  1. i was just reading about this. this is supposedly why he has his own colors of the dt series. he made them softer colors,.... ill let you read the rest, its in the description of the baits, on the websites that sell them.
  2. i think im going to go opposite of this. put the go to baits, in the box so they can be on quick draw mode. put the extra baits, in a bag, for the times i want to dig them out and try them. when im in the back of the boat, tournament fishing, ill just bring the confidence baits, that are in the box, so i dont have any extra clutter.
  3. Is there a reason people dont like to store their soft plastics, in say a plano tray? it seems everyone wants to keep their soft plastics in the bag they come in but why? it seems much easier to find the bait/color i want if they are in a tray. rather than sifting through each bag, whether they be in a binder, or ziplock bag or whatever. what are the downfalls to storing in plastic trays, aside from them reacting in the tray, as most brand name trays will not do this anymore, atleast thats the impression im under from their advertising.
  4. If you can only pre fish a few days before a tournament, how do you guys do it? I heard its better to go figure out what color and what structure the fish are on, but when they bite dont hook them, just let them let it go and move on. that way you know there are fish there, and they will still bite the same lure on tournament day. any one else do this?
  5. didnt realize i had hopped over to my fullsize chevy forum. but since we are on the topic. you guys should really look into custom tunes, if you want real results, they cost less, they are custom made for your driving style, and work much better than any programmer that can be bought. this info is regarding gas engines, diesel engines are another story, and i dont know much about them, except for store bought programmers will have amazing results. gas engines however never have amazing results with a store bought programmer
  6. Well i caught a crawfish yesterday, while collecting specimens for my invertebrate zoology class. and while holding it in my hand, it postures up with its claws up in the air. kinda hard to explain, but hopefully you guys get it. my thought is, when the craw is on the bottom of the lake, and a fish noses down to it, it is going to have this same reaction (or just flee) Im just surprised there isnt a rubber bait, that holds this posture, also more dense because when i dropped the craw into my tank it held the same posture and fell very slowly. I would think a company would have a dense plastic craw in this position, maybe they already do and i just dont know about it? I realize this is pretty complicated and regular plastic craws work just fine, im just surprised a company hasnt done this to "catch" the fishermen yet.
  7. my state has a three hook limit. do you guys think i would be better off with a regular 5 armed model and put two blades with no hooks on it, or just get the tripod and have three hooked baits. the 5 arm would look more like a school of fish, but would i have a hard time hooking fish because of the two baits without hooks?
  8. I am curious how many of you wear a jersey when you fish local tournaments, and what your reason for wearing it is. (you get paid to, you represent a local business, just for fun, etc etc whatever your reason may be) i can understand if you get paid to wear it, but im more curious why people wear them if they are not being paid. no disrespect meant, just curious who wears them, why they wear them, where they buy them etc etc
  9. seems like during the show they try to keep the camera off of the lure being used, gets aggravating, i would really like to know what they are using, guess i will have to get on the internet and look it up while watching it. i do like the show a lot though, its the only show i look forward to watching every week
  10. i have such a large assortment of cranks, and have never had one that doesnt run correct yet. even my cotton cordell 2 dolllar crank baits run perfect and have been catching fish left and right. i see where luckycraft or other expensive baits are better, but honeslty i see absolutely nothing wrong with cheap baits. im sure over time my cheap ones will wear out and lucky crafts will still be going, but until that day gets here, ill fish my cheap hand me down lures.
  11. do you think thats the only reason it is spinnning, that the hook is too small and light?
  12. My line is 20 pound braid, tied straight to the hook with a palomar knot. using 3/0 EWG hook. no weight, also had it tied with a small bullet weight with same results swimbait is a 4" reaction strike fathead jr. all on a spinning reel, shimano sahara 2500 FD the problem is, it spins in circles. tight circles not wobble, just perfect spin like a blade on a spinnerbait. i know the hook is kinda small for it, but it is all i had. Do i need to have the weighted hooks? the package does say it can be rigged weightless these baits look really good to me, but not if i cant get them to swim instead of spin.
