  1. The finish was the same as what? the gen 2's?
  2. Ok, so I called about when they are getting their first shipment and it won't be until end of Aug! I'm not good at waiting.....
  3. Ya I was wondering how they got them first, but those guys are legit. I have ordered from them before and they have great customer service. Plus they are one of the few online tackle retailers that are not located in California so it saves me paying sales tax.
  4. Well check out the new revos, THUT has them available now and they look nice. Way lighter than Gen 2. They really fixed the boring/tired look of the STX, now it actually looks like a $200 reel. Anyways I just pulled the trigger on a gen 3 STX. I'll let you know what I think when I get it.
  5. Looks cool. Do you strip the old paint off first? What kind of paint did you use? I have thought about doing this to some older reels but never knew where to start.
  6. I would guess some type of shiner as well. They swim in huge schools. Bring some bread next time you go and chum the water. You should be able to get a better look at them.
  7. I use a Spinning set up for senkos. I'm either using powerpro braid 20lb test or a decent 6-10 test mono.
  8. I actually still have my first, a Quantum 1310 Mg. Must have been early 90's, pretty cool little reel.
  9. Ya you need some craw colors in your arsenal. Try to find out what the bass are eating where you fish. We have a lot of Golden Shiners here in Nor Cal so a lot of my baits are Gold/black/silver.
  10. Ya this is a "play it by ear" situation for me. As I have gotten older I defenetely tend to leave the spawning bass alone and let them do their thing. If I see a large female say 6+ I'll try for it and if I get her I let her go after a quick photo. I dont mess around with 1-3 pound males protecting their nests. I'd rather throw swimbaits and spinners for those females as they roam around for nests than to sit there for 30 minutes trying to tick her off enough to get bit. Some guys are all about sight fishing which is cool but I hate seeing people take large females from nests before they lay their eggs. Really I always hate seeing large females taken.... I know that if you catch a male he is more than likely to go back to his nest to gaurd it. I have seen this happen many times. As for females, if you let them go they can continue to spawn but it depends greatly from fish to fish. Some bass are stressed out more after a catch and wont try again, others will continue a few hours later......
  11. A lot of people have been buying those off buy.com and amazon for really cheap. I have only tried them in the store and have been very impressed with them but havent pulled the trigger on one yet. They are very light, and the new designed handle is VERY comfortable in my opinion.
  12. This is the first time I have ordered from GM. I'll let you know when i get my stuff!
  13. I had to get a few packs of Trokar hooks. Good deal with free shipping and no sales tax (to CA).
  14. Hmmm, I can't believe I didn't think about that. I'm more of a braid guy and have braid on my other reels. The one giving me problems has sufix seige on it. That must be what it is, I guess I am just used to casting braid???
  15. Fish Chris I am up near sac and probably fish some similar water. What do you think this weather is going to do to the bass. I just started catching some decent females in pretty shallow water before this storm came in. Even though it's been raining, it's been pretty warm which I would think is a good thing.
  16. Ok I don't want to hijack your thread but maybe we have similar problems. I have four 51's. Two curado and two chronarch. I have 2 pins pulled out on all of them except one of my curados that seems to be really fussy casting anything under 1/2 oz or so. At times I have all pins pulled, that's the only way I can get it from not birds nesting. It's only about 6 months old and acted that way out of the box. What do you guys think is going on? What can I try to do to fix it?
  17. Let us know what you think. Compared to your Shimanos I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
  18. I fish for fun not for food. I would never keep a bass even if I gut hook it. If I can't bring the hook through I cut the line and let it go. I have a really nice set of pliers and wire cuters in the boat so I almost never have to cut the line.
  19. I have both the Chronarch and STX and really like them both. The STX looks and feels like a "better" made product. Less plastic than the E series, but because of that it weighs more and it is a noticeable difference. Both reels can cast a mile when set up right. Between the two the STX is noticeably smoother while reeling. I would recommend the STX because you said you want to try something different. The Chronarch is the same as your Curado, just with a different handle and paint job. Then again, if you lobe your Curado you know you'll love the Chronarch, lol.
  20. Shimano doesnt have a Chronarch G yet. The new modles are the Chronarch E and Curado G. Looking at the Curado E and the Chronarch E, It doesnt matter which one you get, you wont be able to tell a difference. I originally thought my Chronarchs had less back play in the handles than my Curados, but now I am not so sure. Basically it comes down to which one you think looks cooler and how much the $30 difference matters to you. At those prices I would buy both :-)
  21. I've used an SX for cranking and lipless and it worked great. Make sure you mail in your $30 rebate form. The rod I am using now for lipless crankbaits is a 6'9" MH Kistler Micro Magnesium. It has the back bone to get the baits through the weeds and the tip is soft enough to not rip the bait from the fishes mouth. You could also use the rod for deep diving crankbaits if you needed too or jerkbaits. It's a good all purpose rod if you dont want to buy 6 different rods for specific applications. Tackle warehouse has some kistlers on sale right now.
  22. All the abus run stiff, including the new Villains. Great worm rods but I wouldnt fish a jerk or crankbait with them.
  23. A good way to compare sensitivity is hold one rod in your left hand and one in your right. Close your eyes and gently scrape the rod tips on the ceiling. Since BPS ceilings tend to be 100 feet tall you can do it on the ground, try to find some carpet so you don't damage their rods, lol. If one is more sensitive than the other you can tell for sure. If you cant tell doing that test you cant tell on the water either.
  24. I have the 683 Dobyns champ and it is super lite. I would not recommend it if you are throwing the senkos in cover or fishing them weedless. I feel like it has too soft of a tip. If your just fishing the senkos wacky rigged it will work great, otherwise get the 704.
