  1. I have a Humminbird max 170, it was cheap and gets the job done. It shows me the bottom and underwater structure which is what I wanted it for. I dont always trust it when it shows me fish.....I used a through Hull install using a well that I add water to.
  2. I had a few Mojo bass rods and have fished my buddies Duckett Micro a few times. the Ducketts are nicer rods but they also cost more. The 6'6" model has a short handle which I like, but some people don't. The duckett also felt lighter and better balanced. If you want the better between the 2 buy the Duckett. If you want to save some money, buy the Mojo, either way you will be happy, both rods catch fish, lol.
  3. The longest rod I have is 7 feet. It seemed like when I started fishing in the 90's it was either 6' or 6'6" max. I am so used to the smaller rods that anything over 7 foot seems huge. I just bought a few G Loomis classic rods that are 6' on sale for $70... I also cant stand the long handles, guess I am stuck in my old ways.
  4. I live close enough that I should have fished it by now but havent. I have heard good things about it. It is definetely on my list of places to bring the kayak to this year.
  5. Wow, that is the funniest thing i have ever seen. There is this huge male swan at a lake I always fish that scares the crap out of me. He could destroy me in my yak if he wanted too and gets a little too close. I'm going to start packing my buck knife... just incase
  6. Are you up in sac also? I noticed yesterday they got some decent stuff in. Also looks like they are going to start carrying senkos instead of flash.
  7. I fish from a kayak mostly so windy days are like my arch enemy. I end up fighting myself, the kayak, and my line all day....
  8. If you want to stay in the city you should just fish the bay. Can't think of any good bass lakes that you wouldn't have to drive a while to.
  9. I ship rods with usps a lot. Usually the rod and cardbboard tube weigh between 2-3 lbs so cost is about $12-$13 to ship to the lower 48 states. That does not count insurance. I learned the hard way that it's a good idea to pay for the insurance with rods.
  10. Oh I read that wrong, I thought it was the spinning model. I've bought a few broken quantum energy pti's for really cheap online. Everytime it was the anti reverse that was broken and it's only a $12 part.
  11. let me guess... the Anti reverse wasn't working?
  12. I love my SX, got one for Christmas and its one of my go to reels. Feels better made and much smoother than a Curado. I have heard a lot of people talking about it being difficult to cast w/o backlashes but I was sailing baits with that thing straight out of the box. Great reel, and that was a smoking deal.
  13. I picked up 50 packs of un open yamamoto senkos for $87 plus shipping by searching "sinkos". My high bid was $150 but no one was bidding on them.
  14. It's a great reel. I just recently got a curado and while it's nice, the TE will be used much more.
  15. I have had a smoke pti (spinning) for about 6 months and have used it pretty hard with no problems. I have had problems with Energy PTis in the past. The anti-reverse goes out and is a very common problem. It happened on 2 of the 3 energys I had. It's actually a very easy and cheap fix, had my local tackle guy replace it for $20, but it still sucks. I am really happy with the Smoke, my biggest issue with the Energys was weight. I also may be picking up some PTs soon.
  16. Like the others have stated the Abu line of rods run very stiff. I was going to get a verdict because I like to fish with short handles but the Medium power was wayyyy to stiff for cranking. The only rod that is soft enough was the Vengeance which was the cheapest model in the line up. Not as sensitive as the others but has the right action.
  17. I used to totally over estimate the size of fish when I was younger. then I got a digital scale... All those 5-7 pound bass I had caught were like 3-5, lol.
  18. For you Dobyns guys or those who want to try them, Dobyns Champion rods are on sale at SW for $160-$170 plus an additional $20 off at checkout using BNG4BUC promo code. I live near one so I am doing local pickup for free shipping, really good deal. I have one and love it so I picked up another. Sportsman warehouse
  19. The trash fish really does look good. I will probably pick up some of those and a few other brands. Thanks for all the good input guys.
  20. You can do a Medium Heavy rod, 6'6 or 7'. It would be good for plastic worms, top water, and jigs. The rig you have now is probably better for crankbaits and spinners. We really need to know how much you want to spend to get specific.
  21. I caught some decent bass on the Basstrix 5" paddle tail this year but haven't tried too many other brands. What do you guys use in the 4-6 inch range? How do they compare to the Basstrix? I mostly fish them weedless but this spring I will try with a jig head or swimbait head because there will be less vegitation.
  22. I went ahead and ordered the 51e. I have always used Daiwas for baitcasting and quantums for spinning so this should be interesting. Had some bad experience with Shimano back in the day but i am ready to give them another chance.
  23. I can get a 51 (I'm a lefty) for $119 plus tax. Seems like a really good deal.
  24. I was going to use it for plastics, mostly weightless stick baits and flukes. Should I go with the 50? Thanks for the quick answers so far. Dan
