  1. Actually the new Metanium has extra white brake blocks that are thinner (you can see the difference in this picture), lighter, and provide less friction and braking force. If you swap out all the red ones for the white ones then you will see a noticeable gain in casting distance, but the spool also becomes less friendly. So if you have a new Metanium and want more distance try switching brake blocks. A few people actually mix the reds and whites together.
  2. It should throw slightly under 1/4 oz a good distance. I've tried to throw 4.5 grams with it, the distance and accuracy was pretty bad.
  3. Then you are better off with the new Curado I. It crushes my Tatula R in distance.
  4. I think they are just trying to get rid of existing stock of a rod that was discontinued over a year ago.
  5. Duckett rods don't have any special proprietary blanks that he designed or created, so basically you have quite a lot of different brands of rods that are going to be very similar in performance, components and price. So people are usually going to buy what they think looks best.
  6. Thanks for the info dude.. I had a first gen Vendetta, its a good workhorse rod. Ill be hitting up Wal Mart tomorrow and check it out.
  7. Whoa.. awesome reels and pics.. I hear those things are beasts!
  8. The only bad thing about palming the Tatula is the mag dial rubbing the skin off my finger after fishing it for awhile. That's something you wont find out just holding it in the store. The Gen 2 Revos are actually wider.
  9. My Curado casts 2 miles lol
  10. Yeah I was just seeing how low it could go. It could work in a pinch for short casts.
  11. This weekend I threw a keitech with a jig head that weighed 4.5 grams total on the Curado I. Accuracy was awful unless you took long deliberate sidearm swings. Even then it only went about 20ft tops. This was on 10lb test with a medium action rod rated down to 1\4. With lighter line and a BFS rod could it do better? Maybe but I don't predict by much. The spool weighs 16.4 grams so its not exactly made for finesse.
  12. The biggest improvement is not X ship, its the SVS Infinity braking system. I have both and its head and shoulders above the Tatula in casting distance, and palming(at least for me). I don't think its going to match the Tatula as far as the total amount of drag though. Things I like better about the Tatula, its much quieter, the dragstar is much bigger, and the external brake knob is easier to adjust.
  13. I think the problem is you went from a compact and dense lead weight to something that is far less aerodynamic and dense. Example, I can throw a 3/8 oz casting plug very far with only 1 brake on with my Curado 50 with no thumbing and not backlash. But if I did that with a 3/8 oz crank bait or spinnerbait I backlash like crazy, so I have to add another brake. Try to go up to the next level on your brakes.
  14. Yeah people are horrible at guessing distances, myself included. So I test my reels with a line counter. While frogs can be heavy, they aren't very dense, so in my experience they cast good, not great vs say a lipless crank.
  15. The report is that the lefties are stuck in customs, or at least a good portion of them.
  16. I never had a Chronarch/Curado E but I did have a Citica E. The new Curado far outcasts it. Compares favorably in distance to my best distance reels (Metanium XG and Exsence DC) Beats my Tatula R, Curado 50, Scorpion DC, and Revo Elite IB(with the dual brakes) by a good margin. This is stock out of the box with a ton of grease on the bearings. With aftermarket bearings and a tune it should be unreal And I don't have to be as careful with it because its only $180 lol.
  17. I spent a lot too.. Metanium XG, Exsence DC, ABU Morrum ZX, Revo LTZ, Tatula R, and got my Curado I today. Shimano Expride is the only major rod purchase. Oh and a ton of JDM lures. Thank god I'm single with no kids lol.
  18. Thanks... The new Curado cast a lot better than it looks!
  19. Possibly but I haven't flushed the bearings on the Curado either, I got it an hour ago, spooled it up and started casting.
  20. Nope, I may attempt it in the future but I've read its not quite so easy like a Shimano. You have to open the handle side plate right?
  21. Not to thread jack but I just got mine and did some casting tests and this thing eats the Tatula Rs lunch and I'm not talking a couple of feet, I'm talking 20+ feet.
  22. Does it come with spare lighter brake blocks?
  23. Whoa it looks like its almost 50 sized :-)
