Learn to ID trash v. lures that previous fishermen have dropped. Most of my tackle is other people's leftovers and I do fine.

Rattle-traps are mainly deep water baits so I don't usually use em cause spring is when the spawn is. But in the summer they're good. Silver on clear days and gold on cloudy days.

In Tennessee and Illinois a Texas rigged 4" soft plastic Zoom lizard (watermelon red kind or pumpkinseed) with a 1/8 to a 1/16 oz bullet sinker. Do NOT peg the sinker! By pegging the sinker you weaken the line. This bait is good in most situations with moderate to great success. Also a 1/16 or 1/8 oz rooster tail inline spinner.

30-30 is a good brush gun. 30-06 is a good all around gun but the 7mm Remington magnum is a deity to behold.
