that point. In an hour he boated 3 and I boated 2. Talk about last minute, geez. Day 3 I blanked. I can't even remember getting what might have been a keeper bass bite. Our team was GREAT. We all talked, shared info, ate together, laughed together, and just generally had a good time. Mike Sabbi our team Captain worked his behind off for a year getting us shirts and other things. The shirts he had done came out AWESOME. I met some really good guys from other states and the host state. The WV president worked his tail off to make this a good event for everyone. The TBF reps and volunteers worked their tails off to make this a great event. Hats off to WV and the other states. I hope to one day make another divisional team! Pics follow. I'm the guy with white sleeves, wear 'em to keep the sun off! For more coverage check out www.bassfederation.com
  7. Man, that's horrible! Looks like the tow boat just about had the burning vessel in the clear only to become a victim itself. The tow boat operator(s) and they guys in the small rowboat (looks as if they attempted to tow also) are heros in my eyes, it could have been far worse. So sorry to hear a person lost their life. Prayers to familes of the involved people.
  8. Back in mid August I purchased a 7' Carbon Steel spinning rod from one of Kistler's retailers. To my suprise, the rod broke about 7 inches down from the tip when I was fighting it's first fish, a 15 inch smallmouth in a river and in current. I own 14 Kistler rods, have never had one of them break. I e-mailed Kistler that night. The next day I received a phone call from Ryan at Kistler. I had my new rod in 3 days. Just a quick kudos to Kistler!
  9. Are you guys sure about the 4.3L V8? I was thinking that the 4.3 is a V6......I owned a Blazer and a small GMC pickup that both had the 4.3 V6. All 3 of my Silverados have had the 5.3 V8. The smallest V8 I can find listed is a 4.8L. Link to a chart......... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Silverado Anyway, I'm on my 3rd Sliverado, currently have a 2004. Have owned a 2001 and 2003. All have been reliable. One of my best friends owns a Chevy dealership, he kept me bouncing around in trucks for awhile cause of better interest rates. I'm at like 2.9% now and will keep this truck till paid off (less than 2 years). I've bought all mine used with less than 20,000 on them BTW.
  10. What type of e-mail was it delivered in? Why is it called Police virus? I got a bunch of e-mails at my work address today that I didn't recognize, I deleted them all without opening them, just curious if one of them was an e-mail with the virus.
  11. Didn't realize that, thanks....
  12. I recently made a post in the Northeast section concerning an open bass tournament our F.O.P. lodge is hosting. The thread and replies are gone...can't find them, don't even appear in my last messges posted. Was there something wrong with that thread and it was deleted by a mod or is there another reason, computer glitch? I haven't received any messages concering it so I'm guessing it's a glitch or something?
  13. I work shifts......It is sometimes very difficult to get to sleep at a different time than you are used to. I feel you pain. Try this.......a few days in advance of your tourney, get up earlier than necessary. Go to bed earlier than usual. Try to get into a rythm a few days before the night you have to sleep before the tourney. Also, I've found that being prepared is necessary. Get all your tackle, boat, etc...squared away early. That way your not lying there trying to sleep wondering if you forgot anything or worrying about getting up early to do that. Lastly, try not to think about the fishing......I know that's tough. Take your mind off of it by doing something NOT fishing related. Everyone's different but that's what works for me.
  14. The best carry gun is the one that is actually carried........ That being said, I agree with the poster whom suggested taking your wife to the gun shop (and range if possible) and seeing what gun she can effectively shoot and carry. With todays vast choice of calibers and ammo choices you can certainly find a combo in a small frame auto or revolver that will do it's job. Regarding the post about the drop gun..... :-X
  15. I think BP was the 10th? It would be nice to have the additional 500K paid up front but having it paid at 50K for 10 years isn't a bad yearly payday either
  16. The anglers who made the top 10 cut for the final 2 days all ran Rangers. I believe they are required to do so per FLW rules. It's similar to what B.A.S.S. did with Triton a coule years ago. If the anglers weren't using a Ranger (or sponsored by Ranger) they were supplied one for the 2 days. Ike (Basscat), Hackney(Triton), Nixon(Stratos), all have boat deals with other companies so they were given Rangers to use.
  17. I know that pic from Fisherie, troutabout, LOL I'm ready2fish over there Oh yea, back to the topic, pabassin, pm sent, give me a call!
  18. In order for the contingency money to be awarded the winning angler must be signed up in the Ranger Cup and meet all the requirements of that program. It goes a little beyond just fishing out of a Ranger so Hackney being comp'd one wouldn't matter. I agree with FBL, probably due to Hackneys current sponsorship, he didn't run a Ranger except when the FLW told him he had to. If IKE would have won he would have been in the same situation.
  19. Bass-Brat, he means fishing, the US Open fishing tournament. The US Open Golf event has already been played.
  20. I would think that if there was still good grass in 12' then thats where the bass probably went to being that shallower areas lack cover. Least that's where I'd be fishing
  21. LOL, and why I stayed out. I have fished the 3 rivers, it's an animal all it's own.
  22. Maybe try a lighter head. Ususally the key to fising tubes with an exposed hook is selecting the right weight to match the current. Too little weight will cause you to loose bottom contact, too heavy will cause you to snag. Another option would be to try fishing the tube texas rigged, again selecting the proper weight.
  23. High, brown, water here also. Just last night I caught 6 on a chatterbait fished with a medium speed retrieve. Have been getting fish on a 1/2 oz spinnerbait w/ tandem gold blades. Black neon tube has caught a few. Manns Baby 1 minus in craw pattern also been working. I think the wide wobble is it's key in dirty water.
