Aluminum Vs Fiberglass And A Few Other Questions
Maybe you guys dont want to bite on all of the questions so i'll narrow it down a little. Does anyone know of a website that i could figure out when various boat models quit using wood in their fiberglass boats? I'm scared of buying a boat with wood floors or wood transom as I know sooner or later it is going to rot, I'd rather avoid that problem.

Aluminum Vs Fiberglass And A Few Other Questions
WIthin the next year i hope to be buying a new boat, I'll be upgrading from a 1973 16' fiberglass bass boat. What i want to upgrade to is a bass boat 16-18' with more storage. currently i have no storage in my boat. I would love to be able to lock my tackle and rods in my boat and not worry about the weather affecting them. my budget will be somewhere around $5000, but my goal is to buy a boat that will last the rest of my life. If i have to spend a little more to get that it will be worth it rather than buying another boat in 10 years. first question is aluminum or fiberglass? I will either be buying an older nice boat or a newer cheaper boat. Would you guys stay away from anything in particular? it will be freshwater only, and mainly smaller lakes (less than 10,000 acres) but i would like to be able to take it to table rock and lake of ozarks without being scared of getting swamped by the big waves. Is my thinking right, in that modern fiberglass boat will essentially last forever since they are made with no wood? when did they start using only fiberglass vs a wood transom? I know i have been told to check the transom on older boats because they can rot. Is there a certain year that manufacturers stopped using wood and therefore i wouldn't have to worry about the transom being rotted? I dont want to buy an old fiberglass boat that has wood to rot, as my current 1973 has a weak floor in spots, and the transom is just starting to give me hints of getting weaker. I want something i can have forever without falling apart or rotting. obviously unnecesary damage such as hitting rocks or trees may happen, but i dont want a boat that will naturally rot or become brittle with time.

Wheres The Contest/giveaway Section?
Just curious why this forum doesn't have a contest or giveaway thread? Most of the other forums i follow have this section and give away sponsor products, or Forum gear. Anything from $10 worth of baits, to a sticker of the forum. entry methods are anything from simply making a post in a thread, to picture contests, to making comments on forum videos or articles. Just a thought i had. It should add members, and participation.

Bass Pro Credit Card
Should have clarified, when i said I will be paying on time I meant I will be paying the balance in full on time. therefore the balance at the end of each billing cycle would be $0.00. I'm tight with my money, so I refuse to spend my money on interest, and definetly wont be spending money i don't have, just to spend more money in interest. I am a student until may then I will have my bachelors degree And looking for a job in this wonderful economy.

Bass Pro Credit Card
Thanks for the advice so far. I didn't realize you gained credit by not paying the balance at the end of the month. I thought if you payed off the balance each month that would be best? in any case I will be paying off the balance before the interest starts charging. I believe the bass pro card has a 25 day grace period before the interest starts. My plan was to only use the card for what i would use cash/debit for. Then at the end of the month just pay the credit card bill with a check out of the same account that i would normally be using with my debit card. So basically the credit card will be just like cash, as i will never use it to spend more than i normally would, and the bill will be payed almost instantly rather than in a month or two after interest charges have been charged.

Bass Pro Credit Card
I'm signing up for my first credit card at 23 years old. So far i have no credit at all. I have tried signing up for cabelas, but they declined me due to no credit. surprisingly Bass pro accepted me. I just have a few questions so i don't make any bad mistakes. Does the APR % matter as long as i pay my bill on time? I'm pretty sure it only matters when a payment is late. And they state there is no annual fee (seems like every card advertises this) Are there any fee's if i don't use the card for a month or two? I'm not planning on using it a lot. and definetly only using it for what i can pay off as soon as the bill comes.there will be several months when I dont have extra cash to spend on my hobbies, so i wont use the card at all. here is a link to the page for the card, so you can read the rates and rules etc. https://www.applyonlinenow.com/USCCapp/Ctl/entry?sc=VABL95#b as far as i know, i should be ok as long as i pay the bill on time, and i can use the card as much or little as i want with no penalty? the rewards points dont seem to be too great, but i figure without the card ill be using my debit card and getting nothing, so I might as well make a few dollars towards tackle purchases by just spending my normal everyday budget.

