  1. Hey guys, i'm here in illinois on a fishing trip on a friends farm pond. Specifications: 5-10" deep, stained water (heavily), bass, grass carp, and ( supposedly) channel cats, and slightly overstocked. Any tips?
  2. Today's releases are tomorrow's trophys. So graphite or fiberglass replicas are the way to go.
  3. I've hear that bacon works but am not sure.
  4. Where can I get that vast understanding?
  5. I learned how to fish a year ago and am kinda' wondering if I should compete in a tournament just yet. What does it take to win?
  6. Why is it that my topwaters only seem to work in lower light periods and in the shallows? I fish a farm pond that is 12' deep max.
  7. Cotton Cordell poppers in late evening and Zoom 4" mini lizards watermelon flavor( Texas-rigged) are the way to go.
  8. Hey, I just did some research on carp and found out that that carp you caught is a mirror carp. Leather carp don't have any scales and grass carp don't have barbels on there mouths.
  9. It all depends an the three magic words in realty: location, location, location. Are you miles from home( or your truck) or are you fishing your neighbors pond ( I do that).
  10. Just to clarify things, I live in the country, my neighbor is nice and doesn't run people of with a gun( at least not as long as I've known him). But I set my own sort of slot limit; I tell myself that I can only keep 1-2 lb bass. It saves the larger fish and the many smaller ones too.
  11. Is there a brand name that is good for a beginner to use?
  12. If I were you,( which I am not) I would watch the bank. It can give you a good idea of what is underwater closer to shore. The steeper the bank, the steeper and possibly deeper water. And visa versa.
  13. I fish a small pond in my neighbor's property. Besides him and me, there are very few who know about it. The fish population is great, and every once and a while I will take a bass home to eat. But, if some how everyone in the area found out that there are a lot of nice fish in there, and I saw that the population was hurting; I would practice catch and release and encourage every angler who fished there to do so also. Hope this helps.
  14. $177 is a good price. Thanks!
  15. What do you mean by " if my rod can handle it."?
  16. I caught a largemouth bass a couple days ago and it had yellow eyes. I don't know why though. It was kinda cool looking. I kinda wish I had yellow eyes.
  17. But, is cheap always good quality? I accept your point, there are good shotguns with low prices out there. Does wal*mart carry The maverick 88? Thanks.
  18. One more thing, I noticed that there are several types of lines for fly fishing. What do y'all think would be a good basic choice? Thank you all very much.
  19. Ok, this is looking a little more expensive than it seemed earlier. If there is a fly fishing shop in my area, will they carry the flies if I don't want to tie them my self? Many thanks.
  20. He said something compact and with a power of 3x.
  21. I've never really bothered to take up fly fishing... until yesterday! I found a perfectly-good fly rod and reel in my neighbor's garbage. Now, how do I use it?
  22. I was talking to my neighbor a couple weeks ago and he said that a good tool for fishing is a pair of binoculars. Why?
  23. Roughly, what does 20 equal in mono?
  24. I've got 50#. But I was thinking of like a 10#.
  25. Should I use a type of super line?