  13. well tried the senko idea tonight, couldnt get it to work. mostly because after fishing a crankbait for an hour, i cant slow myself down to fish it properly. i tried a spinnerbait over the top of it and didnt get bit either. however i moved off the main point back into the cove a little and caught around 10 on a white spinnerbait, reeling it over the filamentous algae that was in the cove. i was surprised, my friend tried a pop r and didnt get a bite. but my spinnerbait was getting hit right as it hit the water, if not; i was reeling it very close to the top and getting bit
  14. had pretty good luck fishing the other day. I was using a shallow crank running on top of the weeds, they are what i call coontail, an invasive species of plant. what ways can i fish this weedline? it was working pretty good getting the crank right on top of the grass, but i was constantly pulling weeds off. when i used a shallower crank they didnt seem to bite, i think it needed to be tight with the cover. what lures/ presentation would you use to fish the weed line? its about 15-20 foot wide, in 10 foot of water going up to shallow. they also seem to be on the deeper end of the weeds
  15. thanks for all the tips guys. I will defiantly try moving deeper, and using bigger, slower baits. As for the questions, I am boat fishing, i do have a decent depth finder. the lake is Mozingo in maryville MO It is 1000 acres, has a creek channel running from the north end to the south end. so it is man made.
  16. once again i should have added more info. I was fishing main lake points, mainly. tried further back in main coves and didnt get anything. i was fishing about 15 foot from shore and they were all biting either right on top of the grass (coon tail, and just algae) or right outside of it. should i tie on a deeper diving crank and fish further from shore? the crank i was using dove around 6 foot, and once i got into deeper water well outside of the weedline i wasnt cathcing anything, would it be better to use a deeper crank out far from the weed line?
  17. should have put more info, Im fishing in a local lake, 1000 acres, it is known for good sized bass and i have caught a few over the years around 3-6 pounds. but here lately i have been catching tons of 6 inchers. I was using a jointed cotton cordell crankbait, pretty slender bait. so maybe i could go up in size some. I do believe the lake is overpopulated as there are signs stating to please harvast bass under 12 inches. but i know there are large bass in the lake. the local tournament states on their website in order to have a chance at placing in the top ten the limit must be atleast 17 pounds, and atleast 23 pounds to win any money. 23 pounds for five fish is pretty healthy to me.
  18. I went out last saturday, and today. today after a cold front so it was a little slower but still got some fish. I am catching numerous 4-6 inch bass, and not catching any or only 1-2 bass over 15 inches. is there anything you guys try to change to catch the bigger bass. im sure there are some bigger bass in with these smaller bass. will a bigger bait help? deeper? anything? or is it just how fishing goes and there is nothing to do about it? I know theres no sure fire way to switch from catching small ones to big ones, but i thought maybe you guys had some input that could help me out.
  19. after reading the title i was expecting a thread about the person quiting crappy fishing (crappie) and joining the bass forum and bass fishing. guess i was wrong. I have similiar views to the original poster, i keep a few fish every now and then, and i dont care what anyone on here says about it as it is legal. I also dont think you need 1000's of dollars worth of equipment to catch fish, but it sure would be nice to have it. I am here for the good advice that is given out, the good articles, videos, gear reviews, classified, etc etc etc etc this is a very useful forum, but as with anything on the internet you have to weed through the not so useful info (like this thread)
  20. Coming from someone who has fished ponds all his life, but never big lakes. I am always wondering if i am doing something right or completely wrong, and we all know there are days you could be doing everything right and the fish just arent cooperating. well i come here for info so i know if i should spend hours doing something and its just the fish not cooperating, or am i doing something foolish and never going to catch a fish this way. no one wants to spend a whole day fishing without catching anything, i like to know i am atleast close to doing something right, as for gear reviews, it is much cheaper than buying everything that looks "cool" or "needed"
  21. it looks like there is around 50 baits there, if you only spent 50 dollars on them you could easily double or triple your money. you cant buy a used, new, or antique lure for less than 2 dollars on ebay. not to mention some have got to be worth 5-10 dollars a piece. sell them and make 2-3 times your money back, or keep them and just admire them. search google for tackle collecting forums, i followed one for awhile but slowly got out of that hobby. the forums will help you a lot in how to determine prices, condition, if they are real or not, etc etc.
  22. well went last night from 8-1045 threw everything at them besides jigs, and soft plastics. tried casting to shore, casting deeper, trolling in all depths and couldnt catch anything. Maybe im too late to catch them spawning, i didnt have my depth finder so i dont know the temp of the water.
  23. same thing for me too. Kinda small but ill make them work
  24. thanks for the tips guys. is it necessary to use a steel leader? i have some but didnt know if it was really necessary or not.
  25. Never caught a walleye before but i hope to this weekend, the Lake is Called Mozingo, its in Northern missouri, the walleye are stocked in the lake. the lake is long, narrow old creek channel down the middle. its about 1000 acres of water I know the walleye are spawning in the large rip rap along the dam. what i dont really know is what to use to fish for them. or how deep or technique will just about any crank bait work? do i want to knock the bait into the rocks? im sure depth will just depend on the fish, and ill probably start at the shore and work my way deep. but do i want to contact the rocks the whole time? reel steady or jerk?