Feeling The Fish Before The Bite
Im watching major league fishing, and there has been a few times that they feel that there is a fish there, then wait 2-5 seconds before setting the hook and catching the fish. Im not real experienced at bass fishing, so explain to me how they are feeling the fish then waiting several seconds before setting the hook. Is the bass carrying the bait before they decide to set the hook?

Which Old Baitcaster Is Worth Buying?
Im trying to search for an old used baitcaster on the auction website. Im really just looking for a really good deal on an older model reel, since i don't fish very often, and don't fish in tournaments so quality isn't that big of an issue. The searching would be much easier if i knew which reel models were worth looking at. I know some of them are worthless and aren't even a good deal if they go for $5. I prefer Quantum as that is what my other two reels are. Shimano would be fine too. Or any others that just stand out as good old reels. My price range is $50 and under, the lower the better. I plan on making a list of good old model reels and just searching for the next couple months until i find one that doesn't get many bids. Its easy to open a bass pro magazine and figure out which new models are nice, and which ones aren't, but when it comes to the 10 year old reels it takes forever to individually search each model trying to determine if its a good reel.

What Do You Guys Think About A Raffle?
Had an idea, thought i would see your guys thoughts. What if i sold raffle tickets in the classifieds section for like a dollar per ticket. the random winner gets a nice reel, rod, high end bait, etc etc Would this catch on at all? you guys would benefit by having the chance at a high end item for just a dollar. I would benefit by possibly making money, but may not make my money back so it would be a gamble for me I could set the end date in the beginning so i wouldn't just wait until i made my money, I may lose, i may make money. would there be any interest in this? or would people be too scared it would be a hoax? I think it would be fun. I would buy a raffle ticket if someone did it, of course i wouldnt buy one from my own "auction" as it wouldnt be fair. I guess the most important part of this is, is it against any rules on here? It would probably be necesary to bump the thread to the top a few times over the duration so that everyone could have a chance of buying a ticket. This may get annoying to some people?

Respooling After Winter?
I have 10-12 pound fluoro carbon on one of my baitcasters and i only used it 3-5 trips last fall. It has been sitting indoors all winter. When i let some line off the reel the line stays in loops, from the spool of the baicaster. Will this "memory" go away after a few casts come spring time? Should i go ahead and respool to be ready for the season? or will the memory go away with some line conditioner, and casting a few times?

What Lure Is This?
Thats a valid point that i hadn't considered. I knew it looked like it may have had a bill, but couldn't see how a diving bill would work. The only problem i see with a jitterbug lip would be that there are no screw holes or anything indicating it used to have a lip. The jitterbugs lips were screwed on. also the line tie would probably be on the lip not the bait. maybe the company used the same body for two baits, one with a lip one without?

What Lure Is This?
Anyone else have any ideas? I have been scouring the internet, it's starting to bug me. At first it wasnt a big deal if i found out or not, but not its becoming a challenge.

What Lure Is This?
Here is a better picture showing the flat nose. Also just behind the head, you can easily see where the bait is joined, where they have melted two sections together during manufacturing. This makes me think it is a cheaper bait, but i could definetly be wrong about that.

What Lure Is This?
although it is very close to a zara II i dont think it is one. seems that the zara II doesnt have such a straight "chin" rather more of a torpedo shape. also I didn't see any Zara II with the line tie straight out of the tip of the nose. Thanks for the idea though. I'm thinking maybe its a newer version of the zara II that i found pictures of. Or maybe a knock off of the zara II?

What Lure Is This?

