Water In Lower Unit
sounds like i will just keep running as usual, aside from changing the oil more often. its not worth spending 500 on a early 80's motor that is on a early 70's boat. it will cost much more to replace the boat and engine, but at the same point i could never get over a grand or so for the boat.

Water In Lower Unit
so will the crack be visible on the outside? i was thinking the internals would be damaged, but now that i think about it it would make more sense for the housing itself to be cracked. I didnt notice any fluid leaking, but it sits outside, so it is a little hard to tell. also since my motor is so old, and kinda rare i doubt any marina's around me will have the parts. and i will be putting them in myself, cant stand paying someone so much just to do mechanic work. there are parts of outboards that take special skill to work on, but most of it is just basic mechanic skills.

Water In Lower Unit
Well i made a very bad discovery today. I put off changing the lube in my lower unit until today, It has already been well below freezing here in northern missouri. today it got to upper 40's so i went out, pulled the plug on the lower unit and the first thing that came out was straight water, id say an ounce or so. what is the likelyhood that something was damaged? is there any way to know without running the engine? i spun the prop with no problems or noises, then put it in gear and the prop acts as normal (cant spin in) also what seals need to be changed so that water will not get into the lower unit? it is a late 70's or early 80's mercury 85 hp

What All Is Needed/ Which Brands To Buy
well i was going to stop by rogers first, but plans changed. only made it to cabelas, i bought VMC hooks, as the gamakatsu (spelling?) were very pricey, and i thought i recalled hearing that VMC was a pretty good bang for the buck. I got the Fast grip wide gap worm hooks, in 3/0 and 2/0 I also got, bullet weights stuck with the lead, got cabelas brand 1/8 ounce and 1/16 ounce got a terminator tiny t buzz bait as for the other things on the list, they will have to come either from rogers, or ebay. usually rogers will have some good deals from time to time, and i know ebay is much cheaper than cabelas.

What All Is Needed/ Which Brands To Buy
Im going to make a trip to bps tomorow, and would like to stock up on the essentials. I am not a beginner fisherman, but i am a beginner "serious bass fisher" what i have now is 7- wiggle warts 4 deep diving cranks 3 topwater (chugger type) 2 Rat l traps a few jointed rapala's about 6 bags of 6-8" worms 2 bags of crawfish 4 bags of various tubes 2 bags of trailers 2 spinner baits 2 bags of senkos 2 bags of creatures 2 bags of lizards basically no weights, or hooks What would you guys recommend me to stock up on? hooks? style? size? weights type size any more lures? i know i need some jigs but dont know much about them, size style brand etc any essential types of soft baits i need? floating worms? other types? any other essential lures? I realize i have a pretty good basic start up kit, but i know there is some gaps in my tackle that need to be filled, im not so much concerned about having 100 of each thing, but have some of everything that is "essential to bass fishing"

Advice For Line
when i say memory, im refering to the line having coils in it when i let line out. i would take a picture but i have no clue where the cord is for my camera. when i flip the bail on the spinning reel, the line sometimes "pops" off in coils, if it doesnt pop off, it will still have tight (size of the reels spool) coils maybe this isnt "memory" maybe im using the wrong term, but either way it cant be normal. as for the bait caster, it tends to have the same coils in the line when i let line out. I have spooled my crappie rods with vicious panfish, and really loved it, the line came straight off of it, and never had a problem with the coils. im convinced for the spinning reels the line is just too big, but what about the bait caster?

Advice For Line
Odd, i got an email stating that someone (deep) posted on this thread, but i dont see his post on here. he asked what kind of mono i am using as i shouldnt be having problems with it having memory. the line is 12 pound trilene big game on all of my poles a larger cardinal spinning reel a bps qualifier spinning reel two baitcasters both old quantum. have memory problems on all of them for the spinning reels im thinking the line is just too heavy (even though the cardinal says it can hold 120 yards of 12 pound test) but even too heavy for the baitcaster?

Advice For Line
Im starting to second guess my decision, after reading a few basic articles on line, i am concurring that fluro carbon tends to have a lot more memory than mono, and if i am already having trouble with my mono having memory, why would i go with something that makes it worse? im considering going all braid, but i really dont like the idea of tieing a leader on Is there a high quality mono that has no issues with memory? it seems i have tried stren, and several trilenes, but have never had any that didnt have memory to it.

Advice For Line
Thanks for the replies, I think ill go with yo zuri ultra soft on the spinning reels in either 6 or 8# ill leave mono on 1 baitcaster as both are already spooled with it, and they have little to no use so ill use it again this year. for the other baitcaster ill either go braid or sunline sniper.

Advice For Line
I have been reading on the forum a lot in the past few weeks, and am finally deciding i cant find exactly what i want to know from searching. I will be fishing for largemouth, in small to large lakes, not many rocky points, lots of trees. I have decided to have a 4 rod setup 1 med heavy bait caster quantum bass pro tourny 1 med bait caster older quantum on a st croix 1 med spinning bps qualifier and possibly 1 med heavy spinning, soon to buy probably a sahara reason for the two spinning rods is i am not used to a bait caster yet my questions are, what line should i put on these rigs? my favorite fishing by far is carolina rig, texas rig, and other soft bait presentations, followed by spinner bait, jig, and some crankbaits i know a lot of this is opinion, but i feel like there is a pretty common opinion on this forum, and it will greatly help me if i have an idea of where to start. I have had problems in the past with mono and having too much memory (i spooled it correctly and soaked it in water, but that only helped for a short time) I usually go with stren, or trilene, Maybe i need to go with a better brand? if i do switch to braid i do not want to have to tie a leader on, just seems like a lot of work to me to tie it on, then when it gets short from either breaking, or tieing new lures on, ill just have to tie another one on. If it absolutely must be done ill do it, but i prefer to keep things simple. sorry for such a general question, but it seems no matter how much searching i do i cant find exactly what i am looking for.