Tell Me About The Bassmaster Classic
The classic is within a 5 hour drive from me, so it crossed my mind to take the trip. But to be honest i don't exactly know what goes on aside from watching the weigh in. I'm not real big on meeting and getting autographs so that doesn't give me incentive to go. What other opportunities are there? I know there is the expo, but is it much different than a local Sports and boat show? Im just curious what all there is to do and if it would be worth the drive?

Buying Photo Finished Lure?
Why does no one sell photo finished lures on ebay? Or am i just missing them on there? It seems like it would be a good way to make some money...? Are they sold anywhere else? Im not looking to buy any yet, as I am going to try to make a few, just thought it was surprising that people weren't selling them like crazy on ebay.

'that Guy' Article....couldn't Have Said It Better!!!
agree here, as long as its the skill of the driver that is holding up the line. we all had to learn, but if it is him unstrapping his boat, putting stuff in the boat, etc then there is no excuse. the boat should be ready to go in the water when it is backed down the ramp. for some reason people around here think its ok to park on the ramp (most of the time down the middle of a two lane) and take their sweet time getting the boat ready.

Offer On My Boat. What Would You Do?
thanks for the opinions guys. im tending to lean towards, if he wants it bad enough to pay a high price for it, then he must want it for a good reason and its his business how much he wants to spend. as long as i dont lie about anything, i will sleep just fine at night. actually better because ill be tired from running a new boat all day ha ha lets say i do sell it. for lets say 2500-3000 would that be enough to upgrade what i did have. id want atleast 16 foot preferably 17 foot, bass boat, fiberglass, 85 or bigger engine, with all the basics needed to fish with. and newer than 1985 or so i have seen a few meeeting this criteria on craigslist, but not sure if i want to risk it. would you guys be confident in selling something you know works to try and buy a little bit better boat, that may have unseen problems when buying.

Offer On My Boat. What Would You Do?
I have a 1973 strahm bass boat, that i got for free from family. and i have fixed it up over the past couple years.which includes a brand new paint job last winter it is 16 foot fiberglass, only 4.5 foot wide. just added a back deck with livewell, but i used too thin of plywood so it is warping some on the compartment lids. has new carpet.new mk460D ($460) battery charger, 3 batteries. 200 dollar depth finder. 85 horse mercury that runs good. with power tilt/trim. has newer 24volt trolling motor. On craigslist in my area similiar boats are listed for $1000-1500 someone has been asking me through a friend how much i want for my boat even though its not for sale. last month i told him it isnt worth much and i wouldnt be able to replace it with anything so its not for sale. this month he asked my friend again how much i want for it. my friend told him my price wouldnt be low enough for him as i would want to replace it with something better, so i probably wouldnt go lower than 3-4 K ( i know its not worth this but thats how much i would need to upgrade) but yet he still wants to know how much ill take what would you guys do? ask for a high price (3800) so that either he wont buy it, or i would have enough to buy a better boat? or be happy with my boat as i know all the things wrong/right with it, whereas buying a used boat i wouldnt know all the wrongs about it. and 3800 really doesnt give me much of a budget to buy a nice bass boat (especially sine it would be more like 3000 since that would be my lowest price) sorry for the long read just trying to get some opinions.

Vicious Floro
just bought some vicious fluoro in 10 pound, mainly for leader material on my spinning rod that is spooled with braid. im considering putting it on my baitcaster as main line. im currently using 14 pound stren original on my baitcaster, and have no problems with it. but am wanting to respool before my tournament this weekend. what would you guys do? go with the trusted stren, or try out the vicous?

Crawfish Colored Crank Baits
I have always wondered, why use a crawfish colored crankbait, if it is going to be swam through deep water? i can see using them when the crankbait will be hammered into the bottom, but if you are swimming a crank through the water, over tree tops, or anywhere besides hitting bottom, why pick a crawfish color? i know sometimes fish will eat anything that catches their eye, but why throw an unnatural lure, vs a shad or bluegill colored crank. or is the crawfish crank only used when bottom contact is maintained?
